Race war at Scotland Yard: Dizaei and the crooked lawyer
This gets worse.
A police watchdog has ordered an inquiry into claims that a senior Scotland Yard officer advised defence lawyers on how to undermine a case being prosecuted by his own force.
Commander Ali Dizaei is alleged to have acted as a consultant to the lawyer at the heart of the Yard race row in a case involving a woman accused of causing death by dangerous driving.
Today the Metropolitan Police Authority announced that it had called in an outside force to investigate the allegations involving Mr Dizaei, who is president of the National Black Police Association.
Mr Dizaei, who has not been suspended, will be issued with a Regulation Nine notice giving him warning that he is under official investigation.
The Daily Mail today reports that Dr Mireskandari allegedly used the police officer as a consultant to point out flaws in a death by dangerous driving prosecution being brought by the Met against one of the lawyer's clients.
The 47-year-old has publicly vowed to destroy Sir Ian's 'golden circle' of white officers which, he claims, resulted in Ghaffur being sidelined because of his colour.
Today we can reveal that in a tape recorded conversation Mireskandari spelt out Dizaei's role in the defence case.
Dr Mireskandari, 47, co-founder of the solicitors Dean and Dean, is said to have held a case conference on the hit and run case in his offices last year and announced that Mr Dizaei was coming into the office to give advice.
However, because of concern among some of those present, Mr Dizaei was not invited to join the conference but one of the team was told to go to 'hear what he had to say'. It is alleged that the Commander then gave advice on weaknesses in the Met case and how they could be exploited.
An MPA spokesman said: 'We can confirm that Commander Dizaei is currently being investigated by the MPA for a matter of alleged misconduct.'
Last night it also emerged last year the woman defendant in the death by dangerous driving case was a guest at Dizaei's third wedding reception at a West London restaurant, while she was on bail.
The revelation that Dizaei tried to undermine a case will lead to calls for him to be investigated over his links to the lawyer. We can also reveal today that Keith Vaz, a former Labour minister and now chairman of the home affairs select committee, is a personal friend of the conman.
Mr Dizaei, 45, issued a statement saying he had 'no recollection' of meeting the defendant.
He said: I am president of the National Black Police Association and in that capacity I speak to many people.'
Mr Vaz has been an enthusiastic supporter of the lawyer's attempts to force an investigation into alleged racism by the solicitors' watchdog.
Last year Mr Vaz wrote to the SRA complaining on behalf of Mireskandari about the watchdog's alleged 'prejudicial and discriminatory conduct' against his firm.
Last night Mr Vaz refused to comment.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority is investigating Mireskandari. He has responded with a £10million lawsuit against the SRA. Our revelations have already sparked calls for Mireskandari to be suspended pending the outcome of the probe.

Three reports on a single theme.
From the Gulf Daily News
MANAMA: An American woman was referred to the court yesterday by the Public Prosecution after being charged with insulting the Prophet Mohammed.
The woman, who works as a teacher at a private university in Bahrain, was said to have been reported to the university management by a student, who claimed that she had shown them pictures depicting the Prophet Mohammed improperly dressed. Lets face it, any depiction of Mohammed, no matter how tasteful are going to cause outrage.
"The teacher was made to apologise to the students but was told to have insulted the girl who had reported her to the management instead," said a Public Prosecution spokesman.
From The Age Prominent Malaysian blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, who has targeted government figures on his website, has been arrested under internal security laws, his wife says.
"They came here and arrested him under the Internal Security Act for inciting hate in his articles on Islam," she told AFP.
The Internal Security Act, which human rights groups have pushed to have abolished, provides for renewable two-year periods of detention without trial and is normally used against suspected terrorists.
It has also been used to lock up opponents of the government, and last year five Hindu rights activists were detained after mounting an anti-discrimination protest that targeted government race policies.
Raja Petra Karauddin is already in trouble for writing about the involvement of senior government figures in the murder of a Mongolian woman.
And from Earth Times Cologne, Germany - An Islamic theology professor in Germany who doubts the existence of the Prophet Mohammed won partial backing Thursday from another German scholar. Professor Sven Muhammad Kalisch, who trains imams, had upset the Muslim community with publications in which he said there was no proof that the Prophet was a historical person or that the Koran originated as Islam teaches.
