Normal service is resumed
Today is the first day of the rest of the year of talking like a normal person. Which includes trying to behave like a normal person.
Today I am talking normally; I will be doing the washing up shortly and then visiting my in-laws.
Iran is just a heartbeat away from the A-bomb. Last Friday the Daily Telegraph reported Teheran has surreptitiously removed a sufficient amount of uranium from its nuclear production facility in Isfahan to produce six nuclear bombs. Given Iran's already acknowledged uranium enrichment capabilities, the Telegraph's report indicates that the Islamic Republic is now in the late stages of assembling nuclear bombs.
Having had the benefit today of speaking with knowledgeable sources, Israel appears to be preparing for a military assault on Iranian nuclear and missile development facilities.
To wit: Israel Aircraft industries has apparently converted 10 747's to refueling tankers. Further, Israel is in the process of negotiating landing rights with several countries. This would avoid the matter of landing rights at either the Incerlik air base in southeastern Turkey or at US airfields in Iraq, exacerbating Iraq government concerns. Notwithstanding that, Israel and Turkey continue to hold joint air maneuvers.
My source's assessment is that Israel may undertake a strike against Iranian facilities during the 'window of opportunity' between the US elections in November and Presidential inauguration in January, 2009 akin to the comments of former US UN Ambassador Bolton.
WASHINGTON, DC – Amid disturbing revelations that the verdicts of Islamic Sharia courts are now legally binding in civil cases in the United Kingdom, U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) moved quickly today to introduce legislation designed to protect the United States from a similar fate.
According to recent news reports, a new network of Sharia courts in a half-dozen major cities in the U.K. have been empowered under British law to adjudicate a wide variety of legal cases ranging from divorces and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.
“This is a case where truth is truly stranger than fiction,” said Tancredo. “Today the British people are learning a hard lesson about the consequences of massive, unrestricted immigration.”
Sharia law, favored by Muslim extremists around the world, often calls for brutal punishment – such as the stoning of women who are accused of adultery or have children out of wedlock, cutting off the hands of petty thieves and lashings for the casual consumption of alcohol. Under Sharia law, a woman is often required to provide numerous witnesses to prove rape allegations against an assailant – a near impossible task.
“When you have an immigration policy that allows for the importation of millions of radical Muslims, you are also importing their radical ideology – an ideology that is fundamentally hostile to the foundations of western democracy – such as gender equality, pluralism, and individual liberty,” said Tancredo. “The best way to safeguard America against the importation of the destructive effects of this poisonous ideology is to prevent its purveyors from coming here in the first place.”
Tancredo’s bill, dubbed the “Jihad Prevention Act,” would bar the entry of foreign nationals who advocate Sharia law. In addition, the legislation would make the advocacy of Sharia law by radical Muslims already in the United States a deportable offense.
Tancredo pointed to the results of a recent poll conducted by the Centre for Social Cohesion as evidence that the U.S. should act to prevent the situation in Great Britain from replicating itself here in the United States. The poll found that some 40 percent of Muslim students in the United Kingdom support the introduction of Sharia law there, and 33 percent support the imposition of an Islamic Sharia-based government worldwide.
“We need to send a clear message that the only law we recognize here in America is the U.S. Constitution and the laws passed by our democratically elected representatives,” concluded Tancredo. “If you aren’t comfortable with that concept, you aren’t welcome in the United States.”
It is good that an American politician is speaking frankly about the nature of Islam and Islamic jihad. But Tancredo is, like Robert Spencer, Lawrence Auster and countless others, misinformed about the nature of the Sharia "courts" in the UK. "Britain's capitulation to Sharia" is a good soundbite, and the facts must never be allowed to get in the way of one of those. To quote from John Sullivan's piece.
Under British law, any two people can agree to take their dispute to such a tribunal rather than to court; the tribunal's decision is then binding on them. It can even be enforced by the official courts and the police.
Yes, arbitration tribunals can settle some disputes and have their judgments enforced. But they must act within the principles of English law: They can't forbid girls to attend mixed classes in school or award sons the bulk of inheritances merely because the parties agreed in advance to accept the verdict - any more than a regular court can enforce a voluntary contract of slavery or prostitution.
