To The John Gings Of This World, Israel Will Always Be Responsible
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Two dozen masked men vandalized a U.N. summer camp for children in Gaza early Monday, burning and slashing tents, toys and a plastic swimming pool. It was the second such attack in a month.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but Islamic extremists have accused the main U.N. aid agency here of corrupting Gaza's youth with its summer program of games, sports and human rights lessons for 250,000 children.
The U.N.'s main competitor in running summer camps is the ruling Islamic militant Hamas movement, which says it reaches some 100,000 children. The Hamas camps teach Islam and military-style marching, along with swimming and horseback riding.
In Monday's attack, about two dozen armed and masked men targeted a seaside camp in central Gaza, one of dozens of U.N. sites across the Palestinian territory.
'Despicable' attack The assailants tied up an unarmed guard, then tried to set fire to two tents and a perimeter fence made from tarp-like material. Wielding knives, they slashed a plastic swimming pool, blow-up slide and toys.
John Ging, the local U.N. chief, called it a "cowardly and despicable" attack and said the site would be rebuilt quickly.
He said the attack is the latest sign of growing levels of extremism in Gaza. He said it provides further evidence "of the urgency to change the circumstances on the ground that are generating such extremism."
Pakistan Sunni Islamists Attack Females For Studying
Schoolgirls in Pakistan Face Daily Threats
The nation of Pakistan is currently in crisis because many parts of this nation are out of control and central forces can do little to stem the tide of Islamic hatred. Given this reality, the Taliban and other radical Sunni Muslim organizations have warned young females from obtaining an education. This policy is not related to the government of Pakistan but the government of this nation must be held accountable for not protecting females and teachers.
Instead this barbaric policy is being introduced by radical Sunni Islamic forces who desire to rule by fear. Attacks which began to increase in 2009 have continued in 2010 and schools have been bombed by pro-Taliban forces. Therefore, how can Pakistan and other nations and institutions stop this madness and mass cruelty?
Of course the political correct liberals in the West and the “well meaning” who try to excuse every crime committed by these fanatics, remain mainly silent when issues like this occur. Therefore, we hear so much about Guantanamo Bay but what about the dark forces of radical Sunni Islam, why don’t we get more information about this global reality?
Yes, Guantanamo Bay can be questioned because of the violation of international law. Yet what about informing people about the brutal ideology of radical Sunni Islam? After all, they support the persecution of women, killing homosexuals, killing converts from Islam, stoning people to death for adultery, closing female schools, killing teachers who teach females, and many other barbaric and draconian measures.
Yet the political correct who were aghast by Guantanamo Bay, say very little about the reality of radical Sunni Islam. Therefore, today we are seeing a new wave of radical Sunni Islam in parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan once more. This means a new drive against women in order to maintain a firm male grip over society. However, the mass media, on the whole, appears to be asleep on this issue and feminists remain mainly silent and the same applies to moderate Muslims who only see Islam in a positive light?
Therefore, in the early part of the 21st century we are witnessing a militant Sunni Islamic ideology which supports destroying schools which teach females, killing teachers who teach young girls, and other brutal methods in order to rule by fear. This is being done in the name of Islam and this barbaric way of thinking appears to be gaining ground and minorities also fear persecution, therefore, Ahmadiyya Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, and others, fear an “Islamic year zero.”
This mindset somehow appears to be growing in parts of Pakistan and the hands of funding from Saudi Arabia and other draconian nations is enabling this. Alas, the liberal mass media wants to say little or excuse every possible crime which is being done in the name of Sunni Islam.
To the followers of this radical Sunni Islamic ideology, they deem the killing of innocents and ruling by fear to be Godly. In their eyes it is right to humiliate and persecute women, Shia Muslims, Ahmadiyya Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and Sikhs; kill converts who leave Sunni Islam; to chop hands and feet off for minor crimes; to stone women to death for adulter;, and so forth. This ideology is similar to Nazism, it is about the destruction of all alternative thought patterns and it is based on ruling by fear.
