"Chelm on the Charles River" spreads across America: the follies of Jewish Muslim dialogue
We have written a long article on the delusion of Jewish Muslim dialogue in Boston to be published in the August edition of the New English Review. It is called “Chelm on the Charles River,” a send up on the children’s fairy tales of foolish Jews in a mythical 19th century Polish shtetl written by Nobel Laureate, the later Isaac Beshevis Singer. The NER piece chronicles members of the Boston rabbinate and several community leaders who formed dialogue groups with Muslim Brotherhood fronts like the Muslim American Society (MAS). The MAS Boston chapter backed the Saudi financed Islamic Society of Boston Mosque and Cultural center. At the conclusion of our NER piece we implied that delusions of the foolish Jews in Boston would soon visit other locales. It has, as detailed in a Washington Times article, “Rabbis, Imams visit U.S. for dialogue.” Effectively, the delusions and follies of Chelm on the Charles River are spreading across America up to and including the White House. This time it is the Muslim Brotherhood front group, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) that figures in the shenanigans afoot.
Note this from the Washington Times report:
A group of 28 imams and rabbis from 10 European countries arrived in New York and Washington this week for whirlwind visits to interfaith centers to break new ground on Muslim-Jewish relations and combat Islamophobia and anti-Semitism in each other's communities.
They will receive instructions from teams of American rabbis and imams who will show the Europeans how American-style ecumenism works on the ground. It's the first visit of its kind to involve foreign Muslim and Jewish leaders coming to the U.S., where interreligious ties have a much longer history and track record of success.
"Our success in America has given us the faith and confidence to reach out to Europe," said Sayyid Mohammad Syeed, national director of interfaith and community alliances for the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), one of three hosts for the visit.
The impetus for the five-day visit came after "exponential" growth of anti-Semitism among Muslims in Britain, France and elsewhere in Europe, said Rabbi Marc Schneier, president of the New York-based Foundation for Ethnic Understanding (FFEU) and chairman of the World Jewish Congress American Section.
"We want to help strengthen those in the Islamic world who are projecting this voice of moderation and to help them take their religion back from the cadre of extremists and fanatics in Islam," he said.
This Jewish Muslim Dialogue starts off today in Manhattan with visits to the Islamic Center on the upper East Side followed by a ball game at Yankee Stadium. Tuesday there are visits to Ellis Island, 9/11 ground zero and a meeting with a Muslim New York City Councilman. Wednesday the dialogue contingent busses to DC to visit the Holocaust Museum, meet with Interfaith Rabbi Jack Moline (Rahm Emanuel’s rabbi) at Cong. Agudas Achim in Alexandria, Virginia and Imam Mohamed Magid of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society Mosque in Sterling. There are Capitol Hill tours followed by meetings with two Muslim congressmen, Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Andre Carson (D-IN) and Jewish Congressmen, Jerold Nadler (D-NY)of Manhattan’s West Side and Robert Wexler (D-FL). Wednesday night the ISNA throws a dinner at which Rabbi Gerry Serotta of Rabbis for Human Rights and Georgetown U. Imam Yahya Hindi speak at the suburban All Dulles Area Muslim Society. Thursday the group’s finale includes a morning session at the White House with Obama’s Faith based and Neighborhood Partnerships coordinator, Joshua Dubois. The group is then bussed to the Saudi embassy for lunch and flies home to Eurabia. A veritable whirlwind tour.
All of this sounds constructive, but as Dr. Richard L. Rubenstein commented in an email: “it is a fraud.” The reason is the Islamic Quranic canon espouses xenophobic anti-Semitism and hatred of “the other” meaning Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, B’hai and Zoroastrians. This hatred has fomented Jihad down through the centuries. It is what killed 3,000 on 9/11 at ground zero in lower Manhattan, the courageous passengers on Flight 93 in Southwestern Pennsylvania and the Flight 77 passengers including service personnel and civilians at the Pentagon.