The Arbitration Act came into force in 1996, but arbitration, or "alternative dispute resolution" has been around for several hundred years. From the legal point of view, absolutely nothing has changed. So if Britain has, as Spencer puts it (a little too eagerly) "capitulated" to Sharia, it has also "capitulated" to the laws of the Jedi Knight, or the Freemasons or of any other parties who agree to settle their disputes out of court.
Sullivan goes on to say:
Unfortunately, that is far from settling the matter. The police have reportedly been enforcing the sharia court's questionable judgments even though they lack legal force - for example, they've stopped questioning women who've accused their husbands of domestic violence once the tribunal has "settled" the case.
In fact the women withdrew their complaint. The police cannot investigate a complaint of domestic violence - whether involving Muslims or not - once the victim has withdrawn her complaint. So it is not that the case was "settled" by Sharia, or that what is against the law has suddenly become legal.
It is, of course, morally repugnant that the women were "persuaded" by the Sharia decision not to exercise their to justice under our laws. As I argue here, in fact the practical and non-legal dangers of Muslims becoming emboldened, are worse than anything these courts can do. What is legal may still be unjust, and these courts must be actively opposed.
Coming back to Tancredo, he is determined not to let America go the way of us tea-sipping pansy-asses. But it is quite possible that Sharia "courts" with exactly the same powers, or lack of them, already exist in the US. Does the US allow arbitration, where a decision may be legally binding if it does not go against the law of the land? If so, is Sharia specifically forbidden from being used in such arbitration? If yes to the first and no to the second, the US already has exactly what we have. Perhaps at the moment Muslims conduct these "courts" in secret; Muslims are not as arrogant in the US as they are over here. But what has happened in the UK can happen in any country that allows alternative dispute resolution and does not explicitly forbid Sharia in that context. Someone should go undercover in Dearborn, Michigan and see what he finds there.
Tancredo is right to propose barring entry to Muslims who advocate Sharia law, and to make this a deportable offence. What is not clear is how you can be a Muslim and not wish for Sharia law. Realistically you would need to bar entry to all Muslims and deport all Muslims. While the former is feasible, the latter is unlikely to happen.
And is being run openly by an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Muslim American Society. From The Boston Globe:
Sixteen years after 2 acres near Roxbury Crossing were designated for use as a mosque, the area's growing Muslim community has quietly begun using the building for regular worship.
Every night since the start of Ramadan this month, hundreds of Muslims have been gathering for evening prayers at the mosque, now called the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center. Officials of the Muslim American Society, which is overseeing the project, say they plan to gradually add activities throughout the fall and winter and hope to hold a formal opening of the building early next year.
The worshipers gathering at the mosque are ecstatic to finally be able to use the building, which has been delayed for years by fund-raising troubles, controversy surrounding various mosque supporters, and litigation. Last year they held three Ramadan services in the building, but it had no walls or concrete floors; now they are in the building nightly. Mosque officials say they have raised, through donations and noninterest loans, $15 million toward the $15.5 million they need to open the building, and the construction work is largely complete.
"This is such a happy occasion for the Muslim community - this has been a project in the making for decades," said Hossam Al Jabri, president of the Muslim American Society's Boston chapter, which has taken over management of the mosque from the Islamic Society of Boston, which runs a mosque in Cambridge. "It's strange, but I'm thankful that we had to go through the difficulty, because it forced us to come out of an isolation that we were comfortable in, and helped us to see that we have a world out there that is interested to know who we are. And it helped us to make so many friends."...
Determining the size of the Muslim population is an inexact science. The Muslim American Society estimates that about 120,000 Muslims live in Massachusetts; a recent survey by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found the population to be less than 32,000.
The population, reflecting that of the overall Muslim population in the US, is made up largely of three ethnic groups: people of South Asian descent, people of Middle Eastern descent, and African-Americans. The local population also includes a relatively high number of Somali immigrants, mosque officials said.
The mosque has been controversial for years. A conservative Israel-advocacy organization called the David Project asserted that some of the mosque's founding leaders had links to terrorism. In 2005, the Islamic Society filed a lawsuit against the David Project and two media outlets, saying that those allegations were defamatory, but dropped the suit last year after another suit, challenging the mosque's construction, was also dropped.
Although mosque construction has proved controversial in many places around the country, it has been particularly contentious in Boston, according to a national watchdog group.
