Pictured: Islamic militants stone man to death for adultery in Somalia as villagers are forced to watch

From The Daily Mail
This barbaric scene belongs in the Dark Ages, but pictures emerged today of a group of Islamic militants who forced villagers to watch as they stoned a man to death for adultery.

Mohamed Abukar Ibrahim, a 48-year-old, was buried in a hole up to his chest and pelted with rocks until he died.
The executions took place yesterday in Afgoye, some 20 miles south-west of the capital of Mogadishu.
Hizbul Islam fighters ordered hundreds of residents to a field, where a rebel judge announced that the two men had confessed to murder and adultery.
A woman who had confessed to fornication had been sentenced to 100 lashes, he added.
'This is their day of justice,' the judge, Osman Siidow Hasan, told the crowd. 'We investigated and they confessed.'
But when some Hizbul Islam fighters wanted to delay the executions, a bloody gun battle broke out between the two factions, shocked residents said.
The executions were the first time that Hizbul Islam guerillas had dealt out the type of punishments usually associated with the more hardline al Shabaab rebel group in Somalia.
The U.S. claims that al Shabaab is al Qaeda's proxy in the failed Horn of Africa state. That rival Islamic groups are beginning to align their practices with al Shabaab is a chilling twist in the already frightening militancy that is gripping the country.

A Bishop in want of bashing.

Bishop Stephen Venner wasn't the best choice for Bishop to the Forces after he retired early as Suffragan Bishop of Dover.
The report in the Kentish Gazette of his retirement speech last month has been much abridged on line since the first publication.
He was reported then (this is a google cache) thus

Stephen Venner the outgoing Bishop of the Diocese of Canterbury and Dover, has spoken of his sadness at the lack of people in churches.
Dr Venner was delivering his final sermon at Eucharist in the Cathedral on Saturday before he moves to Rochester to devote himself to being Bishop to the Forces.
He told the congregation: “One of the things that saddens me is going into church after church and seeing the postcards and pictures of church buildings and not seeing a single human being inside them.
“The churchyards are empty, the insides are empty.
“Yet the brochures talk about the restoration and the work being on them, but without people there is little value in them.”
His farewell service saw hundreds of people gather to listen to the final sermon as well as sing and pray as they celebrated Eucharist, the re-enactment of the Last Supper when a table of bread and wine is prepared.

It speaks volumes of the state of the land, spiritually and intellectually, when an English newspaper in England feels the need to explain what the Eucharist is to its readers.
But I’m not surprised his churches are empty when he comes out with this as his first important statement as the newly appointed Bishop to the Forces. A post not to be confused with the Bishop for the Forces which is the Roman Catholic office. Bishop Richard Moth is also a new appointment but if this interview is anything to go be the RC man has a bit more sense. Praise be.
Venner is also Bishop of the Falklands. He needs to make a long slow pastoral visit.
I know that the soldiers have a higher opinion of the fighting ability of the taliban than they have of the 'Afghan Army' they work alongside; this is not the same as admiring a group who ill treat women and use children as suicide bombers.
Damian Thompson can be funny and because of his forthright views on Islam I find Christian forgiveness for him when he (frequently) snipes at the Church of England. In this instance he is right. I do despair of my own church’s leaders sometimes.
He puts Bishop Venner’s words into the context of another war.

Bishop Venner stressed his admiration for the sacrifices made by the Allied forces fighting in Europe but also urged the need for a reassessment of how the Nazis are viewed.
“We’ve been too simplistic in our attitude towards the Nazis,” said Bishop Venner, who was recently commissioned in his new role by Dr Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury.
“There’s a large number of things that the Nazis say and stand for which none of us in Britain could approve, but simply to say therefore that everything they do is bad is not helping the situation because it’s not honest really.
“The Nazis can perhaps be admired for their conviction to their faith and their sense of loyalty to each other.”

That would have been treason then. Haven’t our troops got enough to contend with?

Christmas Carols I

The Twelve Days of Christmas:

Although, and I love to be a pedant, in the fourth stanza it is not ‘calling birds’ but more correctly ‘collie birds’ – blackbirds that is, a plentiful food source when this roundalay was originally penned, and therefore a most useful gift. The ‘four-and-twenty blackbirds baked in a pie’ from the old nursery rhyme Sing a Song of Sixpence refers to the same food source.