FFEU Jewish Muslim outreach is an aggressive version of the delusional Jewish Muslim outreach by the Boston rabbinate chronicled in the forthcoming NER article “Chelm on the Charles River.”
Two years ago, the FFEU ventured into Muslim-Jewish relations, convening a summit of rabbis and imams in New York in November 2007. They combined forces for a public service announcement on CNN in early 2008 that denounced both Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.
On a weekend in November 2008, they "twinned" 50 mosques and synagogues in cities across the country to encourage mutual visits and partnerships. A second such weekend is planned this year for Nov. 13-15.
"We received calls from faith leaders in England, Sweden and Australia who want to take part in that," Mr. Schneier said. He organized this week's visit, which, he added, is costing the FFEU about $150,000.
While we wish Rabbi Schneier well on this fast paced program for European Rabbis and Imams, the reality is that without any fundamental change in the Islamic Quranic Canon, like the rabbinate in Boston, they will look like the foolish Jews in Chelm leading their congregants astray.

Saudi Arabian princess seeks asylum in Britain over illegitimate child
From The Telegraph
A Saudi Arabian princess who had an illegitimate child with a British man has successfully sought asylum in Britain after claiming she would face the death penalty if she went home
The woman, who has been granted anonymity, is married to an elderly member of the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia and met her non-Muslim English boyfriend during a visit to London.
She became pregnant the following year and persuaded her husband to let her return to the UK so she could give birth in secret.
She has now become one of a handful of Saudi citizens to apply to the UK courts for asylum. Such cases are not generally acknowledged by the British government for fear that highlighting the persecution of women in the strict Muslim nation would strain relations with the House of Saud.
The woman told the Immigration and Asylum Tribunal that she could be liable to death by stoning under Sharia law if she returned, or face an honour killing.
Since she fled her home country, her husband's family and her own, independently wealthy family, have broken off contact with her.
The Home Office has declined to discuss the case, which was first reported in The Independent. The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia also failed to comment in time for the paper's deadline.
But it serves as further evidence that the Gulf state of Saudi Arabia, which is home to around 30,000 Britons, is still lagging behind in its approach to human rights.

New Home Secretary Reverses Savage Ban
WASHINGTON – Radio talker Michael Savage told WND he was "stunned" by the quick decision by incoming United Kingdom Home Secretary Alan Johnson to scrap his predecessor's list of people banned from Britain – a list that included Savage along with Islamic hate preachers and terrorists.
Savage had sued outgoing Home Secretary Jacqui Smith for libel for listing him, along with 15 others, as "least wanted" visitors in the country. Meanwhile, Smith's successor, Alan Johnson, called the move a terrible blunder and told the London Daily Mail he would scrap the policy of maintaining such enemies lists.
"I am stunned by this sudden sign of sanity in the U.K. government," Savage told WND. "But I won't believe it until they send a letter to me confirming it."
Savage said he also demands an apology from Smith.
Johnson said Smith had no right to put Savage, the third highest rated radio talker in America, on the same list as a former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard, a skinhead gang leader and a Hezbollah militant.
Last week, Jacqui Smith admitted she was not up to being home secretary, saying she should have been given some training for the job before being named.
"When I became home secretary I'd never run a major organization," she told Total Politics magazine. "I hope I did a good job but if I did it was more by luck than by any kind of development of skills. I think we should have been better trained. I think there should have been more induction." ...
The question is, will Secretary Johnson apologize to Geert Wilders?

Top 10 excuses for not wearing Hijab
From The Gulf Times - Qatar's best selling English language - or so they say and I have no reason to doubt them.
Get on the train of repentance my sister, before it passes by your station. Deeply consider my sister, what is happening today before tomorrow comes. Think, my sister - starting now.
This is Dr Huwayda Ismaeel talking, just in case you were wondering. I think she must be a Dr of islam not medecine of philosophy.