Professor Gudrun Kraemer, who teaches Islamic studies at the Free University of Berlin, said Thursday on German public radio she agreed there was no indubitable historical evidence of the Prophet's existence.
Kalisch runs the Centre for Islamic Religious Studies (CRS) at the University of Muenster in northern Germany.
The four main Muslim groups in Germany last week withdrew their delegates from the CRS board of advisors in protest at Kalisch, saying they had no wish to gag him, but could no longer recommend him as a teacher to young Muslims learning theology. She said Kalisch was not unusual among Islamic scholars in demanding documentary proof that the Prophet had existed.
"All critical Islamic scholars know we have no original documents contemporary with the assumed lifetime of Mohammed," she said. But it was also understandable that those who believed in Mohammed's existence as dogma would not want a person who doubted it to be training their teachers, she said.
I was told on the Alpha course that the historical evidence for the existence of Jesus Christ in contemporary sources is actually better than that for Julius Caesar. The sources don’t necessarily verify the miracles or teaching, but they do support His existence.

Today in the "Religion of Peace™"
On this date, September 12th, in 1683, European forces under Jan III Sobieski turned back the army of the Ottoman Caliphate at the Gates of Vienna, thus saving Europe from further Islamic attacks.
The Ottomans, under Kara Mustafa Pasha, had besieged Vienna since July 1683. The residents of nearby Perchtoldsdorf had surrendered to the Ottomans in the preceding days, only to be slaughtered, following the example of Mohammad at the Battle of the Trench. The Ottoman Caliph Mehmed IV had sent a demand to Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor, for surrender:
"Primarily we order You to await Us in Your residence city of Vienna so that We can decapitate You. [...] We will exterminate You and all Your followers. [...] Children and grown-ups will be exposed to the most atrocious tortures before put to an end in the most ignominious way imaginable..."
The Viennese wisely chose to decline the generous offer to surrender and be decapitated. Instead, they prepared their defenses and made alliances. The Habsburgs of Vienna and the Poles had signed a mutual-aid treaty. So, as Vienna came under siege, King Sobieski set out with 37,000 Polish troops. They were joined by troops from Saxony, Bavaria, Baden, Franconia and Swabia. Jan Sobieski said that his purpose for going to Vienna was:
"to proceed to the Holy War, and with God's help to give back the old freedom to besieged Vienna, and thereby help wavering Christendom."
Indeed, Christendom wavered on the brink as Muslims moved into position to attack central Europe. From Vienna, they would have gained a stranglehold over European overland trade routes.
The Turks had also made alliances. Protestant and anti-Habsburg Imre Thököly of Hungary used his troops to fight on the side of the Muslims, in this battle and for the rest of his life. He was eventually well-remunerated by Sultan Mustafa II for his assistance to the jihad.
The Turks built underground tunnels, and then used explosives to weaken the walls surrounding Vienna. By the time Sobieski's reinforcements arrived, the Muslims had breached several holes in the walls. The Viennese had fortuitously found a huge explosive device and disabled it, just as the Battle of Vienna began.
Sobieski had planned on attacking on the 13th, but noticed that the Turks were unprepared and weak. Just as in 1456 in the Siege of Belgrade, a sudden, improvised attack proved extremely effective in catching the Ottomans off-guard, leading to a rout. Hours into the battle, Sobieski led one of the largest cavlary charges in history, breaking the Ottoman line and forcing them into a full retreat.
For the defeat, Kara Mustafa Pasha was ordered strangled to death by the Caliph.

Odense City Council wants to discourage Muslim schoolchildren from fasting during Ramadan
From The Copenhagen Post
Odense City Council is issuing a recommendation to schools in the district, to discourage children from fasting during the Islamic month of Ramadan.
The Children and Youth Committee wants public school officials in the Odense area to encourage their pupils not to fast, over fears for the health and wellbeing.
'We know that there are some children not eating during the day and it is not possible to learn on an empty stomach, without being tired and rundown. That's why we want to stress to parents that it's not an acceptable behaviour,' said Jane Jegind, the head of the committee. Especially as Ramadan is a dry fast - keeping children thirsty is so wicked I cannot imagine how they think God would find it pleasing.
