Mosque attack kills 20 in Pakistan

From The Telegraph. Ramadan Day 11
Up to 20 people were killed and 30 wounded during an attack on a mosque by suspected militants in the northern Pakistani city of Peshawar.

Witnesses said that suspected militants surrounded the crowded mosque and opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing into the mountainous region of Dir near the Afghan border.
Police said the Sunni mosque was full of people offering special Ramadan prayers when the attackers struck.
"People were offering prayers inside the mosque when unidentified people threw several grenades, causing bloodshed and mayhem," police officer Naveed Khan said. Local district official Mahmood Khan said three grenades were lobbed into the mosque which hit the last two rows of the congregation.

He said children were among those killed, adding: "an emergency has been declared in the hospital to treat the wounded."
Another security official, who was not named, said the attack did not appear to be sectarian. "It is a blatant act of terrorism," he said.
The district borders the Bajaur and Swat districts where Pakistani troops are heavily engaged in a crackdown on Al-Qaeda and Taliban-linked militants.
Mr Khan said no one had claimed responsibility for the attack yet but last month a meeting of elders in the area had issued a strongly-worded statement against the Taliban and had vowed to act against them entering the area.

Colorado meatpacking plant lays off 100 Muslim workers

From The Los Angeles Times – this story has developed since earlier in the week.
GREELEY, COLO. -- A meatpacking company Wednesday laid off about 100 Muslim immigrant workers who walked off the job last week in protest of the firm's refusal to give them time to pray during the holy month of Ramadan.
When Ramadan began Sept. 1, workers said supervisors informally gave them time to break their daylong fast at sundown. But non-Muslim employees protested, and on Friday, JBS Swift & Co. officials refused to give workers break time to pray and eat.
About 400 workers left the company's meatpacking plant, which dominates this city of 90,000. By Tuesday, 250 had not returned, and Swift warned that those who didn't come back faced immediate termination.
"This action is a direct violation of our collective bargaining agreement," Swift said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.
Greeley police were called as angry workers who had arrived for the 3:15 p.m. shift were given their layoff notices.
The Muslim workers, mainly Somali immigrants, have recently flocked to the plant, replacing many of the 262 workers, mostly Latinos, who were detained as illegal immigrants following a federal raid in late 2006. Many of the Muslim employees who walked off their jobs last week had been in Greeley only a few months.
One of them, 35-year-old Iman Ibrahim, left Boston for Greeley this summer because a friend told him about jobs at the meatpacking plant. Ibrahim said Swift supervisors had shut off water fountains Friday evening to prevent Muslim workers from having their traditional drink to break the fast, and in one case a supervisor grabbed an employee by the neck, yanking him from his prayers. "If I'd known there was a problem with prayer, I would have never come here," Ibrahim said.#Nonetheless, he had returned to work by Wednesday and said supervisors were informally giving time for the requisite sundown prayer. "I like working," he said. "We like to live in this country. We didn't come to cause trouble."
Some other Swift workers, however, were angered by the Muslims' requests for extra prayer time. "Somalis are running our plant," worker Brianna Castillo told the Greeley Tribune. "They are telling us what to do."  Non-Muslim workers complained they had to do additional work when Muslims went to pray, which devout followers do five times a day.
Aziz Dhies, a local nurse who represented Somali workers in negotiations with Swift, said he believed workers of all creeds should share in the breaks.
He added that Muslims had no choice in the matter. "This is not something we're making up ourselves," Dhies said. "This is something written in [holy] books that we have to do."

Not Asking Permission

New Duranty: WASHINGTON — President Bush secretly approved orders in July that for the first time allow American Special Operations forces to carry out ground assaults inside Pakistan without the prior approval of the Pakistani government, according to senior American officials.

The classified orders signal a watershed for the Bush administration after nearly seven years of trying to work with Pakistan to combat the Taliban and Al Qaeda, and after months of high-level stalemate about how to challenge the militants’ increasingly secure base in Pakistan’s tribal areas.

American officials say that they will notify Pakistan when they conduct limited ground attacks like the Special Operations raid last Wednesday in a Pakistani village near the Afghanistan border, but that they will not ask for its permission.