I send prayers and ask for blessings upon His Noble Messenger who drew the path for us to the pleasure of Allah and His Jannah. This path is a straight one that is surrounded by virtue from all sides and attends to the best moral characteristics which are increased by the clothing of purity, concealment, and chastity.
This is precisely why the Protector, the blessed and above all imperfection, has made wearing Hijab an obligation upon the woman as a safeguard of her chastity and protection of her honour and sign of her faith (Eemaan). It is on account of this that societies (both Muslim and non-Muslim) that have distanced themselves from the way of Allah and deviated from His straight path, are ill societies in need of treatment that will lead them to recovery and happiness.
We put this question to a varied group of women from whom we derived 10 major excuses and upon examination and scrutiny, the frailty of the excuses became evident to us.
Stay with us dear Muslim sister in these few lines so that we can know through them the reasons for turning away from the Hijab and then discuss each.
Excuse One: I’m not yet convinced (of the necessity) of Hijab.
We then ask this sister two questions.
One: Is she truly convinced of the correctness of the religion of Islam? The natural answer is: Yes . . .
Two: Is the Hijab then a part of Islamic Law (Shari’ah) and an obligation?
If this sister is honest and sincere in her intention and has looked into the issue as one who truly wants to know the truth her answer could only be: Yes. . .
In summary: If this sister is convinced of Islam, how then can she not be convinced of its orders?
I am convinced of Islamic dress but my mother prevents me from wearing it and if I disobey her I will go to the Fire.
Obedience to parents is not limited except in one aspect, and that is if they order to disobedience of Allah.
That is interesting in that there are older women who do not want their daughters wearing the hibab. Presumably they remember the last struggle to throw off the veil.
Excuse Four: It is so very hot in my country and I can’t stand it. How could I take it if I wore the Hijab?
Allah gives an example by saying: Say: The Fire of Hell is more intense in heat if they only understand. [Surah At-Taubah 9:81]
How can you compare the heat of your land to the heat of the Hellfire?
Know, my sister, that Shaitaan has trapped you in one of his feeble ropes to drag you from the heat of this world to the heat of the Hellfire. Free yourself from his net and view the heat of the sun as a favor and not an affliction especially in that it reminds you of the intensity of the punishment of Allah which is many times greater than the heat you now feel. Return to the order of Allah and sacrifice this worldly comfort in the way of following the path of salvation from the Hellfire about which Allah says: They will neither feel coolness nor have any drink except that of boiling water and the discharge of dirty wounds.[Surah An-Naba’ 78:24-25]
I have heard that one given in England - by the mother in Wife Swap and a small girl interviewed in an islamic school.
Excuse Seven: I don’t wear Hijab based on what Allah says: And proclaim the grace of your Rabb [Surah Ad-Dhuhaa 93:11] How can I cover what Allah has blessed me with of silky soft hair and captivating beauty?
So...this sister of ours adheres to the Book of Allah and its commands as long as they coincide with her personal desires and understanding! She leaves behind those matters when they don’t please her.
Excuse Eight: I know that Hijab is obligatory (waajib), but I will wear it when Allah guides me to do so.
We ask this sister on what plans or steps she will undertake until she accepts this divine guidance?
Has this sister of ours seriously endeavoured to seek true guidance and exerted the proper means to get it . . . She would then adhere to the orders of Allah and wear the Hijab that the believing women are commanded to wear.
Dont listen to God when he speaks in answer to prayer, do as we say instead, in other words.
Excuse Nine: It’s not time for that yet. I’m still too young for wearing Hijab. I’ll do it when I get older and after I make Haj!
The Angel of Death my sister, is visiting and waiting at your door for the order of Allah ta’aala to open it on you at any moment in your life.
My sister, you should race to obedience along with those others who race to answer the call of Allah . . . Sister, don’t forget Allah or He will forget you by turning His mercy away from you in this life and the next.