On the first day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree.

On the second day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the third day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fourth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Four collie birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fifth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Five golden rings,
Four collie birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the sixth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four collie birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the seventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four collie birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eighth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four collie birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the ninth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four collie birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the tenth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four collie birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eleventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four collie birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the twelfth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Twelve drummers drumming,
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four collie birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree!

Symbolically ‘the partridge in a pear tree’ is Christ on the Cross, the ‘two turtle doves’ (a bird which mates for life) symbolise the eternal love of God,

‘French hens’ are Nuns (and that term for a Nun persists in the more rural parts of England up until these modern times) and symbolise the union of these ladies with Christ for they are the brides of Christ and northern French hens usually had black and white colourations similar to a Nuns habits and were introduced into England by the Normans after the conquest in 1066AD but it’s equally as likely that the ‘two French hens’are meant to represent the two major Testaments.

The ‘collie birds’ I’ve already mentioned (above) and their black colouring was seen as demure and pure and the flash of orange of the beak as symbolic of Christ’s dried blood staining the habit. They also refer to the four Gospels.

‘Five golden rings’ refers to the ring-necked pheasant which is a Christian symbol for one who seeks spiritual (or pure) love – and this is an ancient symbol which can be traced all the way back to the tale of Jason and the Argonauts by the way. The ‘golden rings’ also refer to the Pentateuch.

Six geese a-laying’ is also very ancient symbolism – the goose was the very first wild bird to be domesticated by mankind and was, until very recently, the bird of choice for the Christmas feast (it’s still my preference and a good, fat green goose is the bird which R-------, my partner, and I will be eating this coming Christmas Day) – and the Christian symbolism is very complicated, and very ancient, indeed (and the symbolism of this bird pre-dates Christianity by many thousands of years, as well). Aesop had the fable of the goose which laid golden eggs in his collection of folk tales which he compiled twenty-five centuries ago in ancient Greece as I’m sure that you are all aware. However, the tale is far older than the clever moral compilation by Aesop and can be traced back to the cult of Thoth in ancient Egypt about thirty-four centuries ago. Thoth, so it is said, laid the egg from which Ra, or Atum or Nefertum or Khepri or whatever one wants to call them, emerged as an ibis and that tale of ancient gods is generally reckoned to have emerged from the folk memory of the domestication of geese by early man not too many centuries before it was first written down by the ancient Egyptians as the legend of Thoth in order to justify his position in the pantheon.

Now, the Thothic tradition persisted in Egypt throughout the many dynasties and became incorporated in a debased form into the very early, and I stress the ‘early’ (and the ‘very’), traditions of Coptic Christianity as a legend of the beginning of all things rather than the classical Christian version – a fairytale if you will – and Valentius, an Alexandrian gnostic theologian who lived sometime between 90AD to 170AD, incorporated much of the Thothic tradition into his works. The Valentinian gnostic heresy persisted for many centuries and it’s generally accepted that the ‘six geese a-laying’ derives from that source and refers to our ancient Christian past and the defeat of heresy. Bear in mind that the ‘six’ can also be taken to refer to the six days of creation.

‘Seven swans a-swimming’ – seven (the great and magical prime number reckoned by some to be the first true prime) coupled with swans. The swan is the symbol of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of Christ, and also, from ancient times, a symbol of purity and of the unknown and of unions which last a lifetime, and of, of course, the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

‘Eight maids a-milking’ is quite simply a bawdy reference and has everything to with lactation and breasts and the desire felt by men for fecund women but it is much more likely that it refers to the eight beatitudes and the huge feeling of fulfilment gained by observing them.

‘Nine ladies dancing’ refers to the nine Fruits (not to be confused with the Gifts at seven) of the Holy Ghost.

The ‘ten Lords a-leaping’ calls to mind the great Morris dancing traditions of England born from the Saxon traditions of boozy and spiritual dancing but the ‘ten Lords’ are generally meant to represent the ten commandments.