Fasting from sunrise to sunset is one of the main requirements for practicing Muslims during Ramadan. Those who are sick, elderly, pregnant or nursing are exempt from fasting, as are pre-pubescent children.
However, inquiries at the 10 Odense schools with the highest number of Muslim students showed a broad support for the plan by school officials, reports Fyens Stiftstidende newspaper.
Johnny Rasmussen, principal at the Rising school, said that parents need to take responsibility for their children choosing to fast. They must know that it isn't good for the child's health and presents them with problems in school.'
Fellow principal Carsten Høyer of Seden school agreed with Rasmussen, but said that the authorities can't force the issue. . . It can't be a decree because we have no possibility of sanctions. We can't suspend the children or punish the parents.'
If only British schools would follow suit. But they won’t of course.

Next 9/11 in Britain warn banned Muslim militants
From The London Evening Standard
Members of a banned Muslim extremist group used the anniversary of the September 11 attacks to warn of more terrorist atrocities against the West.
Leaders of the Al Muhajiroun sect said Osama bin Laden had taught the Americans a "lesson" seven years ago, but the "crusaders" had not learned and the next "9/11 will take place in Britain, the next 7/7 [London bombings] could take place locally".
Exiled cleric Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed addressed a 100-strong audience in Walthamstow last night via a video link from Lebanon.
The radical preacher told supporters he believed the British government was trying to assassinate him and claimed to have foiled a bomb plot.
Technical difficulties meant much of his speech was inaudible, but his appearance was greeted by cheers of "faith" and "god is great" at the community centre on Lea Bridge Road. I can’t place a Community Centre in Lea Bridge Road but it may be attached to the Mosque, or the Mosque’s gym, or the Active Chance Foundation which are all in the same building.
The most incendiary speech was delivered by Saiful Islam, who lauded Bin Laden and al Qaeda for their "courage" in retaliating against the "dictatorship and oppression" of the West. He said: "The blame of 9/11 belongs to no one but the American government. They are the terrorists. Sheikh Osama warned America numerous times, it was because of their own arrogance, because they thought they are a superpower and nobody could match them, that Sheikh Osama taught them a lesson - a lesson they still haven't learned."
"Wake up. Withdraw. Listen to the warnings. Muslims will stand side to side, not just al Qaeda. The actions of the British and Americans have given prominence to al Qaeda. All of us have a part to play in stopping the violence or the next 9/11 will take place in Britain, the next 7/7 could take place locally," he added. Mr Choudary was the last speaker and was more guarded in his address to the young Muslim men that made up most of the audience.
But he criticised the Government for persecuting "innocent Muslims", naming Bakri, Abu Hamza, Abu Qatada and Omar Brooks along with the defendants in the airliner bomb plot trial.
He said: "They [the Government] say they are civilised. But they don't act very civilised. They jailed Sheikh Abu Qatada in Belmarsh prison. Is that the way you treat your guests?"
Mr Choudary then referred to Bakri's notorious aim of flying the "flag of Sharia" over Downing Street, claiming that this would happen by 2020 as 500 people a day were converting to Islam and laughing that Muslim families in places like Whitechapel and Bethnal Green were having "10 or 12 children each".
He ranted against mainstream bodies like the Muslim Council of Britain, who condemned 9/11 and 7/7, accusing them of "selling their souls to the devil".

9/11 Remembrance Verboten
Paul Belien writes in Brussels Journal:
Yesterday evening youths in Kuregem, an immigrant neighbourhood of Brussels, threw stones at buses of the Flemish public transport company De Lijn. No passengers got hurt though the buses, heading for Flanders, the Dutch-speaking area surrounding Brussels, were damaged and windows were shattered. The youths were said to be angry because earlier in the day Flemish politicians had tried to hold a vigil for the victims of the 2001 9/11 attacks in Manhattan.
Yesterday morning about 100 people gathered at the WTC buildings in Brussels to each lay down flowers in remembrance of the 9/11 victims. The participants were members of the Vlaams Belang party, which strives for the independence of Flanders from Belgium and also wants to halt Muslim immigration. After Filip Dewinter, a VB leader, laid down his flowers, the Brussels police intervened and stopped the ceremony.