"Usually we find there's some level of resistance, but the situation in your area was unique in its level of vitriol and viciousness," said Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Washington, D.C.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations. "It was atypical in the level of controversy that was generated by those who were opposed to the mosque, and I don't mean legitimate controversy, I mean fake controversy. There's an effort by some minority of people in any community who seek to marginalize Muslims and demonize Islam, and that's what we saw in this case."
The leading critic of the mosque, Charles Jacobs, said he continues to have concerns about the mosque's leadership, but that "our concerns were never with the rank and file of the Muslim community."
Jacobs was president of the David Project until leaving the post in July.
"Our concern was with the leadership, and the ties that that leadership had, it seemed, to terrorism and the teaching of hatred," Jacobs said. He said he has ongoing concerns about the Islamic Society of Boston and the Muslim American Society, both of which, he says, have expressed extremist views. He said "it's been estimated that 80 percent of mosques are radicalized" but that "it's very difficult for American citizens to speak about these things, because they don't want to be labeled as bigots or Islamophobes, so that has allowed these connections to go much unspoken and unreported."...
New Moriah Film about America during the Shoah featuring ‘unsung’ hero, Peter Bergson
The Moriah Films production unit of the Simon Wiesenthal Center has produced an important new film on America during the Holocaust. The new production, the 10th feature about the Holocaust by Moriah Films, will premier in Jerusalem on October 15, 2008. I met and conferred with Professor David S. Wyman in Connecticut in 2003 after a lecture on his book co-authored with Raphael Medoff, executive director of the David S. Wyman Institute, "Race Against Death." Professor Wyman had earlier written about America during the Holocaust in a 1984 book, “Abandonment of the Jews,” about the failure of the Roosevelt Administration to intervene to save European Jews during WWII. “Race Against Death” discusses the efforts of the Bergson Group who came to America to raise a Jewish Army to fight the Nazis, but resolved to inform and arouse the conscience of America about the Holocaust. I thought it only fitting that Peter Bergson (Hillel Kook) and his intrepid band of Palestinian Jewish Revisionists in the Bergson Group should get recognition for their important efforts. Their genius, pluck and connections with newspaper moguls, Hollywood and entertainment figures like publisher William Randolph Hearst, playwright Ben Hecht, actors Paul Muni, Edward G. Robinson, choreographer Jerome Robbins and composer Kurt Weil made those pageants about the destruction of European Jews an electrifying experience during WWII for tens of thousands of Americans, Jews and non-Jews.
Together with Christian Zionists in our Congress they obtained unanimous resolutions urging the Roosevelt Administration to undertake assistance in saving the remnant of Shoah victims. It was left to the determined staff of Roosevelt’s Dutchess County, New York neighbor, Secretary of Treasury, Henry Morgenthau, Jr. to create the War Refugee Board that enabled the sanctuary and safe transit of more than 200,000 survivors. The Jewish establishment and the Yishuv leadership then, as it does now, tried to trivialize what the Bergson Group had achieved. Only recently has the National Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, consented to include the Bergson Group as part of an exhibit. Yad Vashem in Jerusalem persists in denying the Bergson Group the merest scintilla of recognition for their leadership and efforts during the Shoah. Moriah Films and the SWC are to be commended for this film which many of us believe deserves the widest possible distribution in America and abroad.
John Joyce regularly ends his posts by telling us where we can find their subject on a map. In this week's Spectator, Paul Johnson has a new challenge for those who profess to be well-informed about a place: map it.
Ignorance of map-reading is just part of a wider ignorance of geography. I suspect the subject is badly taught, especially in the state schools. The old system, learning capes and capitals and countries by heart, and poring over atlases, was mechanical but it meant children learned facts and had a good idea of where places were, and their shapes. A generation ago the subject was taken over by the Left, and instead of facts and places children learned about protecting the environment, saving the planet, emissions and how nature is being ruined by industry in the USA. The result is they simply parrot current fads and fantasies, and know nothing. They cannot draw maps, the ability to do which is the essence of geographical knowledge. If I hear somebody ranting away about the Middle East, Iraq, etc., I say ‘Let us see what, if anything, you know about the subject. Here are pens and sheets of paper. I want you to draw a map of the Middle East, including Egypt, the Gulf and Iran, the northern shore of the Black Sea, and the Eastern Mediterranean. Put in all the political boundaries, including those of the Gulf states, and all the capital cities. Mark all the principal oil fields. You need not put in the rivers except the Tigris and Euphrates, but I expect key points such as Mecca to be accurately indicated. While you are doing it, I will draw a similar map and we can compare the two.’ This tactic works very well in deflating the ranters. It confirms something I have long suspected: few people know exactly what is in the Middle East (a term invented by Winston Churchill in 1920-22 or thereabouts) and may mix it up with East Africa. I have never come across anyone who can draw an accurate map of Iraq.