This radical Sunni Islamic Sharia state which is desired by Islamists would mean a return to an age of complete barbarity. If a political movement in any developed nation rose up like this, then all liberals and democrats would be aghast, however, many parts of the mass media are ignoring the reality of what radical Sunni Islam means. Therefore, without any major political desire, this problem will be left unchallenged and females will be the first victims and after them the rest will follow.
There was an outbreak of mass hysteria at The All England Tennis Championships today after a member of the audience shouted ‘Come on Tim!’ even though there was nobody called Tim actually playing.
‘When the man said ‘Come on Tim!’ Centre Court just erupted,’ said presenter Sue Barker, ‘people were rolling about the aisles, the players couldn’t continue and the umpire was laughing so much he fell off his chair. It was pandemonium. We haven’t seen anything like this since the time when the pigeon landed on Court Number 3.’
The contagious laughter spread so fast that play on all courts was suspended with a number of people taken to hospital complaining of chest pains. ‘At one stage we feared the joke might derail the entire Championships,’ said Tournament Director Ian Ritchie, ‘we only managed to restore order by repeatedly opening and closing the retractable roof – something we use to help calm people down.’
Speaking afterwards, the man who shouted the line, Mr Lionel Bream from Godalming, Surrey, said: ‘I noticed that people were shouting for the two players on court so I thought that it would be really funny if, instead, I shouted ‘Come on Tim!’ I guess the rest is history.’
‘The line ‘Come on Tim!’ is so amusing because it creates a surreal juxtaposition,’ explained comedy expert Dr Jonathan Miller, ‘it refers to a time when people genuinely shouted ‘Come on Tim!’ for Tim Henman, a man who is himself a joke. Thus, by shouting ‘Come on Tim!’ when Tim wasn’t even there, Mr Bream created a sublime moment of post-ironic metatextual comedy genius.’
The shout has now been confirmed as the funniest incident in the entire history of the All England Club, funnier even than when Ilie Nastase got down on all fours and looked into the Cyclops line calling machine, more amusing than when Henri Leconte pulled a face and minced round the court pretending to be a girl, and more ironic than every time John McEnroe knowingly says ‘You cannot be serious’ when he isn’t even being serious.
I'm a pub person rather than a bar person, but while I know a pub when I see it, I'm not sure I could easily define what makes a pub a pub. After all, there are those risible Irish theme bars like Filty McNasty, which don't qualify as pubs, not to mention the overpriced girly bars like the Slug and Lettuce (now defunct, I think) or All Bar One, where the ropiest of wines costs £8 a glass and you can't hear yourself think.
The distinction has exercised some correspondents to The Times. A Clive Whichelow suggests that a pub "should have to serve hand-pulled real ale", but Alan Kahn disagrees because this would "exclude those superb pubs that serve beer the way brewers intended - solely by gravity direct from the barrel to the glass."
My favourite answer is from Eddie Main, who writes:
I would suggest that it is the same as the boat/ship question. You can put a bar in a pub, but not a pub in a bar.
That will do nicely. I wonder if it works with ships and bottles.
Comforting -- And Therefore Dangerous -- Crap About Prison
West's prisons can keep militant Islam out: study
By William Maclean, Security Correspondent
LONDON (Reuters) – Western prisons could root out militantIslamism among inmates by adopting the more imaginative approaches to prisoners used in parts of the Middle East and Asia, a British study suggests.
The provision of religious advice and helping prisoners cultivate non-extremist social networks are among measures proposed in the study of prisons in 15 countries.
Britain's chief prison inspector said last month the treatment of Muslim inmates by prison staff as potentially dangerous militants risked driving them into the hands of radical groups.
Prisons occupy a central place in the history of militant Islamist groups such as al Qaeda which see them as valued centers of learning, recruitment and indoctrination.
Creative programs can turn the tide, argues the study of prison militants in Afghanistan, Algeria, Britain, Egypt, France, Indonesia, Israel, Netherlands, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, the United States and Yemen.
For example in Singapore, alleged terrorists are systematically re-educated in prison, said the report by London's International Center for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence (ICSR).
A team of trained religious advisers helps them go through the Koran, showing how critical passages need to be read in context, and how extremist notions about violence are often based on misreadings and misinterpretations, the report says.