“The situation in the tribal areas is not tolerable,” said a senior American official who, like others interviewed for this article, spoke on condition of anonymity because of the delicate nature of the missions. “We have to be more assertive. Orders have been issued.”...

White Muslims May Spearhead Next Attack

From The Telegraph (with thanks to Alan):

As Barack Obama and John McCain head to New York's Ground Zero seven years after 19 Middle-Eastern hijackers brought devastation to the US mainland, counter-terrorism experts believe that any future attack will be made by terrorists with an "American face".

They point to reports of white faces in terrorism training camps in Pakistan - the so-called "white men of Waziristan", a reference to the remote tribal area where both al-Qaeda and the Taliban have bases.

Experts believe that dozens of westerners have undergone such training as their leaders try to recruit non-Middle Eastern Asians, particularly ethnic Caucasians, who are less likely to attract the attention of security and law enforcement agencies.

Al-Qaeda's recent decision to put out videos in English and a similar change on extremist "jihadi" websites have also been cited of evidence of a new strategy to find recruits who are less likely to attract the attention of security and law enforcement agencies.

Such concerns were sharpened last week after the arrest of three Germans over an alleged plot to destroy a club used by US servicemen.

Two of the three were white, ethnic Germans and all had allegedly been trained in camps in Waziristan.

"There is no bigger worry for the US counter-terrorism community than young Caucasian men who have turned to al-Qaeda," Roger Cressey, a former National Security Council official in the Clinton and Bush administrations, told the US news network MSNBC.

Terrorism experts say such a threat has been known about even before the arrest of Richard Reid, the British shoe bomber. However, it was not until three weeks ago that a US official explicitly admitted that the government knew of such people being trained in significant numbers...

Notice the word "Muslim" is nowhere to be found in this article.

Lawyer at centre of Scotland Yard race war is convicted conman with suspect legal qualifications

The aroma of halibut is wafting further down Victoria Street.
Scotland Yard is embroiled in a damaging race war which has left its leadership in meltdown.
Today, in an extraordinary and disturbing twist, the Daily Mail can reveal that the flamboyant lawyer at the centre of the campaign which is tearing Scotland Yard apart is a convicted conman with suspect legal qualifications.
Dr Shahrokh Mireskandari - who acts for Mr Ghaffur, Miss Rehman and also represents Commander Ali Dizaei who has been a repeated thorn in the side of his employers - has a criminal conviction for fraud and obtained his law degree from a discredited 'mail drop' university in Hawaii.
In addition, we can reveal that he is currently at the centre of a worldwide inquiry into his past by the UK solicitors' watchdog.
Last night Mireskandari - who has publicly vowed to destroy Sir Ian's 'golden circle' of white officers - refused to comment when confronted with questions about his past, including a series of allegations which will send shock waves through the legal establishment.
Mireskandari:
Is being investigated by the Solicitors' Regulation Authority after doubts were raised over his legal qualifications.
Was convicted of a telemarketing fraud in California in 1991. He was given three years' probation, sentenced to three months on a 'criminal justice work release programme', forced to live a halfway hostel with fellow convicts and ordered to pay back nearly $7,000 to his known victims.
Acquired his American legal degree from a tinpot 'university' run from a small office in Hawaii, which was shut down over fears it was peddling bogus qualifications.
Is the subject of a number of complaints from former clients who claim he charges vastly inflated fees.
In the latest race claim against the Yard, Yasmin Rehman is being backed by the National Black Police Association, for whom Mireskandari is the official solicitor on 'employment matters'.
'Masterminding' is how many describe the lawyer's powerful influence.
He has boasted that his team is 'running rings' around the Met and its aim is to 'destroy the Commissioner and his golden circle'.
These comments backfired spectacularly this week when Blair effectively suspended Ghaffur for the 'media campaign' run by his advisers.
Meanwhile the lawyer is pursuing his own £10million action against the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the profession's watchdog, which he accuses of having racially harassed and defamed him. The Guardian has the details here.
Both the Met and SRA are mighty institutions. But Mireskandari also has powerful associates, many involved in the race relations industry.
He is a also a confidant of the Labour chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, the Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, who has described Mireskandari as 'one of the best lawyers in the world'. (Second only to K. Vaz in his estimation)
Indeed, at the Palace of Westminster Vaz recently presented his friend with the 'Asian Solicitor of the Year' award. The MP and his family are frequent VIP guests of the solicitor.