My sister wear the Hijab in your young age in opposition to the sinful deed because Allah is intense in punishment and will ask you on the Day of Resurrection about your youth and every moment of your life.
Excuse Ten: I’m afraid that if I wear Islamic clothing that I’ll be labeled as belonging to some group or another and I hate partisanship.
My sister in Islam, there are only two parties in Islam, and they are both mentioned by Allah Almighty in His Noble Book. The first party is the party of of Allah (hizbullah) that He gives victory to because of their obedience to His commands and staying away from what He has forbidden. The second party is the party of the accursed Shaitaan (hizbush-Shaitaan) which disobeys the Most Merciful and increase corruption in the earth. When you hold tight to and adhere to the commands of Allah, and among them is wearing the Hijab - you then become a part of the successful party of Allah.
So we are right to view the wearing of the hijab as a political statement to raise the visible profile of islam.
Your body is on display in the market of Shaitaan seducing the hearts of men.The hairstyles, the tight clothing showing every detail of your figure, the short dresses showing off your legs and feet, the showy, decorative and fragrant clothing all angers the Merciful and pleases the Shaitaan. Every day that passes while you are in this condition, distances you further from Allah and brings you closer to Shaitaan. Each day curses and anger are directed toward you from the heavens until you repent. Every day brings you closer to the grave and the Angel of Death is ready to capture your soul.
Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full.
Get on the train of repentance my sister, before it passes by your station. Deeply consider my sister, what is happening today before tomorrow comes. Think about it, my sister - Now, before it is too late!
This amount of threats and pressure to impose the wearing of hijab makes a mock of the claims from all the assorted imams that girls and women wear it voluntarily. All these so called reasons only strengthens my opinion that the hijab should not be part of school uniform, nurses or public service uniform or part of the workplace dress code for banks, offices and shops. Further that the burka and niquab should be banned in public completely.
Turbans, sheitels and kippots are not imposed by that level of emotional blackmail and threats of hellfire, or sexual inferiority.

The Post and Abu Zubaydah: Ali Soufan Exposed
Marc Thiessen has an interesting post at the Corner that questions the veracity of a former FBI agent, a Muslim named Ali Soufan, who has been writing op-eds and giving testimony before Congress about how torture doesn't work. ZTruth has some background on Soufan:
Soufan left the FBI in 2005. He is a naturalized American citizen and a Muslim. He then went to work for Rudy Giuliani's firm, Giuliani Partners. ABC reported in November 2007 that Soufan was the firm's liaison to the Qatar royal family:
"...The firm's liaison with the royal family is Ali Soufan, an Arabic-speaking former FBI agent who investigated the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole and is currently the international director of GS&S, security consultants with knowledge of the contracts told ABC News..."
On March 29, the Washington Post published a front-page story called “Detainee’s Harsh Treatment Foiled No Plots,” in which staff reporters Joby Warrick and Peter Finn declared that “not a single significant plot was foiled as a result of Abu Zubaida's tortured confessions.”
Although they don’t call it that, Warrick and Finn have published what amounts to a full retraction on the front page of the Post this morning.
They write: “Although Abu Zubaydah was not a member of al Qaeda and had limited relations with bin Laden, he was a font of information on the membership of the terrorist group because of his long standing ties with [Khalid Sheikh] Mohammed and North African jihadists” (emphasis added). He became this “font of information” after the use of enhanced interrogation techniques.
Moreover, they acknowledge that Zubaydah provided information that led to the capture of al-Qaeda terrorist Jose Padilla only after enhanced interrogation techniques were employed. (Padilla was captured as he arrived in Chicago on a mission from Khalid Shiekh Mohammed, or KSM, to carry out terrorist attacks in the U.S.)