‘Eleven pipers piping’ are the eleven faithful Apostles – Peter (the Rock), Andrew, James (son of Zebedee), John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (son of Alpheus), Thaddeus and Simon The Zealot, but not Judas the Iscariot who was the twelfth Apostle but not faithful and betrayed our Master.

The ‘twelve drummers drumming’ is a very obvious reference to the twelve doctrinal points in the Apostles Creed – the Symbolum Apostolorum or Symbolum Apostolicum – which is sometimes called the ‘Symbol of the Apostles’:

I believe in G-d the Father Almighty
Maker of heaven and earth (1),
And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord (2),
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary (3),
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried (4),
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead (5);
He ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of G-d the Father Almighty (6);
From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead (7).
I believe in the Holy Ghost (8);
The Holy Catholic Church and
The Communion of Saints (9);
The Forgiveness of sins (10);
The Resurrection of the body (11),
And the Life everlasting (12).
(Amen).

On that great statement of Faith (a statement I make and affirm several times every week) – a faith that I believe in and will defend to my last dying breath if I have to – I take my leave of you, having, I hope, demonstrated just how deep, ancient and complex the Judeo-Christian culture which we defend actually is.

And sometimes just how silly faith can actually be.
But then, I’m C. of E. and everyone knows that G-d is an Englishman! Isn’t He?

Iran Testing Nuke Trigger

Catherine Philp writes in The Times:

Confidential intelligence documents obtained by The Times show that Iran is working on testing a key final component of a nuclear bomb.

The notes, from Iran’s most sensitive military nuclear project, describe a four-year plan to test a neutron initiator, the component of a nuclear bomb that triggers an explosion. Foreign intelligence agencies date them to early 2007, four years after Iran was thought to have suspended its weapons programme.

An Asian intelligence source last week confirmed to The Times that his country also believed that weapons work was being carried out as recently as 2007 — specifically, work on a neutron initiator.

The technical document describes the use of a neutron source, uranium deuteride, which independent experts confirm has no possible civilian or military use other than in a nuclear weapon. Uranium deuteride is the material used in Pakistan’s bomb, from where Iran obtained its blueprint.

“Although Iran might claim that this work is for civil purposes, there is no civil application,” said David Albright, a physicist and president of the Institute for Science and International Security in Washington, which has analysed hundreds of pages of documents related to the Iranian programme. “This is a very strong indicator of weapons work.”

The documents have been seen by intelligence agencies from several Western countries, including Britain. A senior source at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that they had been passed to the UN’s nuclear watchdog.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said yesterday: “We do not comment on intelligence, but our concerns about Iran’s nuclear programme are clear. Obviously this document, if authentic, raises serious questions about Iran’s intentions.” ...

It raises quesitons about the sanity of Western wishful thinking about Iran's intentions. Their intentions have been clear all along.

Carter: Southern Baptists and Catholics Worst Offenders Against Women

LifeSiteNews (hat tip: Maggie's Farm):

MELBOURNE, December 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In an address to a gathering sponsored by the World Parliament of Religions (PWR) last Friday, former US President Jimmy Carter has once again blamed traditional religion, particularly Southern Baptists and Roman Catholics, for "creating an environment where violations against women are justified."

It is a theme that Carter has successfully used to garner media attention for several years.

Although in a July column in The Observer Carter admits to "not having training in religion or theology," in his address to the PWR Carter appeals to his authority as someone who has "taught Bible lessons for more than 65 years."

In opposition to the vast majority of authentic scholars and historians, Carter asserted: "It's clear that during the early Christian era women served as deacons, priests, bishops, apostles, teachers and prophets."  He added: "It wasn't until the 4th century or the 3rd at the earliest that dominant Christian leaders, all men, twisted and distorted Holy Scriptures to perpetuate their ascendant position within the religious hierarchy."

Contrary to the theorizing of Carter, Pope John Paul II taught, "The Lord Jesus chose men to form the college of the twelve apostles, and the apostles did the same when they chose collaborators to succeed them in their ministry."  He added: "the Church recognizes herself to be bound by this choice made by the Lord himself.  For this reason the ordination of women is not possible." (Catechism of the Catholic Church; 1577)

Carter singled out the Southern Baptist Convention and Roman Catholic Church, claiming that they "view that the Almighty considers women to be inferior to men."  However, both Christian faiths hold to the Scriptural truth that God created men and women equal.