Bush's Ramadan Message Edited

Presidential Message, Ramadan 2008

White House News

I send greetings to Muslims observing Ramadan in America and around the globe.

The holy month of Ramadan is a special time of prayer, fasting, and service. For Muslims, these days commemorate the revelation of God's word to the prophet Muhammad in the form of the Qur'an.

I thank the men and women of the Muslim community for their contributions to America. Your love of family, and gratitude to God have strengthened the moral fabric of our country. Our Nation is stronger and more hopeful because of the generosity, talents, and compassion of our Muslim citizens.

Laura and I send our best wishes. Ramadan Mubarak.

GEORGE W. BUSH
___________________________________

I could write an Errata Sheet to this little missive. But the best Errata Sheet would require the entire thing to be eliminated, for this practice of Ramadan well-wishing, a recent one, instituted I think by Bush himself after the 9/11/2001 attacks, in response to them, was a bad idea.

For example, that phrase "Our Nation is stronger and more hopeful because of the generosity, talents, and compassion of our Muslim citizens" gives a false impression, is false, is dangerous. If Muslims demonstrate "compassion" to anyone other than fellow Muslims, that is not because of Islam, but depsite it. If Muslims show generosity to anyone other than fellow Muslims, that is not because of Islam, but despite it. If Muslims show "talents" that is, so often, only because outside of Dar al-Islam they are allowed to exist in a society not suffused with the habit of mental submission, nor with severe constraints on free and skeptical inquiry, nor on means of artistic expression, a world in which, for example, Muslim females can do things that would be impossibly difficult, or impossible, in an Islam-suffused state, and that too is because this country is not Muslim.

He, Bush, and the team of speechwriters that work on this kind of thing for days at a time -- god, official Washington is full of such tedious mediocrities, who get in the way, just as they do in academic life -- could at the very least have excised that last, mendacious and dangerous, paragraph.

Now it reads:

I send greetings to Muslims observing Ramadan in America and around the globe.

The holy month of Ramadan is a special time of prayer, fasting, and service. For Muslims, these days commemorate the revelation of God's word to the prophet Muhammad in the form of the Qur'an.

Laura and I send our best wishes. Ramadan Mubarak.

GEORGE W. BUSH

That's enough. That's more than enough.

Dear Leader

I'd already thought of that one, as had Regular Reader Reactionry, who knows his 3 R's from his elbow.

Perhaps the Dear Leader has Huntington's Korea.

No posting for the next couple of days. Inhuman deadlines mean I must keep my nose to the grindstone for my "real" job. In fact I must avoid looking at NER altogether, lest I am tempted to hiss or hoot at something on there.

Gradgrind would be proud of me. This grindstone is a millstone round my neck. Incidentally, a grindstone may or may not be the same thing as a millstone:

The two terms were sometimes interchanged but the distinction between the two was made at least as early as 1400, when this line was printed in Turnament Totenham:

"Ther was gryndulstones in gravy, And mylstones in mawmany."

The language there is difficult to interpret but it certainly shows the grindstones and millstones as being distinct from each other. if the derivation was from milling we would expect the phrase to be 'nose to the millstone'.

And if we did that, how would we keep our heads above water? Right, I must stop posting about the grindstone and start sniffing it. I won't even come up for air.

Obama: A Halter With Little To Halt

"On Monday in Michigan, Obama became exercised when talking about the need to give even suspected terrorists legal rights.

“We may think this is Mohammed the terrorist,’’ he said at a campaign rally, but “it might be Mohammed the cab driver. You might think it’s Barack the bomb thrower. But it might be Barack the guy running for president.’’

Continuing, he got more heated, his voice booming. Referring to the Constitution, he said: “Don’t mock the Constitution! Don’t make fun of it! Don’t suggest that it’s un-American to abide by what the founding fathers set up! It’s worked pretty well for 200 years!!’’