The magic of a good atlas is that you can scan its pages and conjure up in your mind images of distant landscapes. Mere travel will not do this: a knowledge of history is more vital. It is one of the most dangerous myths that travel broadens the mind. If the mind is not broad in the first place, mere tripping and junketing will make no difference. No group travels more today than the 15- to 25-year-olds, and none are more ignorant of geography. I heard recently of a couple who went to the Seychelles believing them to be in the West Indies. Moreover, they returned, after a fortnight in a beach hotel, none the wiser.
The Spectator's offices are in Old Queen Street, which you can find on a London A-Z. They used to be in Doughty Street. Is the move symptomatic of the general pansy-ass wussiness that we are told is taking over our once great country?
The song is about a man who asks a woman out; she replies, lightly smiling, yes yes yes yes. He prepares: buys her a bouquet consisting of three asters, shaves, puts on a new blue polka-dotted tie. And they both arrive, and each waits -- in vain -- for the other. He had waited outside the pharmacy; she had looked for him outside the movie theatre. Each waited, and finally became annoyed with the other. But everything's been explained, everything's fine now, and they end by agreeing to meet tomorrow -- "at the very same place" and at "the very same time."
Readers of the “BILD” and spectators of “SAT1” find themselves amazed these days: Here it is reported that a Turkish welfare recipient built a luxury villa at home and has just bought a BMW off-road vehicle for 70,000 €.
Such a thing surely is only an isolated case - do you think so too?
Then you shouldn’t continue reading, because the content of this article could trigger some thinking about these matters. There is after all a religious community in which some prayer leaders openly promote social benefit fraud. They do not feel guilty as the “glorious age of Islam” had set example of this to them. Some fellow citizens put these calls into action. For the social systems these are a burden. It is a taboo topic. But the evidence speaks another language…
Three cleaning agencies, a fully filled book of commissions- and still welfare recipients. Üzgür Ö. Cashed, in this year alone, up to approximately € 20,000 from the state. And he feels free of guilt. Upon reading these lines one gets the-politically correct- impression, that these surely are only isolated cases. Sadly this is not the case.
One of many further examples: in Hamburg citizen Hamid T. (48) is the worst benefit cheat. Hamid T. cheated nearly 12,500 € from the unemployment office- at the same time earning € 96,656 as an entrepreneur per year. In court the citizen found a thousand excuses- his wife being sick, and having to take care of three children. The judge exercised leniency, she convicted him to only ten months on parole. And that, although Hamid T. had been convicted of fraud in another case. These are not isolated cases-they are typical cases. And they exist in the whole of Europe. But there are also Muslim leaders who support all this openly.
In Europe Muslim prayer leaders openly call on their fellow citizens from Muslim background to commit social benefit fraud. There are many such examples, which are well documented. The listing of these would fill many pages. Let’s just take two such cases: the London newspaper daily mail reported in March 2008 about Muslim-preacher Abu Waleed, who was filmed during lectures in front of his fellow citizens. And in these he requests them to deceive the British welfare state of the ” infidels” as well as they can. The same he did at the London Scharia-school, here he also challenged his listeners to trick the British government. The fellow citizen also gave clues and assistance as to how one can best betray the “infidel” British financially.
In the Netherlands Imam Ahmed S. from Tilburg, who after 15 years of staying in the Netherlands still only speaks Arabic and is allowed to attain an integration course at cost of Dutch tax payers, was allowed to, according to the Brabant Dagblat, call upon Muslims to damage the Dutch state-and not pay anymore taxes. Meanwhile there are magazines and tips on the internet how one can best damage the Dutch social state.
The Swedish welfare state has its own experiences with such citizens too. There are many citizens of Muslim background who have taken refuge in Sweden and obtain social welfare. Meanwhile the Swedish social model is bankrupt. Social welfare fraud by immigrated citizens was considered to be a peccadillo in Sweden for a long time. Sometimes even trustful media were misused as accomplices of the social welfare frauds of Islamic background.