Last week Freddy Thielemans, the Socialist Mayor of Brussels, had prohibited the 9/11 demonstration near the Brussels WTC towers. Mr Thielemans banned the demo arguing that the Brussels WTC towers are situated near an immigrant neighbourhood and that it is inappropriate to hold such a demonstration during Ramadan. An appeal against the Mayor’s ban was rejected by the Council of State, Belgium’s highest administrative court. Last year, Mr Thielemans also banned a demonstration in remembrance of the 9/11 atrocities. When the demonstration went ahead anyway, the police savagely beat up the demonstrators and arrested most of them, including Mario Borghezio, an Italian MEP (member of the European Parliament) for the Lega Nord. Mr Borghezio’s arrest led to an official complaint from the Italian government and to Belgium formally apologizing and assuring that in future it will do “everything possible to guarantee the immunity of MEPs.”
During yesterday’s demonstration two female VB secretaries and one VB member who tried to follow Dewinter’s example and lay down flowers were arrested and had to spend the remainder of the day in a police cell. The secretaries later lodged a complaint against the police for sexual harassment. MEP Mario Borghezio was not arrested, though he heckled the Brussels police and shouted, according to the Belgian press, “Islamists are parasites.”
Filip Dewinter said that the arguments of the Mayor to ban the vigil are “the clearest proof of the growing Islamization of Brussels and other major European cities.” He also criticized the decision to ban the public remembrance of the 9/11 victims while the Mayor had earlier allowed a demonstration of so-called “truth activists” who claim that the American government was behind the 9/11 terror attacks. Last Sunday some 400 “truth activists,” many of them members of the anti-American organisation ATTAC, marched from the European Union headquarters to the American embassy in Brussels.
In the coming weeks Vlaams Belang intends to distribute 100,000 leaflets in Brussels protesting the islamization of the city. “Many Muslims do not want to assimilate and are unwilling to accept Western democratic values,” it says. “Brussels is a hub of extremist Islamic groups. We have to break the taboo on Islamic extremism, imposed by the multicultural society.” By 2020 three quarters of the inhabitants of Brussels are expected to be of non-Belgian origin. According to recent estimates Belgium (pop. 10.5 million) has almost 630,000 Muslim inhabitants, which is 6% of the population. In Flanders the Muslims constitute 3.9%, in Wallonia (the French-speaking part of Belgium) 4%, and in Brussels 25.5%.
Meanwhile, the Belgian authorities are continuing their efforts to thwart Vlaams Belang by stripping Frank Vanhecke, the leader of the VB in the European Parliament, of his political rights so that the popular Mr Vanhecke will not be able to stand for election during the European elections in June 2009. Jo Vandeurzen, the Belgian minister of Justice, has asked the European Parliament to lift the parliamentary immunity of Mr Vanhecke to allow Belgium to prosecute and sentence the politician.
Mr Vandeurzen, a Christian-Democrat, wants to bring Mr Vanhecke to court on charges of racism. The Belgian authorities hold Mr Vanhecke responsible for the publication of a text in a local party publication in the town of Sint-Niklaas. The author had blamed a wave of vandalism at a Christian cemetery on immigrant youths. As the culprits were minors, Belgian law prohibits disclosing their identity, thereby preventing the VB to prove beyond doubt whether or not the youthful vandals were, indeed, Muslim immigrants. Though the author of the text is known and is NOT being prosecuted, Mr Vanhecke is, even though he had not written the article, nor seen it before it was published. The authorities hold him responsible for the article since he was the national VB leader at the time of publication...

How I wasted my Friday morning
David Tennant a sell-out in West End Hamlet
David Tennant's West End role in Hamlet sold out in a single day after Doctor Who fans sparked a ticket frenzy.
Demand was so high that the official website crashed and tickets were soon exchanging hands on unofficial sites for more than £1,100 a pair.
Booking opened Friday for the Royal Shakespeare Company production, which comes to London's Novello Theatre in December after a sell-out run in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The site crashed within minutes while fans jammed the telephone hotline, snapping up all 6,000 tickets by the end of the day.