He finished with a sigh: 'These people.'"
            --  Andrew Malcolm

Of course "Mohammed the terrorist" might not be the same as "Mohammed the cab driver" -- though he might, come to think of it. But "Mohammed the terrorist" might be offered financial, political, and moral support by "Mohammed the cab driver." There is no one way to participate in Jihad. You do not have to participate in violent acts yourslf. You can support those who do. And clearly, a great many Muslims are doing exactly that -- supporting those who participate in violent Jihad, by defending and protecting and making excuses for them, by giving them financial or moral support, by showing up in courtrooms or to picket trials, and to help use the liberties, the ones that our Constitution guarantees and of which Barack Obama claims he is so fond, to undo, in the end, those very guarantees of those individual rights and to put, in their place, something modelled on the Shari'a, or the Shari'a itself.

And, of course, "Mohammad the terrorist" or "Barack the Bomber" are not the only people to worry about it. Such a list overlooks so many others. "Mohammad" the campaigner for Da'wa, "Mohammad" the builder of mosques and madrasas, "Fahd" the Saudi who spends tens of billions on propaganda for Saudi Arabia (and, by the way, to prevent any intelligent energy policy from being put in place), and obviously for the Islam on which Saudi Arabia rests, and "Fuad" who smilingly defends the Egyptian government from its failure to protect the Copts from inhuman mistreatment, or "Nuri" -- a recent arrival, an apparent "refugee" though it is entirely unclear exactly what he is a refugee from, as either a Sunni Muslim or a Shi'a Muslim for whom vast swathes of Iraq are open and welcoming (or is just that he'd like to be in America, and we are ready to accommodate his desires?), and "Mahnaz" the very sweet and plausible Pakistani lady who comes to your children's elementary school, with a pretty prayer rug, and pictures of families (family values!) sitting down to their Iftar dinnners in Pakistan, in Indonesia, in Syria, in Morocco -- see children: Islam is so diverse! Islam is so unmonolithic!), and passes around pictures of mosques in Islamabad, and Jakarta, and Istanbul, and Jerusalem and Rome and London and Washington (diverse! unmonolithic!). But neither the delighted children, who get to touch the prayer rug, and after they have listened, in rapt attention, to hear a tape of a muezzin calling the Faithful to prayer (a sound that Barack Obama said he found so hauntingly beautiful, but non-Muslims awakened by such a sound at an ungodly hour may beg to differ), if the teacher permits ("may I" asks the Pakistani lady, sweetly, as she has been carefully instructed), the kids even get to lisp the shehada, and then to go home, proud and excited about the day, and that nice lady with the prayer-rug and the postcards, and their first memorable encounter (with all kinds of possible after-effects, later on, when that first, deeply memorable impression has been so sweetly innocuous, and they at the time so very young and impressionable).

No, there's much more to the Jihad than the caricature provided --- about "Mohammad the Terrorist" and "Barack the Bomber" -- by that man who knows so little of Islam, that is so little of what is in the Qur'an, the Hadith, the Sira, but dangerously thinks he knows all kinds of things about it, because he too, from the ages of 6 to 10, was just like those impressionable children, but with just a little more southern exposure to it, but hardly enough, it is clear, to give him the sense that perhaps there was something there he needed to find out more about, and had he found out more, and based his opposition to the war in Iraq on the only grounds that make sense - that is, the grounds presented by me here, as to why the only "victory" in Iraq that makes sense -- an end-result that leads to a weakening of the Camp of Islam -- can be achieved not through Americans staying, but by means of Americans withdrawing. That, which is an argument that cannot be refuted so is simply ignored by the Bush loyalists, is one that Barack Obama cannot make because he, you see, cannot bring himself to talk about, or even recognize, the need to divide and demoralize the Camp of Islam, nor to talk about the other instruments of Jihad, such as the Money Weapon, campaigns of Da'wa, and demographic conquest (as in Western Europe). And why can't Barack Obama do this? Because he, Barack Obama, has a sentimental attachment to Islam which may be nothing more than his larger sentiments, including his deep belief in Diversity (he does not appear to realize that Islam stands for the crushing of, the disappearance of, all diversity in one monotonous Dar al-Islam all over the world). He, Barack Obama, cannot see what is wrong and dangerous, civiliziationally dangerous, about Islam. He, Barack Obama, who though he has never written a single law article in his life, thinks of himself, with his ill-concealed self-preening about his "passion" for the Constitution of the country that he "loves do dearly," as the Constitution's True Best-Informed Defender, but he gives no sign of remembering Mr. Justice Jackson's "the Constitution is not a suicide pact" nor, I'm afraid, has he seen fit to explain why, and how, the Constitution "of the country that I love so dearly" is flatly contradicted, in letter and spirit, by the Shari'a.