Carter suggests that only in permitting women to become priests and pastors could male religious leaders choose to interpret teachings to exalt rather than subjugate women.  "They have, for their own selfish ends, overwhelmingly chosen the latter, subjugation," he said.

"Their continuing choice provides a foundation or justification for much of the pervasive persecution and abuse of women throughout the world," said Carter. Carter goes on to list horrific violations against women such as rape, genital mutilation, abortion of female embryos and spousal battery.

Responding to Carter's nearly identical points in July, John Paul Meenan, Professor of Theology at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy in Barry's Bay, Ontario characterized Carter's points as "ridiculous," noting that there was no evidence of the ordination of women in the early Church.

Moreover, Meenan stressed that historically Christianity ought to be credited for promoting the dignity of women.  "It is the Church that invariably improved the lot of women in the lands that were converted and Christianized," he said.

Of course the obvious criticism of Carter's statement is his usual failure to criticise Islam, under which the position of women is truly hopeless. However, I think there is quite a bit of evidence that Jesus' attitude toward women was far ahead of his time and if not for the influence of Paul and others in the early Church, women under Christianity would have risen to equality much earlier. As it is, because our status was so hard won, we should cherish it all the more and insist that practises degrading to women such as polygamy and forced marriage be banished forever from our land.

Honour killing?

The BBC radio news this morning managed to report the murder of a Muslim woman without once mentioning that she was a Muslim or even an "Asian". The Times just about gets there It seems pretty clear that she was murdered for bringing shame on the "Asian" - that is Muslim - "community":

An Asian agony aunt may have been murdered after intervening in the affairs of a family, it was suggested yesterday.

Nasim Jamil was bludgeoned to death last week and her body was found by her daughter in the flat they shared in the West End of Glasgow.

Mrs Jamil, 54, who presented Yadoon Ka Phool on Awaz FM, used the programme to help to solve the personal problems of listeners who wrote to her or called the show live to ask for her advice.

On her presenter profile, on the station's website, she said it was her dream to reunite families and claimed she had been successful in at least five cases.

Mohammed Sarwar, the Muslim MP for Glasgow Central, said there was talk among the city's Asian community that her intervention in family disputes could have made her a target.

"That is what people are suggesting," he said. "I have spoken to people in my constituency and my own gut feeling is grievances between families she dealt with could have led to this."

Mr Sarwar has his own experience of intervening in family affairs. In 1996, he rescued two Glasgow sisters forced into an arranged marriage by their father and ten years later helped to mediate in the legal tussle between the parents of Misbah Rana, also known as Molly Campbell, who left the island of Lewis to live in Pakistan. The MP said emotions could run high in the community during confrontations.

"Problems between husband and wife can have very serious implications and I have been involved in some very intense situations involving families in the community. If there were issues between them, it would be they were the most serious kind. There could be some ill feelings in some quarters," he said.

Anybody in the community with information that could help detectives should come forward, he said. "Whatever, or whoever can help should go to the police. I am sure with the backing of the community the police will find whoever has committed this crime."

Mr Sarwar's comments came as a former colleague of Mrs Jamil, who insisted on remaining anonymous, said he had been forced to abandon his radio show after being threatened for discussing controversial issues such as domestic violence on air.

Hizb ut Tahrir To Hold Another Event Near Chicago

This story comes to us from RealCourage.com (with thanks to Jeffrey Imm):

Once again, another village in the Chicago suburbs will be the target of a public event by the anti-democracy, Islamic supremacist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir on Sunday, December 20 – this time using a government-managed community center in Lombard, Illinois.

Hizb ut-Tahrir is an extreme group that is opposed to democracy and religious freedom, has called for the killing of Jews, recently called whipping of homosexuals and stonings to combat AIDS, has reportedly called for the murder of a university official in Bangladesh, and in July distributed pamphlets in Chicago’s Oak Lawn suburb calling for the “death penalty” for those who leave Islam.   Hizb ut-Tahrir  is an international organization that according to a former member Ed Husain, Hizb ut-Tahrir calls for an “expansionist, violent, totalitarian Islamist state.”  According to BBC and the Daily Telegraph, Hizb ut-Tahrir has been linked to calls for killing Jews and Hindus, radicalizing individuals to become suicide bombers, and according to the New Statesman has been linked to high-level terrorists.