Except with the speed the tickets have found their way on to ebay and other sale sites they were not all fans. I was on the telephone at 2 minutes past 10, getting the engaged tone and pressing redial again. After 10 minutes I stopped getting the engaged tone and the pompous British Telecom official recorded message came on “Lines are busy – try again later – you have not been charged for this call – now go away you presumptuous little housewife”. Back at the computer by this time the RSC website had crashed. By the time it came up again it was directing people to the theatre box office. When I managed to get on that site it suggested that seats for many dates were still available but I couldn’t get past the “Select date and continue” button for any of them. And all the time I could see the list of dates getting smaller and the message “to book, telephone box office” Which I went back to doing, to finally get a recorded message shortly after 2pm, from a triumphant and smug sounding employee “that all tickets for Hamlet are sold out. Nah nah!”
I don’t know what sort of telephone, or internet connection I would have needed to get through in the very tiny window available before things crashed.
Hundreds of people queued outside the Novello in the hope of getting tickets, with some camping out in the street overnight.
Sellers are now charging exorbitant sums on the internet. At getmein.com, a "fan to fan marketplace" site owned by Ticketmaster, a pair of seats for the opening night on December 3 was priced at £1,164, including a £174 "processing fee".
Shysters. Market forces is one thing. That’s greed. The Globe closes for winter shortly but there will be something good there next year.

Muslims Continue Pushing Christians Out of Bethlehem
From Arutz Sheva International Israeli News
The Muslim Fatah-controlled authority in Judea and Samaria is encouraging a "sharp demographic shift" in Bethlehem, where the Christian population went from a 60 percent majority in 1990 to a 40 percent minority in 2000, to about 15 percent of the city's total population today.
It is estimated that, for the past seven years, more than one thousand Christians have been emigrating from the Bethlehem area annually and that only 10,000 to 13,000 Christians remain in the city. International human rights lawyer Justus Reid Weiner, who teaches at Hebrew University, told the Jerusalem Institute for Global Jewish Affairs that, under the PA-Fatah regime, Christian Arabs have been victims of frequent human rights abuses by Muslims.
"There are many examples of intimidation, beatings, land theft, firebombing of churches and other Christian institutions, denial of employment, economic boycotts, torture, kidnapping, forced marriage, sexual harassment, and extortion," he said. PA officials are directly responsible for many of the attacks, and some Muslims who have converted to Christianity have been murdered.
As people with "dhimmi" status, Christians living in Palestinian-controlled territories are not treated as the equals of Muslims. He says: "They are subjected to debilitating legal, political, cultural, and religious restrictions. This has become a critical problem for the Palestinian Christians in the West Bank and Gaza. Muslim groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad have built a culture of hatred upon the age-old foundations of Islamic society. Moreover, the PA has adopted Islamic law into its draft constitution."
In 2006, Hassan El-Masalmeh, a member of the Bethlehem City Council and local Hamas leader, publicly advocated implementing a discriminatory tax on non-Muslim residents.
“Tens of thousands of Palestinian Christians have left their ancestral homes and emigrated to North America, Central America, South America, Europe, and Australia. They flee to almost any country that will issue them a visa," Weiner said. "Neither the Palestinian Christian leaders nor the PA want to reveal accurate statistics. That would mean the extent of the emigration would become publicly known. They would then have to face questions about the reasons for this decline."
Incidents of Muslim men ‘seducing' or kidnapping Christian girls have caused growing anxiety among the Christian population. In May 2004 a 16 year old Christian girl from Bethlehem who was a U.S. citizen, went missing for five days after being kidnapped by a 23 year-old Muslim. The girl's family contacted the American Consulate in Jerusalem, and it was only thanks to their intervention that she was rescued and left with her family for the United States. The episode received virtually no international media coverage.
In another case, a Muslim family appeared uninvited on the doorstep of a wealthy Christian family in Judea and Samaria and demanded that the Christian family's daughter, known for her beauty, marry their son. Their son was already dressed up for his wedding, accompanied by the sheikh and fifteen Muslim men. To protect his family the Christian girl's father opened fire on the Muslim entourage, killing three and wounding ten. The girl's family immediately abandoned their home and fled abroad."
And there’s more.

Minnesota's Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy
Jerry Gordon has covered the controversy over the Saudi Islamic Academy in Fairfax Virginia here and here and has posted on a Somali Academy in Ohio that is causing problems here. The Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report posted the following on the Tarek ibn Zyad Academy in Minnesota, which is quickly becoming another hot potato that nobody wants to deal with. School officials sense this and are choosing to be confrontational, refusing to comply with state law regarding prayer in school.