For that alone, his world-view, and his grasp of things, should raise eyebrows, and arouse skepticism about his touted intellectual gifts, which so far seem to have been confined to a gift of the gab, an ability to slither out of tight spots (those twenty years out far and in deep with Rev. Wright, for example), and an o'erweening arrogance that, given his actual intellectual abilities, puts one in mind of the line in "Lolita" about the little girl "wearing a halter with little to halt."

Anti-Terror Laws Scare Muslims

One News (with thanks to Alan):

The conviction of an Australian Muslim on terror charges for writing a 110-page guide to terrorism has shocked the country's Islamic leaders who warn anti-terror laws make all Muslims potential targets for arrest.

The Forum on Australia's Islamic Relations said the conviction of Belal Saadallah Khazaal, 38, failed to prove he had the intention or capability to carry out a terror act.

Khazaal was convicted by a Sydney court on Wednesday of knowingly making a document connected with assistance in a terrorist act.

The book described methods of assassination, including shooting down aircraft and booby trapping rooms.

"These terror laws have specifically made every Muslim a potential target for arrest by police," Forum executive director Kuranda Seyit said in a statement.

It is not the terror laws, but he doctrine of Islam, as contained in the Qur'an, Hadith and Sira, that makes every Muslim a potential supporter of jihad, whether violent or non-violent.

Its new terrorism laws allow police to detain and question a suspect without charge for extended periods.

Australia's Muslim population, which numbers only around 280,000, has felt under siege in recent years due to tougher security laws, several terror cases and community backlash against Islam.

In 2007, Indian doctor Mohamed Haneef was held for 25 days in jail on suspicion he was linked to a car bomb plot in London and Glasgow.

Last month Australia's intelligence agency told an inquiry there was no evidence against Haneef.

An Australian judge has told jurors in the nation's biggest terror trial now underway not to let prejudices against Islam cloud their judgement when deciding whether 12 Australian Muslims were a terrorist gang and guilty of planning an attack in Melbourne.

"It is time to re-examine these laws in the wake of the Haneef case and have checks and balances to make sure that Muslims are not targeted or easily implicated in a terrorist charge, when it could be a simple case of someone having a rant and a rave," said Seyit.

"There have been many people who have had their homes raided and their passports confiscated and this is simply unconstitutional. These laws are not keeping Australia safe but in fact terrorising Australian Muslims," he said.

"What some of these laws in effect do is interfere with our fundamental rights of freedom of speech."

A book detailing how to commit acts of terror falls under "material support for terrorism," or so I would imagine. What is difficult to understand is how Muslims can maintain that no measures taken against them as a community are necessary or justified. They seem to have no ability to see our side of the situation, while constantly insisting we accept their side. Standing against Islam in any way is illegitimate (we often hear the word "illegal") from their point of view.

When We Became Acquainted With The Night

Donald Rumsfeld dedicates the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon:

This morning we gather to dedicate this ground, where a great building became a battlefield, where stone became dust, steel became shrapnel; and where flame, smoke and destruction stole the lives of 184 men, women and children.

This Memorial tells the story of their last, terrible moments on this earth — moments when families were destroyed, when a symbol of America’s strength was scarred, and when our country became, in the words of an American poet, “acquainted with the night.” ...

Unfortunately, Mr. Rumsfeld was not brave enough to describe the enemy today.

A Literary Interlude: Robert Frost

I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain -- and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
One luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

Your Invited To Call Collette Collect In Order To Correct

Below is an email sent out the other day by the "World's Self-Appointed Greatest University" -- that would be Harvard -- to recent alumni in the Boston area. Don't be surprised by the obvious errror you will immediately spot. Hardly a paragraph is sent out nowadays by Harvard College, by the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences,  by Harvard Law School, by Harvard  Business School, and of course by the Beating Heart of Harvard, the Development Office in all of its many guises and cunning disguises, that is not full of outrages against the English language. Sometimes it is grammar, or spelling; sometimes it is the cliches and the prefabrcated banality of the phony thoughts, the willingness to accept and pass on the Idols of the Age, usually with some added gush, and with such presumption and smuggery,  as to make intelligent graduates -- there are some --  wince.