An example: an extended family originally from Iraq tried to betray the social agency with help of the media. The family had allegedly been found by a “saviour” in a cellar in the city of Gälve and had, just as allegedly, suffered from heavy smoke poisoning. They immediately were taken to a hospital and were looked after. The family asserted that the authorities denied them social welfare or even housing in that bitterly cold winter.
That was a “nice” story, about which Swiss media gladly reported. Poor refugees, whom one slammed the door in their face at Christmas time and just let them freeze. Many Swedish media had reported about the “destitution” of this family which was so unfairly treated by the authorities. It then became apparent in course of the inquiry, that the family already was registered in Malmö and had a flat there too. The “saviour” who had apparently saved the family from death by asphyxiation and had informed the media, was a family member.
Meanwhile the Swedes are more alert. It is the Iraqis who appear in leading positions in the statistics of social benefit fraud. No other European country took up so many Iraqi Asylum seekers as Sweden. And in no other country the social security benefits offices are so boldly betrayed by Iraqis as in Sweden. A report on this has been published by the Swedish newspaper “The Local” these days. According to this information the Iraqis make use of the state-financed repatriation grants- and the Swedes pay believing that the Iraqis return back home. If the money has been paid, then the fellow citizens prefer to rather stay in Sweden- and apply for (and are granted) social welfare. 5,345 euros each Iraqi family which initially showed the will to depart, can obtain by fraud in one single dash.
Let’s have a look at the neighbour country of Norway, e.g. Oslo: Here Norwegian newspapers reported for weeks in the summer of 2007 about Muslim taxi drivers not taxing their earnings, and at the same time receiving social welfare. A few of these taxi drivers even openly incited others to betray the social system. At first these were seen to be individual cases, which one could deny. But then a bomb exploded: the inquiries of the officials showed that alone in Oslo around 900 taxi drivers were tax dodgers- and around 500 of them received social welfare at the same time. The majority of these frauds are Pakistani. It was the biggest social benefit fraud of the country to date. The criminals even had given interviews in the past. In German speaking media they found no attention though.
To understand all this, one has to only know two Islamic concepts: Dhimmi and Dschizya. Dhimmi, in the Islamic legal tradition, are called the followers of monotheistic religions, who are not accepted with full legal status though. Jews and Christians are according to Islamic tradition Dhimmi. As long as they have not embraced Islam they have to pay a special tax to Muslims called Dschyzia. Islam wants it thus- and it is a fixed part of Islamic law (Scharia). This fee of the “unbelievers” has to be paid in cash or in naturals. This logic of the Koran was one of the basic prerequisites for the first golden age of Islam. While Christianity first converted people and then, with growing numbers of Christians, areas started to become Christian.
Islam went another way since Mohammed’s time: One conquered an area that was populated by “unbelievers” through the peaceful or forced moving in of Muslims, and then constructed the tribute system called Dschazya to redistribute the existent riches of the working “infidel” population. Even in the most golden of ages of Islam Muslims never were the majority in the European areas they controlled (e.g. Andalusia). The New-York-Times bestseller author Mark Steyn, a Canadian, described in his 2006 published book America Alone on pages 164/165 the here out sketched conditions.
Muslims were and staid a minority in the conquered European areas, and sapped the affluence off the “infidels” as a given. Today it is called differently, but the facts stay the same. And this redistribution also is valid for the “infidels” in Islamic states: in every predominantly Islamic state of the world known to the author, an “infidel” foreigner needs a local business partner, if one wants to start a company or do business. Even ethnic Chinese have to present a Muslim business partner in their homeland Malaysia, which has a Chinese minority. And whosoever wants to do business in Dubai, knows this just as anyone who wants to open an office in Egypt. One needs a local Muslim “sponsor”. The word “sponsor” here is an intelligent euphemism of someone who lives off the strength of someone else.
This tribute system favours the spreading of Islam, because the people, plundered by Muslims through Dschizya , convert to Islam at some point in time due to frustration, or exile to non-Muslim areas. In this way Islam had to spread under compulsion, if it wanted to further enjoy the sapping of working populations-to Persia, central Asia, to India and also to Europe. Always on the lookout for “infidels” who were ready to pay Dschizya in any form.
This all is a fixed part of Islamic history. And in the Koran schools of Europe Dschizya is still being taught today-but the Europeans prefer not to hear this. It isn’t politically correct. But it helps to explain, why a part of our Muslim fellow citizens don’t feel the urge to strive for an income or a future. Islam has after all showed how one does it. And precisely with this background it had its glorious golden age.