Local media has reported on an ongoing controversy between Minnesota State officials and an Islamic charter school with close connections to the Muslim American Society (MAS) and Islamic Relief, two organizations tied to the global Muslim Brotherhood. According to the report:
Last week, Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy (TiZA) and the Minnesota Department of Education appeared to reach an understanding in the controversy over whether Islam is being promoted at this public school. But behind the scenes, a storm may be brewing. TiZA officials have “taken a confrontational road” in discussions with the department, according to Deputy MDE Commissioner Chas Anderson, the department’s No. 2 official. Anderson says that the two sides have not yet reached an agreement on one key issue and that MDE will be closely monitoring TiZA’s performance in future months.
An earlier post discussed the connections between TIZA and the MAS and Islamic Relief as well as the Islamic character of the school. The MAS was established in 1993 by leaders of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood and a Chicago Tribune investigation has revealed it’s close ties to the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. Another post has discussed the Brotherhood ties of Islamic Relief as well as corruption charges against the global charity.
The latest news report goes on to discuss the resistance by TIZA to making changes in its Friday prayer event:
In a report issued in May, the MDE concluded that TiZA’s Friday prayer event violated the law and since then has been working with the school to make changes.” We wanted TiZA to do Friday prayers the way all other public schools” handle similar activities — “as release time, under state law,” said Anderson. In a release-time arrangement, students move off-site for religious activities. But TiZA said no, according to Anderson. Instead, the school will continue to hold Friday prayer on its premises. Students will lead prayer and staff will be present only “to ensure student safety,” said Zaman in a letter to the MDE. In a response to Zaman’s letter, Anderson wrote complaining of what she called the “defensive tone” of the letter in which he set forth the school’s intentions. “It is inaccurate for TiZA to imply that MDE’s legal concerns regarding the school’s operations … were unfounded,” she wrote, “and it is of utmost importance that TiZA take seriously its responsibility to comply with applicable state and federal laws.” TiZA now says it will shorten Friday prayers — whose length has been a potential concern because of instructional time requirements — though it has not said by how much. MDE has agreed that TiZA’s new arrangement on after-school bus transportation will bring the school into legal compliance on that issue. But the department is highly skeptical that TiZA’s proposed arrangement for on-site, student-led Friday prayers will work.
The new report also discusses other controversial aspects of the TIZA religious program:
While TiZA and the department don’t agree about the Friday prayer service — even over whether they have an agreement on it — there are other religious accommodations at the school that raise questions. In its May report, for example, MDE said that regularly scheduled daily prayers at TiZA appear to pass legal muster because they are “voluntary and student-led.” But imagine the reaction if prayer time — reflecting only one faith — were built into the schedule at, say, Stillwater Junior High.Asked if other public schools would be allowed to accommodate religion the way that TiZA accommodates Islam, Anderson said: “We sought guidance, we want guidance” from federal sources and the Minnesota attorney general, “but no one will give us a black and white answer.”MDE says there are broader questions at issue. “This upcoming legislative session may be an appropriate forum” for “a serious discussion about the appropriateness of sectarian organizations sponsoring publicly-funded nonsectarian charter schools in the first place,” said Anderson in a statement Monday. For now, she added, “This is a gray area. School authorities at TiZA know it’s a gray area, and they are walking right up to and over that line.”

Israel, Saved By The Bell, One More Time
"Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is quoted as saying that nine months of peace talks with Israel have failed to bring agreement on any of the core issues. That would include the status of Jerusalem, Palestinian refugees, Jewish settlements and the borders of a future Palestinian state. Mr. Abbas told the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz that "the gaps between the sides are very wide." [from this story]
If true, Israelis can breathe a sigh of relief. But if Olmert is replaced by Livni, then they can expect more of the same. More negotiations over what will continue to be called -- without the government of Israel unmasking the farce -- a peace-process" that will be based on the "core issues" that leave out, that overlook, that deliberately ignore, the fact that none of these "core issues" really matters because they are trivial given what Islam teaches. Because of Islam, because of the immutability of its texts, and the permanence of its tenets, and because there will always be far more primitive Muslims than there will be the kind of suave, advanced ones -- the very ones that Israelis on the left pride themselves as counting among their "friends" and whose personal charm and affability (and that shared mockery of "religious Jews" who are depicted as the true fanatics) get in the way of an unhindered view of things -- it is with an understanding of those Believers, and that Islam, and not some nuanced falling-away from it, that Israeli leaders must base their policies.