This contradicts the assertions of FBI agent Ali Soufan, who claims that he got the information about Padilla from Zubaydah before enhanced interrogation techniques were applied by the CIA. Writing in the New York Times in April of this year, Soufan wrote: “Along with another F.B.I. agent, and with several C.I.A. officers present, I questioned [Zubaydah] from March to June 2002, before the harsh techniques were introduced later in August. Under traditional interrogation methods, he provided us with important actionable intelligence. We discovered, for example, that Khalid Shaikh Mohammed was the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. Abu Zubaydah also told us about Jose Padilla, the so-called dirty bomber.”
This last statement, it turns out, is a flat lie. According to today’s Post, Zubaydah did give up the information about KSM before enhanced interrogations began. Then a CIA team took over and began implementing enhanced interrogation techniques, including forced nudity and sleep deprivation. After this, the Post reports today: “Agency officials decided to let the FBI back into the interrogations, but on the condition that forced nudity and sleep deprivation be allowed to continue. . . . Under FBI questioning, Abu Zubaydah indentified an operative he knew as Abdullah al-Mujahir, the alias, he said, of an American citizen with a Latino name. An investigation involving multiple agencies identified the suspect as Jose Padilla, the al Qaeda operative later convicted of providing material support for terrorism. ‘In two different bits, after sleep deprivation, is when Abu Zubaydah gave clues about who Padilla might be.’”
In other words, contrary to Soufan’s assertion in the Times, he only got the information that led to Padilla after the CIA began to implement enhanced interrogation techniques.
Padilla is often dismissed as the man behind a fanciful “dirty bomb” plot, and the Post notes today that he was convicted of “material support for terrorism.” In fact Padilla was a protégé of al-Qaeda’s third in command, Mohammed Atef, who had been sent to America by KSM to carry out a much more sinister and realistic attack on America — a plot to simultaneously blow up apartment buildings using natural gas. He trained for this mission in al-Qaeda camps, and was given $10,000 by KSM and his right-hand man, Ammar al-Baluchi, to carry it out. The night before his departure for America, KSM, Ammar, and KSM’s nephew and 9/11 plotter Ramzi bin al Shibh hosted a farewell dinner for Padilla and his accomplice.
The reason he was convicted of “material support for terrorism” is because the Justice Department could not prosecute him for the full panoply of his crimes without allowing Padilla to call KSM, Ammar, and Ramzi bin al-Shibh as witnesses — thus risking the exposure of highly classified information. They chose to pursue lesser charges rather than expose sources and methods. But the full extent of Padilla’s activities was laid out in a speech by Deputy Attorney General James Comey in June 2004.
The bottom line is that today’s story in the Post proves that: 1) the original Post assertion that “not a single significant plot was foiled as a result of Abu Zubaida's tortured confessions” is flat wrong — the Padilla plot was broken up because of the CIA’s use of enhanced interrogation techniques; and 2) Ali Soufan’s assertion that he got this information before the implementation of enhanced interrogation techniques is false.
Soufan now has his own "security" firm, The Soufan Group LLC, and moved into a $1.7 million apartment in New York City last year.

A Surrealistic Delusion
The “whirlwind” program featuring a group of 28 imams and rabbis from 10 European countries who arrived for visits to interfaith centers to “break new ground” (there really isn’t any old ground) on Muslim-Jewish relations and combat Islamophobia and anti-Semitism in each other's communities is a surrealistic delusion. Practically NO decent, sane Italian-American or German-American had faith that such meetings just prior to World War II would change “the hearts and minds” of the German-American Bund or pro-Fascist organizations in America or Europe by 1939.
Rabbi Marc Schneier, president of the New York-based Foundation for Ethnic Understanding (FFEU) and chairman of the World Jewish Congress American Section is quoted as saying that “The impetus for the five-day visit came after "exponential" growth of anti-Semitism among Muslims in Britain, France and elsewhere in Europe, and "We want to help strengthen those in the Islamic world who are projecting this voice of moderation and to help them take their religion back from the cadre of extremists and fanatics in Islam,".