A majority of the Islamic world still today lives off Dschizya. One lets others work for oneself. One imports foreign slave workers-and leans back. As a given one expects tribute and transfer payments from “infidel” states. Of course it is called differently today. Again: Islam, as an ideology, often lived and still lives from nothing but the transfer of existing riches-and always in one direction: from wealthy “infidels” to the Muslims. And this is being taught in present Koran schools under the term Dschizya. Allah apparently wanted all of this. Those who have to deliver these performances will read these lines with disbelief.
Whoever thinks all this now to be “racist” or “hostile to foreigners” is asked to have a look at the source of all these examples: no other than the New-York-Times bestseller author Mark Steyn, a Canadian, depicted these things in his 2006 published bestseller America Alone on pages 164/165. There was an outcry in the Islamic world-but the given facts are true.
In a lot more detail the historian Bat Yeor describes the sapping of existing riches of “infidels” in her book “The Decline of Eastern Christianity under Islam”. Bat Yeor was often attacked too-but no one could disprove her explanations so far. Bat Yeor is internationally well-known and was honoured with many prizes. One shouldn’t reproach those fellow citizens who have learned and internalized the system of Dschazya in the Koran schools of today and have openly been called to live it by Muslim leaders. From the viewpoint of Islam it is a state of affairs that was willed by Allah.
Who should criticize that?
Udo Ulfkotte is an Evangelical journalist renowned as a security and intelligence services expert, as well as a critic of Islam. His was formerly an editor for one of Germany's main dailies, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ). Ulfkotte heads Pax Europa, a German Islam critical organization. Conference of Presidents Disinvites Governor Palin
On Friday I sent the American Jewish organization, “Conference of Presidents” the following one line e-mail:
"Your decision to dis-invite governor Palin is the most obvious act of Jewish self-debasement in my lifetime”.
These worthy gentlemen (is there a woman among the many Presidents?) in their website make the following statement to describe “Who we are”…..
For half a century, the Conference of Presidents has played a key role in American and world Jewish history. From mass public events to private diplomacy, the Conference has been in the forefront of mobilizing support for Israel and educating the public in times of war and conflict, and in the pursuit of peace.
Today, the Conference of Presidents remains American Jewry’s recognized address for consensus policy, collective action, and maximizing the resources of the American Jewish community. When events in the U.S., Israel and elsewhere affect the American Jewish community, the Conference of Presidents take the lead to explain and analyze issues, provide a link between American Jewry and the U.S. government, and marshal a coordinated community response.
Apparently their will to “take the lead to explain and analyze issues and…marshal a coordinated community response” must NEVER jeopardize the automatic political pledge of these self-proclaimed leaders of Jewish opinion in the United States to the Democratic Party. Rather than have the support of the Republican nominee for Vice-President, they prefer that no candidate for the top executive offices in the United States take part in the planned rally against Iranian Prime Minister Ahmadinejad due to the non-negotiable demand of the petulant Senator Hillary Clinton who had already been invited and accepted, that she would not attend if the invitation to Governor Palin was not withdrawn. This is how they interpret being in the “forefront of mobilizing support for Israel”
It matters not a fig to the distinguished Presidents as the spokesmen for American Jewry that 94% of Muslim Americans enthusiastically plan to support Senator Obama in his candidacy. For these paragons of Liberal Thought including the several willfully ignorant Reform Rabbis who have appeared on the History Channel and other documentary programs proclaiming in all their piety, innocence and assumed mantle of linguistic scholarship that ISLAM (meaning SUBJUGATION) really means PEACE, a hint from the CLINTONS or the deadly fear that someone might suspect Jews would demonstrate against Ahmadinejad either at Columbia University or the U.N. without the prior approval and blessing of the Democratic Party, is immediately to be stamped as NOT KOSHER.
They can no longer claim with any shred of credibility or decency that they are……………
“American Jewry’s recognized address for consensus policy, collective action, and maximizing the resources of the American Jewish community.”