Any agreement or treaty that Israel reaches with the Gazan Arabs or the "West Bank" Arabs or both, that is any agreement that a Mahmoud Nobody-Here-But-Us-Accountants Abbas, or someone else (it could be Sari Nuseibeh, it could be Marwan Barghouti, it could be Saeb Erekat -- it doesn't matter for Islam remains the same), will commit the Muslim Arab side to nothing. It has happened again and again, since the Armistice agreements of 1949. No matter what Israel thinks has been settled -- say, the status of the Shebaa Farms, or the Golan Heights (Israel annexed them in 1981, and has no business putting them up on the block yet again) -- for the Arabs nothing is ever settled. For once the Arab Muslim side receives its tangible gains, sooner or later it will renege on its own promises. There are those Israelis who allow themselves to believe that Egypt, and Jordan, can be said to be honoring a "peace treaty" with Israel. This misses the point. Those countries are not at war, in the battlefield sense, with Israel not because they are honoring a treaty, but because they are keeping the "peace" of their truce-treaty, or hudna, for exactly the same reasons that Syria or Saudi Arabia or any other Arab state does, because they have calculated that Israel is in a position to inflict terrible damage, and even, in the case of Egypt, in seizing the Sinai yet again and this time not likely to again surrender it for the sake of "peace."
Once it has pocketed the tangible concessions made by Israel, as always the Muslim side will, sooner or later, breach every single one of its promises. And it will do so not because this or that particular Arab has turned out to be untrustworthy, but because Islam instructs Muslims that they must never reconcile themselves to the permanent existence of Infidel rule anywhere in the world, and above all, or at least first of all, it is crazy to think that Arab Muslims would ever contemplate the continued existence of Israel, an Infidel nation-state, on land once possessed by Muslims (it doesn't matter whom they seized the land from, nor does it matter that in North Africa and the Middle East Muslim Arabs possess lands that together are a thousand times larger than Israel), and not only that, but land that bestrides the very area that links the Maghreb to the Middle East.
No, Livni will not mention this. She will not raise the issue of Islam because, you see, her whole "getting-beyond-my-parents" personal narrative -- child of Likud supporters, who finally "saw the light" because she became a "realist" (what kind of "realist" ignores Islam in attempting to deal with Slow Jihadists and Fast Jihadists? What kind of "realist" thinks that the most important thing is not the physical survival of Israel and the Jews of Israel, but rather whether Israel retains its "Jewish and democratic character" by constantly giving up whatever lands happen to have large numbers of Arabs occupying them, instead of recognizing with grim sobriety that as a matter of national survival -- of border defense, of control of aquifers, of control of invasion routes -- Israel simply cannot give up, and should not be forced to give up, one inch or dunam of what is called, so comically, the "West Bank."
She, Livni, is not a "realist" at all. For having given up the "West Bank," Israel would simply find itself in the same position, but now much reduced in size, and in this dimidiated state much more vulnerable. For the Arabs, who outbreed the Jews, would increase their numbers, and the next place that might have an Arab majority would be the Galilee (where already the Arabs have been attacking Jews with impunity), and along will come Livni, or a later Livni, to say, yet again, that Israel cannot "remain Jewish and democratic" and that, of course, in order to retain its moral purity -- yes, we all know how important that is, don't we? -- it must now give up the Galilee, too. And so on.
For some, for many, for too many, in Israel, there is no understanding of the larger picture, and no attempt to take a longer view. And Islam, the most important force in the Middle East, and the reason why Jews for centuries were treated as dhimmis, or why the Jewish state of Israel will never, ever be truly accepted -- and no amount of supposed intertwining of economic interests of Jews and Arabs, in, say, Jenin or some other "West Bank" town, disproves this, but merely shows that Arabs are perfectly happy to pocket whatever they can get from those hated Jews, but that does not change their deeply-held views, and does not change the texts, and tenets of Islam that no collaborative efforts in exporting fruit or even computers will undo.