Quaere: which, do you think,  is a worse indictment of Harvard?

Is it the error itself, and the many other similar errors, to be found in official communications  from Harvard with its alumni or the wider world of its putative admirers? Or is it the fact that so few of the recipients of this email, invited to attend "a gathering of recent alumni of the Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Science in the Boston Area" -- which means they must be those "recent alumni" who have benefitted from an education at the World's Greatest University, will even have noticed the error, or others just like them, and even if they were to notice, would not understand why they should care?

Perhaps you wish to make known your unhappiness with the way the Harvard Corporation has become in so many ways, right down to its offenses against the English language, merely....a corporation?

Yes. Call Collette Collect Today In Order To Correct The Error.

And write to President Faust, and make her an offer or, in the older sense, strike a bargain -- you know what kind. Tell her that instead of donating another cent to Harvard, which now has about $35 billion -- and with results that are not exactly impressive -- you have decided to channel all of your future contributions to the only enterprise to be fully trusted to keep others uncompromisingly on the straight and narrow these days --that is, the New English Review, with its well-deserved 501(c)(3) designation. But if Harvard mends its ways, and begins to send out missives in English that is at least correct and clear, and with sentiments that do not predictably worship at the altar of, but rather take a whack at, the Idols of the Age, and does so steadily for a decade, then, and only then, you will agree to resume your contributions, but at a much more sensible level, considering that Harvard is drowning in money, and its administrators and professors (with a little bit of empire-building and consulting and sitting on directors' boards on the side) have a very good thing going. So you suggest, say, about $50 a year, for twenty years.

Yes, by all means, do correct that error, and then do make that Faustian bargain.

Your Invited.

Your welcome.

YouTube Yanks Radical Islamist Videos After Lieberman's Complaint

Jerry Gordon and Joseph Shahda's June piece entitled, "Is Goodle An Enabler Of Terrorism" seems to have scored a victory. Fox News:

"Google's community guidelines for YouTube will now bar videos that incite violence, in addition to videos that contain hate speech and gratuitous violence," Sen. Joe Lieberman said in Washington on Thursday.

"YouTube was being used by Islamist terrorist organizations to recruit and train followers via the Internet and to incite terrorist attacks around the world, including right here in the United States, and Google should be commended for recognizing that," he said. "I expect these stronger community guidelines to decrease the number of videos on YouTube produced by Al Qaeda and affiliated Islamist terrorist organizations."

Lieberman (I-Conn.), head of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, sent an open letter in May to Eric Schmidt, Chairman and CEO of Google, which owns YouTube, asking him to yank "videos produced by Al Qaeda and other Islamist terrorist groups" off the site.

At the time, Google said it had taken down about 80 clips that featured gratuitous violence and hate speech, but added that "there's nothing in our guidelines that says something produced by a certain group gets censored."

The "Community Guidelines" on the video-sharing site, updated Sept. 10 according to the official YouTube blog, now read in part:

"Things like predatory behavior, stalking, threats, harassment, intimidation, invading privacy, revealing other people’s personal information, and inciting others to commit violent acts or to violate the Terms of Use are taken very seriously. Anyone caught doing these things may be permanently banned from YouTube."

A brief search of YouTube found some radical Islamist preachings, including some from Al Qaeda's No. 2 leader Ayman al Zawahiri, but no violent clips.

Today in the "Religion of Peace™"

On this date, September 11th, in 2001, terrorists killed over 3000 civilians in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania.

This much our media will say;  this much our politicians will decry in bombastic speeches amidst tears and flag-waving.

What they won’t take note of is that almost all of the terrorists were from Saudi Arabia, whom we continue to treat as our “strong ally” in the “global war on terrorism”;  Saudi Arabia, who continues to fund madrasses here in our homelands, with textbooks that teach hatred of the filthy kufirs;  Saudi Arabia, whose official religion (Wahabbist Islam) is exactly the branch of Islam that our government says is the most dangerous and "extreme".

