Al Qaeda continues to preach jihad through an Urdu monthly magazine, The Express Tribune has learnt. The 200-page magazine, Hiteen, is delivered by post.
Hiteen, the battlefield where Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi defeated the Crusaders, was started in June 2011, a month after Osama Bin Laden’s death. The magazine has stories which preach jihad and praise Bin Laden.
Hiteen is being sent to not only the Deobandis but also to Ahle Hadith and Barelvis to convert them to Al Qaeda’s point of view. The seventh edition which was sent out last month, opens with an essay, Matyrdom of Sheikh Osama bin Laden and the International Jihad Movement.
The magazine has the ‘sayings’ of Mullah Omer and some Al Qaeda leaders. There is also an interview with Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdul Rehman Al Husnain. Husnain, once part of Kuwait’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, has now joined Al Qaeda. There is a fatwa by Muhammad Waliullah Hussain of the Jamiatul Uloomul Islami, which declares that there is no bar on Muslims looting goods from Nato containers.
A police officer of the Counter Terrorism Department, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said they had knowledge of the magazine and that copies of it were in their record.
He maintained that they would soon discover who was responsible for publishing and circulating Hiteen.
Francis Albert Sinatra (1915-1998) may have been one of America's most famous Italian Catholics, but he kept the Jewish people and the State of Israel close to his heart, manifesting life-long commitments to fighting antisemitism and to activism on behalf of Israel.
Sinatra stepped forward in the early 1940s, when big names were needed to rouse America into saving Europe's remaining Jews, and he sang at an "Action for Palestine " rally (1947). He sat on the board of trustees of the Simon Wiesenthal Center; and he donated over $1 million to Jerusalem's Hebrew University, which honored him by dedicating the Frank Sinatra International Student Center. (The Center made heartbreaking headlines when terrorists bombed it in 2002, killing nine people.)
As the result of his support for the Jewish State, his movies and records were banned in some Arab countries. Sinatra helped Teddy Kollek, later the long-serving mayor of Jerusalem but then a member of the Haganah, by serving as a $1 million money-runner that helped Israel win the war.
The Copacabana Club, which was very much run and controlled by the same Luciano-related New York mafia crowd with whom Sinatra had become enmeshed, happened to be next door to the hotel out of which Haganah members were operating. In his autobiography, Kollek relates how, trying in March 1948 to circumvent an arms boycott imposed by President Harry Truman on the Jewish fighters in Eretz Yisrael, he needed to smuggle about $1 million in cash to an Irish ship captain docked in the Port of New York. The young Kollek spotted Sinatra at the bar and, afraid of being intercepted by federal agents, asked for help. In the early hours of the morning, the singer went out the back door with the money in a paper bag and successfully delivered it to the pier.
The origins of Sinatra's love affair with the Jewish people are not clear but, for years, the Hollywood icon wore a small mezuzah around his neck, a gift from Mrs. Golden, an elderly Jewish neighbor who cared for him during his boyhood in Hoboken, N.J. (Years later, he honored her by purchasing a quarter million dollars' worth of Israel bonds).
He protected his Jewish friends, once responding to an antisemitic remark at a party by simply punching the offender. Time magazine reported that Sinatra walked out on the christening of his own son when the priest refused to allow a Jewish friend to be the godfather. As late as 1979, he raged over the fact that a Palm Springs cemetery official in California declared that he could not arrange the burial of a deceased Jewish friend over the Thanksgiving holiday; Sinatra again threatened to punch him in the nose.
Sinatra famously played the role of a Jewish pilot in Cast a Giant Shadow, the 1966 film filmed in Israel and starring friend Kirk Douglas as Mickey Marcus, the Jewish-American colonel who fought and died in Israel's war for independence (Sinatra dive-bombs Egyptian tanks with seltzer bottles!) He donated his salary for the part to the Arab-Israeli Youth Center in Nazareth and he also made a significant contribution to the making of Genocide, a film about the Holocaust, and helped raise funds for the film.
Less known is Sinatra in Israel (1962), a short 45-minute featurette he made in which he sang In the Still of the Night and Without a Song. He also starred in The House I Live In (1945), a ten-minute short film made to oppose antisemitism at the end of World War II, which received an Honorary Academy Award and a special Golden Globe award in 1946.