Hizb ut-Tahrir's Banner: The Flag of the Islamic Supremacist "Caliphate"

Hizb ut-Tahrir America is holding its latest group event in the Chicago suburban village of Lombard, Illinois on the subject “Crisis in Pakistan – Current Events & Future Direction.” Hizb ut-Tahrir America opposes the Pakistan government’s military efforts against the Islamic supremacist Taliban terrorists in Waziristan, which is a primary haven for both the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

In July, the London Times reported on British members of Hizb ut-Tahrir that had been incited to go to Pakistan to seek to influence Pakistan military members and others to instigate a “coup” against the current Pakistan government.  The London Times report described how Hizb ut-Tahrir members’ “aim was to subject Muslim and western countries to Islamic rule under sharia law, ‘by force’ if necessary”… where ” ‘every woman would have to cover up’ and stoning to death for adultery and the chopping off of thieves’ hands would be the law, he said.”  The London Times report added that Hizb ut-Tahrir aims of “Islamic rule would be spread through ‘indoctrination’ and by ‘military means’ if non-Muslim countries refused to bow to it. ‘Waging war’ would be part of the caliphate’s foreign policy.”

Those seeking to be involved in violent Jihad have been drawn to Pakistan, with five Americans from the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington DC arrested in Pakistan last week; according to CBS News, they sought to promote “jihad.” Hizb ut-Tahrir Pakistan’s manifesto calls for all male children at age 15 to get military “Jihad training” (page 37).

While the village of Lombard is promoting “Peace,” Hizb ut-Tahrir America seeks to use Lombard community facilities to incite Americans in Chicago with its Islamic supremacist perspective of events in Pakistan.  Unlike July 2009, when Hizb ut-Tahrir America rented a private facility (Holiday Inn in Oak Lawn, IL), this time Hizb ut-Tahrir will be renting space from a public building from the Village of Lombard Parks District (similar to Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada’s  approach in Mississauga, Canada in July 2009.)

Hizb ut-Tahrir America has rented the Lombard Community Building at 433 East St. Charles Road for their December 20, 2009 event from 5:00 to 6:30 PM Central Time.  We are certain that the Village of Lombard Parks District and Lombard Government has no idea who and what Hizb ut-Tahrir is, nor would they even think to inquire.  We urge readers to contact the Lombard government and media to make them aware of this...

Saudi School Planned For Dublin

From the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report:

Islam Online is reporting on plans to build a Saudi school in Dublin, Ireland. According to the report:

Saudi plans to build a school in Ireland to meet the education needs of expatriate Saudis is meeting mixed reactions in the north-western European country. “…..Riyadh has announced plans to build a school in Dublin to serve the Saudi and Muslim community…..There are estimated 15 Saudi families in Ireland in addition to more than 400 Saudi nationals studying in the country. There are two Muslim primary schools in Dublin. Irish Muslims hope that the new school would offer secondary education. (If true, this would achieve) a long-cherished Muslim ambition,” said Ali Selim, an Egyptian-born theologian at the Islamic Cultural Centre in Clonskeagh…But the school plan has sparked concerns in the European country. A Saudi national in Ireland argues that similar Saudi schools in different cities worldwide have caused controversies over alleged intolerant textbooks….Ireland is home to some 33,000 Muslims, making up about 1 percent of the total population, according to the 2006 census.

Previous posts have discussed the controversy surrounding a Saudi-financed Islamic school in Northern Virginia which has used textbooks containing passages were anti-Semitic, intolerant of various Muslim groups, and which advocated violence against those who convert from Islam. The Virginia academy is one of 20 international Saudi schools around the world which are often attended by children of leaders of the global Muslim Brotherhood.

For example, according to German TV reports the King Fahd Academy in Germany, another Saudi financed academy, maintained contact with the local Muslim Brotherhood organization and its registration papers indicated that in the event of its closure, its assets would revert to them. The King Fahd Academy was also accused of various forms of extremism including teaching hatred of Jews and Christians.

See also Jerry Gordon's report on the Saudi Academy in Virginia.