What they won’t take note of is that the terrorists were trained and supported in Afghanistan, whom we continue to treat as our “good friend”;  Afghanistan, for whom we continue to build new roads, schools, water treatment plants, at our expense, where they never existed, even as the Afghans continue to kill the soldiers and aid workers who are building that infrastructure;  Afghanistan, where our soldiers chased the Taliban into neighboring Pakistan (where they enjoy protection), only to watch them return wherever our soldiers vacate.

What they won’t take note of is that the terrorists of 9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq or Saddam Hussein;  Iraq, where we continue to dump our treasure and our soldiers’ lives into a black hole with no tangible benefit for the kufirs, and with no end in sight for the foreseeable future;  Iraq, who was not an imminent threat to the U.S., but who was an imminent threat to the Saudis, Kuwaitis, Emirates, and the Iranians.  Their gain is our loss, literally.

What they won’t take note of is that the majority of the Islamic world does not believe that Muslims had anything to do with the 9/11 attacks, that it was actually “the Jews”, or the CIA, or some other vague and baseless conspiracy theory.   The media will not rebroadcast the images of “Palestinians” dancing in joy and handing out sweets in celebration of 9/11.  They will not point out that polls show that all across Dar al-Islam, the “extremist” Muslims such as Osama Bin Laden continue to enjoy more support than the U.S. or other kufirs.

But most of all, what they won’t take note of is that there is one thing that the 9/11 terrorists, and almost all terrorists across the world, share, and that is a belief in the ideology of Islam.  They won’t admit that the acts of 9/11 were in accordance with the teachings of the holy, holy Qur’an, and that the terrorists were following the example of Muhammad, the Perfect Example For All Time, to be emulated everywhere, by everyone, or else.  In fact, they refuse to give even the most cursory scrutiny to the contents of the Qur’an, to the even more explicitly violent and disgusting hadiths, to centuries of Islamic history, or to the expository statements made by the terrorists themselves, suffused with specific Qur’anic quotations and backed up by centuries of mainstream Islamic jurisprudence.  We are only given empty and false platitudes such as “Islam is the Religion of Peace”, “Islam means ‘peace’”, “Islam is incompatible with violence”, “Islam does not condone the killing of ‘innocents’”.  Anyone with the slightest bit of curiosity and initiative can look at the documents themselves and draw their own conclusions.

The simple fact is, if Islam did not exist, the 9/11 attacks would not have occurred. Period.

The motivation for writing the “Today in the Religion of Peace™” is to show that, contrary to the commentary of the pundits and “Middle East experts”, the jihad did not start on September 11th 2001, nor is it focused solely on the United States.  The jihad started during the lifetime of Mohammad, 1,400 years ago, long before the United States or modern Israel existed.  The jihad has struck in almost every continent on the planet.  The jihad has struck in every century since Islam was created in the 7th Century.  The jihad has waxed and waned, not due to the behavior of the kufirs, but purely due to the financial wherewithal of the Muslims.  Unfortunately for the kufirs, Dar al-Islam’s financial wherewithal is currently booming, not due to industriousness or innovation or investment, but due to the accidental placement of crude oil under Muslim-majority nations by geological processes eons before those nations came into existence.

The events of 9/11 were not atypical for Islam, they are typical.  Every single day of the year is the anniversary of some or another Islamic religiously-justified genocide, or war, or attack, or conquest, or assassination.  Placed in perspective, the 3,000 people killed on 9/11 pale in comparison with the hundreds of thousands killed in India, Greece, Armenia, Macedonia, Indonesia, and several African nations.  The 9/11 attacks loom in significance only because “we” Westerners were the victims this time, and because we watched it happen live, on television, instead of reading about it in some musty old history book.

The motivation for the 9/11 attacks cannot be found by scrutinizing the actions of the United States, or Israel, or any other kufirs.  The jihad is not due to Britney Spears, or the bikini, or feminism, or gay marriage, or American foreign policy, or a dearth of foreign aid;  the jihad is not due to “nationalism”, or poverty, or lack of education, or lack of opportunities.  It is not due to an amazingly long string of cases of “mental illness” by “lone deranged individuals”.  The jihad cannot be ended by changing or moderating our behavior to assuage their grievances.  According to core, mainstream, Islamic beliefs, the jihad can never end until every living person becomes a slave to Allah, or at least accepts the absolute superiority of the Muslim over the non-Muslim and agrees to pay the dhimmi poll-tax.