The full beauty and refinement of contemporary British culture were evident in a short item in the Guardian this week:
Four people died at the weekend following attacks during New Year’s Eve parties in Luton, Sheffield, London, and Toft Monk in Norfolk. A teenage girl and boy were arrested in Bedfordshire after a 42-year-old man was found stabbed outside his partner’s house in Luton, and a man in his 20s is in custody in north London after a 22-year-old man died of shotgun wounds in Clerkenwell. In Sheffield, a man died following a confrontation at the Stars and Mayfair Party suites, and in Norfolk two men aged 38 and 45 are in custody after a man in his 20s died outside a pub in the village of Toft Monk.
Four murders in a population of more than 60 million is not very many. Yet this is to miss their emblematic quality. The undertow of aggression and violence in what passes for social life in Britain (a country that not so long ago was remarkable for its low level of public disorder) is so obvious that only those with their eyes shut could miss it. Nowadays, wherever the British gather socially, you get the feeling that things could get nasty at any moment. The young British get drunk en masse, they scream and shout en masse, they make fools of themselves en masse, and they become aggressive and paranoid en masse.
Indeed, it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between the sound of young British people enjoying themselves and the sound of young British people committing murder in the street. I do not exaggerate. Twice in recent years I have heard the “normal” sound of drunken revelry outside in the early hours of the morning, only to discover later that it was the sound of someone being stabbed or beaten.
The citizenry either joins in the menacing revelry itself or retires behind closed doors like the Transylvanian peasantry avoiding Dracula after dark. Our supine leaders do nothing, afraid of appearing old-fashioned and stuffy and perhaps of offending the alcohol industry, which actively promotes mass drunkenness. Their paralysis in the face of so simple a problem to solve does not augur well for their ability to confront the much more serious and complex problems confronting the country.
Ugandan Pastor, an Apostate from Islam, Treated in Israel for Christmas Acid Attack by Muslims
Pastor Umar Mulinde of Uganda with Dr. Josef Haik of Sheba Medical Center in Israel
Israel Hayom today had a human interest story that illustrates the threat to Apostates from Islam and how Israel provides care to its friends, “Ugandan pastor treated in Israel after being attacked by Muslim extremists.” It is reflective of the great risk that all apostates from Islam bear when they leave Islam. In this instance former Muslim, Umar Mulinde, Christian convert and now an evangelical pastor was viciously attacked with acid on Christmas Eve because of his preaching support for Israel. He suffered severe burns to his body and damage to his left eye. Through a Jewish internet connection, he was flown to Israel for treatment. Another example of how Israel cares for its friends.
You may recall our post on Sharia Vigilante Justice against another apostate, here in the US. Former Muslims United colleague Nonie Darwish had written about the vicious attack on an Iraqi émigré in St. Louis, , who was waylaid while driving, forced over to the side of the highway, assaulted and had a Star of David carved on his back. He had written poetry in support of Israel. Such is the barbarism perpetrated by the brothers in the Ummah on apostates who dare to defend the hated Jews and Israel.
Here is the Israel Hayom story:
An evangelical pastor from Uganda had to receive extensive emergency medical treatment in Israel last week after he was splashed with acid by Muslim extremists in the Ugandan capital of Kampala.
Pastor Umar Mulinde, 38, arrived in Israel on Thursday seeking urgent medical attention after extremists doused him with acid, causing severe burns to his face, torso and hand, and damage to his right eye. Mulinde recently began preaching support for Israel, and was attacked on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24. He was initially admitted to the International Hospital in Kampala, but then made a request to be brought to Israel to receive advanced medical treatment. He is currently being treated at the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, which has confirmed that Mulinde is recovering from heavy burns and damage to his eye.
The Ugandan pastor revealed that he spent most of his life as a Muslim and was a late convert to Christianity. Recounting the brutal attack against him, he said, "I was attacked by someone who called out to me and when I turned to look over, he spilled acid on me that burned part of my face. When I turned around again, another person spilled acid over my back. They ran away yelling ‘Allahu Akbar’ [Allah is great]."
According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Mulinde contacted Andrea Gottlieb, the executive director of the online Jewish distance learning portal JerusalemOnlineU.com, for financial and logistical support so he could be treated in Israel. Gottlieb took on the request and contacted the director-general of the Sheba Medical Center, Professor Zeev Rothstein, who agreed to help Mulinde. The pastor was then brought to Israel and provided with medical treatment free of charge.
Upon his arrival at the Sheba Medical Center, Mulinde underwent an initial medical assessment by the head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery's Burns Unit, Dr. Josef Haik, and the head of the hospital's Goldschleger Eye Institute, Dr. Joseph Moisseiev.