Had these remarks been uttered by any of the visiting imams, there might be grounds for some feeble hope but of course it was the rabbi who spoke them. His pathetic view only increases the delusions of many in the American Jewish community that the voices of “moderate American Muslims” would be heard anywhere in the wider Islamic world. All they have to do is watch several hundred videos showing Friday prayer sermons at mosques throughout much of the Arab and wider Muslim world in the archives of MEMRI-TV to gain an appreciation of how they are deluding themselves.

Minneapolis struggles with rise of Somali gangs
The Somali refugees in Minneapolis that Jerry Gordon has written about several times, including here, continue to generate mainstream news stories. Just when you thought that the Somali community couldn't offer any more multi-cultural benefits to Minneapolis, on top of training as jihadis and fighting in Somalia, or refusing to carry passengers requiring seeing-eye dogs in their taxis, or throwing stones at gays, now they are forming murderous gangs. From the AP:
MINNEAPOLIS – Ahmednur Ali's family fled the chaos and violence of their East African homeland Somalia in the 1990s, eventually making their way to Minnesota like thousands of their compatriots.
While many of the estimated 32,000 Somalis who settled in the state have struggled to adapt, Ali flourished. By age 20, he had blazed a path to Minneapolis' Augsburg College, where he played soccer, studied political science and aspired to a political career modeled on President Barack Obama's.
He was shot and killed last September outside a busy community center where he worked part-time as a youth counselor, and prosecutors said the 16-year-old accused of killing him was part of a gang.
Ali was one of seven Minneapolis-area Somali men killed over a 10-month period, and authorities believe all were killed by fellow Somalis. Police say it's too simple to tie all the killings to Somali gangs, which have lured hundreds of young community members to their ranks in recent years.
Those in the insular community willing to speak out, however, disagree.
"It was all gang activity, totally, 100 percent," said Shukri Adan, a former Somali community organizer who estimated in a 2007 report for the city that between 400 and 500 young Somalis were active in gangs. "The police don't want to say that but everybody else knows that."
Despite anger and despair over the killings in Minnesota's Somali community — the nation's largest — police and prosecutors have struggled to catch and try the killers. Few witnesses have stepped forward because of a fear of reprisal and deep-rooted distrust of authority.
More than half of Minnesota's Somalis are living in poverty, according to state statistics, and many complain that authorities are biased against Somalis because of their Islamic faith.
Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said he hoped the conviction would show local Somalis that the law is on their side, and spark new progress in closing the other cases. "We have a job to do to convince people they can trust us," he said. [Good dhimmi. It is the kufirs' responsibility to convince the Somalis to turn in murderers.]
A gang expert in California said economic and social factors are more likely to blame for the spike in gang activity than any spillover of violence from war-ravaged Somalia. [When Somalis flee Somali-on-Somali violence in Somalia, come to the U.S., and then continue to commit Somali-on-Somali violence here, it is obviously the fault of social and economic discrimination by the kufirs.]
"When there's unemployment and poverty and lack of external support, there's gangs," said Jorja Leap, a social welfare professor at the University of California Los Angeles and former gang adviser to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
And where there's Islam, there's unemployment and poverty and lack of external support.
Investigators in a separate criminal investigation have said they've also had trouble penetrating Minnesota's Somali community. The FBI is looking into the disappearance in recent years of up to 20 young Somali men, mostly from Minneapolis, believed to have been recruited into Islamist terror groups back in Somalia.
Somalis have added to the rich cultural tapestry of other communities in Dar al-Harb:
In and around Edmonton, Alberta, six young Somali men have been slain in the last six months. The leader of a small Somali outreach group there said the deaths are seen as evidence of a growing gang problem, and that they've led to better cooperation between Somalis and police.
"It seems like the community now is getting to the point where we are trying to give information to the police, and they are sharing information with us," said Mohamednur Mardowe, who heads the Brotherhood Community Support Service Association.