The next 9/11 attack cannot be prevented by appeasement.  The jihad cannot be ended by negotiation or compromise.  The jihad also cannot be defeated purely by military means.  The battlefield is not in Baghdad, or Riyadh, or Islamabad;  it is in the head of every person, Believer or non-Believer.  The best weapon against the jihad is not a gun or a bomb.  The best weapon is education, of non-Muslims, about what Islam actually teaches its followers, and how those teachings have been interpreted and implemented by Muslims throughout history.  The front line against jihad is not held only by professional soldiers, it is held by you.  Read Hugh Fitzgerald and the editors of NewEnglishReview.org.  Read Robert Spencer and the editors of JihadWatch.org.  Read Ali Sina and the editors of FaithFreedom.org. Read Ibn Warraq, Bat Ye’or, Ayaan Hirsi Ali.  Read.  Investigate.  Learn.  Our safety and well-being depend on it.

Teddy Bear Jihad Redux

From Associated Press:

KHARTOUM, Sudan - The chief investigator in the slaying of an American diplomat in Sudan testified Thursday that the five suspects on trial also planned to kill a British diplomat in the East African country.

Police Gen. Abdul Rahim Ahmed Abdullah told a court in the capital that the five plotted to kill a British diplomat in revenge for a British schoolteacher's decision to let her young students to name a toy bear Muhammad, the same name as Islam's founder.

Mis-naming a teddy bear is sufficient cause for murder, according to the followers of Islam.

But on the day they were to execute their plot, the British diplomat escaped unharmed when he disappeared into a crowd, the police investigator said. He did not identify the diplomat.

The five suspects are charged in the killing of American diplomat John Granville, 33, and his Sudanese driver in the early hours of New Year's Day on the streets of the capital, Khartoum.

John Granville was a Fulbright Fellow, in Sudan to implement a program to bring thousands of hand-crank powered radios to the Sudanese people.

The brazen shooting was the first time an American was killed in Sudan since 1973.

Believe it or not, the previous shooting also involved Muslim terrorists.  In the 1973 attack in Khartoum, "Black September" terrorists under the command of Yasir Arafat kidnapped 10 people from a diplomatic gathering.  The kidnappers demanded the release of Sirhan Sirhan, the "Palestinian" assassin of Robert Kennedy.  Then-President Nixon refused to pay "blackmail".  Under direct orders (by phone) of Yasir Arafat, the terrorists murdered U.S. Ambassador to Sudan, Cleo Noel, Belgian Chargé d'affaires Guy Eid, and US Deputy Chief of Mission to Sudan  George Curtis Moore.

In a previous court hearing, the prosecution said the five acted out of religious zeal and that they were looking for any Western target during New Year's celebrations.

Granville was being driven home at about 4 a.m. when another vehicle cut off his car and its occupants opened fire before fleeing. His driver was immediately killed. Granville, who was hit by five bullets, died of his wounds after surgery.

In his testimony Thursday, the chief investigator said the defendants had studied the housing areas of Americans in Sudan. The accused include former Sudanese army officer Muhanad Osman Yusuf, 29, who was in active service at the time of Granville's slaying. He was dismissed after he was implicated in the case.

Well, I guess that's something.  The Sudanese are obviously our "good friends" and "strong allies" in the "global war on terror."

The five suspects say they were coerced to confess to the American's killing.

The trial continues Sept. 21.

Abdullah, the chief investigator, also testified that the defendants had initially planned to go to Somalia to wage jihad, or holy war, and received 5,000 Saudi riyals, or US$9,300, from a Saudi fundraiser to do so. But they decided to stay and "work in Sudan."

Any chance the Saudi fundraiser will be identified, or prosecuted, or penalized in any way?

Last year, British schoolteacher Gillian Gibbons was sentenced to 15 days in jail and deportation for insulting Islam for allowing her pupils to call a teddy bear Muhammad — an act clerics considered insulting to the Prophet Muhammad. She was later pardoned and allowed to return home to Britain.