On September 20th, 2003, the International Monetary Fund released their report entitled "West Bank and Gaza: Economic Performance and Reform Under Conflict Conditions". The IMF show a curious lack of curiosity as to where the money in the "Palestinian Authority" was going, namely to graft, corruption, and supporting terrorism. In the 131 page report, there are barely a few offhand references to corruption; instead, the report focuses on the opportunity for reform. There is also a heaping helping of veiled references to the you-know-who's "causing" a lot of suffering by the brave and resilient "Palestinians". Here's a few quotes from the IMF news conference in Dubai:
We had many different estimates of declines due to, of course, the recession that ensued, the conflict. Tourism stopped to a standstill. Palestinian workers could not work in Israel any more. There were checkpoints, and curfews, and roadblocks in various areas in the West Bank which basically fragmented the whole West Bank and, you know, paralyzed economic activity and paralyzed trade. So all of this, obviously, had a pretty disastrous effect on the economy, and there were estimates of declines reaching 50 percent of GDP.
[W]e wanted to find out what is it that made this economy still function and be resilient in the face of very severe external shocks.
Finally, I should say that this study could not have been possible without the new atmosphere of openness and transparency that has permeated the PA, particularly in the financial and fiscal sphere, under Minister Fayyad
For instance, in the study, for the first time, we have a table which covers the period from '95 to 2000, outlining the diversion of revenue from the budget to a special bank account controlled by President Arafat. We estimated that amount to be around US$900 million over a period of five years. So, I mean, this is the type of things that we were able to do in this new kind of atmosphere of openness.
[A]lthough the regime of closures, and checkpoints and other security infrastructure that has been imposed on the economy has definitely had a negative effect, the economy has been much more resilient than one might have expected. In fact, by looking at data for the first half of this year, there are signs it is even beginning to recover somewhat.
And because the banking system is still functioning, the residents in the West Bank and Gaza can continue to conduct their daily lives, making deposits, withdrawing money, writing checks, and so on. And that's another reason why the economy has been able to withstand this difficult situation better than might have been expected.
Notice that the list of activities in the residents' lives does not include "working", "generating capital", or "being productive". But maybe that's what he meant by "and so on".
It all sounds vaguely wonderfully promising. But two months later, World Tribune reported on an assessment by the U.S. government:
The United States has acknowledged that the Palestinian Authority has failed to end corruption and graft.
U.S. officials said PA Chairman Yasser Arafat continues to control all finances coming in to the PA. They said that despite efforts at reform, Arafat has managed to shuffle a range of funds so he can ensure the loyalty of Palestinian insurgents and his ruling Fatah movement.
The State Department appeared embarrassed by reports over the weekend that Arafat has embezzled huge amounts of money. This includes the transfer of $100,000 per month to Arafat's wife, Suha, who lives in Paris with her daughter.
"The history of financial improprieties in the Palestinian Authority, I think, is well known and longstanding, and, in fact, has been a major concern of ours," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said on Monday.
But not so major as to actually reduce U.S. aid to the "Palestinians".
In 2004, P.L.O./P.A. Minister of (Dis)Information Nabil Amr criticised Yasir Arafat and called for financial reform. He was shot twice in the leg by Arafat's Al Aqsa Martyr's Brigade. An Arab commentator wryly noted: "Amr waited until he built his villa and married off his daughter, all on funds given him by Arafat, before setting out on his crusade against corruption."
In 2006, following the death of Yasir Arafat (reportedly from AIDS), "Palestinian" reformers were again hot on the trail of corruption in their midst. USA Today reported:
Palestinian prosecutors froze bank accounts and seized assets of dozens of suspects in a widening corruption probe of senior government officials believed to have stolen hundreds of millions of dollars in public funds, the Palestinian attorney general said.
Earlier this week, al-Meghani said his investigation concluded that Palestinian Authority officials may have stolen billions of dollars from the public coffers. Some of the cases involved companies with ties to the Palestinian Authority.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has pledged to clean up the Palestinian Authority and his Fatah Party, both infested with corruption, but progress has been slow.
Al-Meghani said he has frozen the bank accounts and assets of dozens of suspects, but declined to give details. "It is a temporary freeze until we finish the investigation and the trials," he said.
He noted that one former suspect — Palestinian TV chief Hisham Miki who was killed by gunmen in 2001 — was believed to have stolen $23 million in public funds, and that his London apartment was seized during the investigation.
The mafia has internal struggles for control of their rackets, too. The fact that one faction uses a "corruption investigation" to liquidate their opponents is misinterpreted by the forever guillible kufirs that true reform is underway, just as peace with Israel is always just around the corner.