Police in Columbus, Ohio, which has the second largest U.S. population of Somalis, have also seen growing evidence of Somali gangs, said Sgt. Chantay Boxill.
And add Shelbyville, Tennessee to the list.

Hizb Ut-Tahrir: Shariah Takes Precedence over U.S. Constitution
IPT: Oak Lawn, Illinois- Hizb ut-Tahrir (HT), the international movement to re-establish an international Islamic state or Caliphate - kicked off a new campaign to win American recruits Sunday afternoon in this Chicago suburb. Nearly 300 people packed the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel for its Khalifah Conference on "The Fall of Capitalism and the Rise of Islam" to listen to HT ideologues blame capitalism for World War I and World War II; the U.S. subprime mortgage meltdown; the current violence in Iraq and Afghanistan; world poverty and malnutrition and inner-city drug use.
A speaker identified as Abu Atallah even blamed capitalism for the late singer Michael Jackson's decision "to shed his black skin."
Hizb ut-Tahrir aims to restore the Caliphate that existed during the Ottoman Empire in Turkey. Turkish leader Kemal Ataturk abolished it in 1924 in an effort to create a secular, Europeanized state.
Security at the conference was very tight. Oak Lawn police maintained a checkpoint outside the Hilton, and local police and HT's own security people had a substantial presence inside the hotel. In the ballroom where the conference took place, men and women were largely segregated, with men in the front and women in the back. This became a significant point of contention between HT supporters and several members of the audience who objected to this arrangement. At one point, an unidentified Hizb ut-Tahrir speaker became flustered over this line of questioning.
"Men and women," he blurted out, must be kept separate "to prevent people from behaving like animals."
A woman in the audience responded: "How does intermingling between men and women make you animals?" HT panelists didn't have a persuasive answer, and soon adjourned that session.
The conference was sometimes poorly organized. There was no list of speakers, forcing reporters to sometimes guess at the spelling of speakers' names. But HT certainly appeared to be serious about working for the larger goals of the conference: abolishing capitalism and imposing Caliphate rule over the world.
According to Hizb ut-Tahrir, the world's social and economic problems will not be fixed until the world is governed by Shariah and the government controls all major industries. Lenders would no longer be able to charge interest, which one speaker decried as a "poisonous concept." Charity, or zakat, was advertised as the way to alleviate "economic inequality."
"Secular capitalism has made me devalue my skin" and "has kept my family in ghettos," said one speaker, an African-American who went on to blame it for the fact that he smoked marijuana and his grandmother played the lottery. Capitalism, he added, is a form of economic "terrorism" and "causes us to be sent to mental hospitals." Barack Obama's presidency, he said, "is only a scheme or con" to trick people into thinking that things will get better under capitalism.
A speaker identified by conference organizers as Imam Jaleel Abdul Adil said that "if they offer us the sun, or the moon, or a nice raise, or a passport, or a house in the suburbs or even a place to pray at the job, on the condition that we stop calling for Islam as a complete way of life - we should never do that, ever do that - unless and until Islam becomes victorious or we die in the attempt." (To see the clip, click here.)
Later, the following dialogue ensued between the imam and a member of the audience over whether Shariah or the Constitution should be the supreme law of the land in the United States (click here to see the clip):
Audience member: "Would you get rid of the Constitution for Shariah, yes or no?"
Imam: "Over the Muslim world? Yes, it would be gone."
Audience Member: And so if the United States was a Muslim world, the Constitution would be gone?"
Imam: "If the United States was in the Muslim world, the Muslims who are here would be calling and happy to see the Shariah applied, yes we would."
Audience Member: "And the Constitution gone. That's all."
Imam: "Yes, as Muslims they would be long gone."
While Hizb ut-Tahrir's controversial message attracted demonstrators and some media attention, the group at least is open about its ambitions. It not only is determined to destroy capitalism -- it would shred the United States Constitution as well in favor of Shariah law.