Livni is lacking. And so many others are too.
For now, the people of Israel have, it seems, been saved by the bell. Olmert is a crook, and is being hauled off-stage. But what if he had not been a crook? What if he had not had to leave the stage? Think then what permanent and terrible damage he might have done?
Supporters of Israel, the unthinking kind (there are so many of those), the complacent kind who think that if only, if only...then "peace" can be achieved, the kind who do not see what is wrong with the phrase "two-state solution" or "one-state solution" and who cannot get through their thick heads the real nature, and permanence, of the war -- the Jihad -- being waged on Israel, and not only, or mainly, through qitaal, combat, or through what the Arabs consider to be a justified variant of qitaal, the killing of innocents through terrorism -- like to take consolation in that famous phrase from silver-tonqued Abba Eban.
What is that phrase? Oh, it's about how "the Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity." But what consolation is that? This means that again and again the Israelis have offered grotesquely generous and dangerous concessions, and the Arabs, again and again, have saved the Israels -- just as the people of Israel have been granted a temporary reprieve thanks to Olmert's petty greed (those expensive cigars, for example) and the loose tongue of Morris Talansky.
But this complacent quote -- "the Arabs have never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity" - shows a terrifying misunderstanding of what this means. It means that eventually the Arabs won't miss that opportunity, and Israel, having agreed foolishly to yield so much, will no longer be saved by the bell - - the bell of corrupt leaders, caught by the police, or the bell of the Arabs who will always manage, so it is fondly believed, not to "miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity."
No, that will stop. And unless common sense breaks in, unless Israel's ruling elite recognizes the permanent threat, the threat that can only be understood if you allow yourself to understand the meaning, and menace, of Islam, some day Israel will not be saved by any bell.
And that will be that.

Coming up for air
I don't like keeping my nose to the grindstone. The grindstone is beginning to grate. And it's not great. What's it like out there?
If only I had a pun to keep me cheery in my grindstone sniffing. I thought of one: "I'm a grindstone cowboy." But it was not to be. I was Google-thwarted. It's been done by Buck 65:
little dj critical, the analytical,
will ridicule and make the other djs sick 'cause he's infectious.
he doesn't wear gloves but he gets wreckless
on the one and two and eats cereal for breakfast.
with the tricks and pieces that your tapedeck need,
scratchin' and cuttin' at a breakneck speed
when he cracks the wrist like a hip hop activist,
he gets better 'cause he practices,
all the time, so let's get mac to this.
The title is good, but the words are dire. How can such swine come up with such a pearl? Whatever. Here is Glen Campbell with Rhinestone Cowboy. Not a bad song:

Killing TV Network Owners: Halal
T.V. station owners join the long list of people the spilling of who's blood is licit according to the holy men of Islam. AFP:
A senior Saudi cleric has issued a religious decree saying the owners of television networks broadcasting "depravation and debauchery" may be killed, Al-Arabiya television reported on Friday.
"The owners of these channels propagate depravation and debauchery," said Saleh al-Luhaidan, chief justice of the supreme judicial council, the highest judicial authority in the ultra-conservative Saudi kingdom.
He made the remarks on radio in response to a caller who asked him to give an opinion on what he said were "immoral" programmes on Arab television during the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, a source at Al-Arabiya said.
"It is lawful to kill ... the apostles of depravation... if their evil cannot be easily removed through simple sanctions," Luhaidan said, according to excerpt of the remarks broadcast on the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya.
The situation is "serious ... the degradation of morals is a form of perversion on earth," he added.
During Ramadan, when Muslims must fast from dawn to dusk, Arab satellite televisions broadcast lavish productions, including soap operas and mini-series, some with historical and religious themes, as well as game shows.
A popular soap that was broadcast by Al-Arabiya for several weeks preceding Ramadan already stirred passions in Saudi Arabia, where the grand mufti branded it "subversive" and "anti-Islamic."
Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh, head of Saudi Arabia's highest religious authority, earlier this year issued a fatwa against "Noor" and decreed that any channel broadcasting the series is "an enemy of God and his Prophet."
The Turkish-made soap opera dubbed into Arabic tells the story of Mohannad and his equally stunning wife Noor as they wrestle to reconcile the conflicting pressures of traditional and modern worlds...