Prisons can be "a place for reform as well as radicalization," Peter Neumann, study author and director of ICSR based at London University's King's College, told Reuters.
"Prisons can play a positive role in tackling problems of radicalization and terrorism in society as a whole."
"SECURITY FIRST" APPROACH
Most Western prison systems practiced a "security first" approach with radicalized inmates, Neumann said, arguing this amounted to "locking people away and making sure they don't cause any trouble." Opportunities for reform were missed.
In Saudi Arabia, officials spend heavily to reform and re-integrate former militants to try to ensure they can look forward to a meaningful and productive life after leaving prison, the report says. In some cases, this process has included buying them houses and cars, and even finding them wives.
"None of the de-radicalization programs in the Middle East and Southeast Asia is perfect," said Neumann.
"But they should serve as an inspiration for people in the West to think more creatively about what positive things could be done with radicals and terrorists in the state's custody."
Neumann said this approach would not work everywhere, because de-radicalization depended on a conducive environment.
Releasing people into hostile communities with no further supervision would not work because all good de-radicalization programs were based on follow-up and after-care, which in case of Afghanistan for example was difficult, he said.
The study's proposed measures include:
-- A mix of education, typically combining ideological and/or religious re-education with vocational training.
-- Appointing credible interlocutors, who can relate to prisoners' personal and psychological needs.
-- Sophisticated methods for locking prisoners into multiple commitments and obligations toward family and community.
Seven Israeli Arabs affiliated with al-Qaida and Global Jihad have been arrested for allegedly murdering a taxi driver last year, and carrying out a series of terrorist attacks, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) revealed on Monday.
In a joint police-Shin Bet operation, Ahmed Ahmed, 21, Jalib Janam, 26, Wassim Allam, 23, Khidar Ziddana, 22, Ahbed Abu-Salim, 19, Adi Azzam, 23, and Oman Kakhibi, 22, all Nazareth residents, were arrested between May 11 and June 21. All seven were indicted Monday at the Haifa District Court.
Dep.-Cmdr. Avi Elgrisi, Head of Amakim Police's Central Unit told The Jerusalem Post that "this is one of the most dangerous cells we have uncovered." The investigation was initially focused on two suspects, before being widened to include a total of seven suspects, he said, adding that police are expected to make more arrests The group allegedly carried out attacks to avenge the murder of Arabs by Jews in Israel, and confessed to plotting to kidnap IDF soldiers and take their weapons.
Ahmed, Janam and Zidanna were involved involved in the murder of taxi driver Yafim Weinstein, who was killed on November 30, 2009, as well as other attacks. In their interrogation, the three confessed to ordering Weinstein to a kibbutz near Nazareth, where one shot the taxi driver, and others assisted in destroying evidence.
The Shin Bet also found that after the murder, Ahmed and Janam attempted to travel to an al-Qaida training camp in Somalia to join the fighting against the Christian "heretics" as well as against the US, but were barred from entering Somalia at the Kenyan border.
Three others planned to kidnap a Nazareth resident and behead him on video, but did not do so. Elgrisi said that they had even dug a grave for the Christian man who "insulted the prophet Muhammad." The men also threw stun grenades and Molotov cocktails at Jewish- and Christian-owned businesses and homes in the town. They burnt Christian tour buses, and dealt in arms. They also stabbed a pizza delivery man in Nazareth Illit, stealing his scooter and NIS 100.
The cell had prepared several explosive devices and simulated the kidnapping of soldiers while engaging in Internet communications with a terror operative based in Gaza, known as "Abu Kassam." The cell filmed their preparations, Elgrisi said last year, adding that in one exercise, a cell member pretended to be an IDF soldier while the remainder of the group practiced abducting him.
There are some things I agree with in Pat Condell's vitriolic attack on the Pope, but far more that I disagree with and find offensive. None of this matters. I post the clip only in the hope that some misguided Islamic apologist might see it and question whether Pat Condell - or indeed any other critic of Islam - deserves to be called "right wing". On the contrary, his woolly nonsense about starving multitudes sounds like boilerplate "liberation theology".
What is my point? Merely that the counter-jihad is a broad church. That's it.