"The pastor will need to undergo a series of reconstructive surgeries over the next few weeks," Dr. Haik said. "The injury inflicted to [Mulinde's] eye is severe and the initial surgery, expected take place over the next few days, will focus on reconstructing the eyelid of the affected eye, and will include skin grafts."
Dr. Noa Avni-Zauberman, an eye doctor working at the Sheba Medical Center who also treated Mulinde, spoke on the pastor's injuries, saying, "The damage caused is severe and it is still too early to determine whether [Mulinde] will be able to see out of that eye."
"Liberated" is the nom de post of a Pakistani girl who grew up in an Arab state -- presumably one of the sheikdoms -- along the left littoral of the Persian Gulf, where she still lives. At some point, tutored from afar by the knowledge offered by the Internet, chiefly from Ali Sina, to whom she repeatedly expresses gratitude for the information available at his website, www.faithfreedom.org, and recognizing the awfulness of Islamic doctrine, she came to be that splendid thing, an ex-Muslim, one unafraid to describe what she had been brought up to believe, and which she now recognized as a menace to everyone, non-Muslims, ex-Muslims, and Muslims themselves.
Here is the latest entry at her blog, together with the comments following:

Why do Muslims despise Jews so much?
According to the Merriam Webster online dictionary, the term ‘Zionist’ is defined as “An international movement originally for the establishment of a Jewish national or religious community in Palestine and later for the support of modern Israel”. So when I said in my last post that I have always been a Zionist, I meant that I have always supported Israel and the Jews, and I am sure my statement was pretty clear. Then where did this come from?

come on you have got to be kidding me
jew and zionist not same thing you dumb bitch
What do you mean by that, Kai56? Can you please be more specific why you rendered me with such delightful adjectives?
I have an Egyptian colleague who recently went on a trip to Europe with his family. During one of the train journeys, his 7-year-old daughter got friendly with a similar aged American girl on the train, and then both the parents also introduced themselves since they had a few hours more to go. After a few minutes of casual conversation, my colleague found out that they were Jewish Americans. According to his own admission, he said “Shakila, as soon as I found out that they were Jewish, I had this sudden urge to push them all out of the train”. To say that I was shocked beyond belief is an understatement. I just asked him, “Why, Ahmed? Were they not nice people?” To that he replied: “They seemed nice in the beginning before I found out their true identity, but once I did, I just could continue making idle conversation with them, nor could I let my daughter play with their girl, so I just pulled my wife and kids away from them and moved to a different compartment of the train.” So as you can see, this is the kind of hatred that many Muslims, especially Arabs, harbor in their hearts against the Jews. Why do they despise them so much that they don’t even recognize them as human beings? Well, of course, the answer lies in the book of all evils, the Holy Quran… Here is a snapshot of what the revered & sacred book of the Muslims says about their worst enemies.
"Humiliation and wretchedness were stamped on the Jews and they were visited with Allah's wrath."
"Have you not considered those to whom a portion of the Book has been given? They traffic in error and desire that you should go astray. But Allah has full knowledge of your enemies. Of the Jews there are those who displace words from their (right) places, saying, 'We hear and we disobey' with a twist of their tongues they slander Faith.... Allah has cursed them for disbelief."
"O you People of the Book to whom the Scripture has been given, believe in what We have (now) revealed, confirming and verifying what was possessed by you, before We destroy your faces beyond all recognition, turning you on your backs, and curse you as We cursed the Sabbath-breakers, for the decision of Allah Must be executed."
"For the iniquity of the Jews We made unlawful for them certain (foods) in that they hindered many from Allah's Way, that they took usury, though they were forbidden, and that they devoured men's wealth on false pretenses, We have prepared for those among them who reject [Islamic] Faith a painful doom."
"Say: 'People of the Book! Do you disapprove of us for no other reason than that we believe in Allah, and the revelation that has come to us and that which came before?' Say: 'Shall I point out to you something much worse than this by the treatment it received from Allah? Those who incurred the curse of Allah and His wrath, those of whom He transformed into apes and swine."
"But you [Jews] went back on your word and were lost losers. So become apes, despised and hated. We made an example out of you."
"Allah made the Jews leave their homes by terrorizing them so that you killed some and made many captive. And He made you inherit their lands, their homes, and their wealth. He gave you a country you had not traver
"The Jews are devoid of sense. There is a grievous punishment awaiting them. Satan tells them not to believe so they will end up in Hell."
"Sufficient for the Jew is the Flaming Fire!"
"Has the narration reached you of the overwhelming (calamity)? Some faces (all disbelievers, Jews and Christians) that Day, will be humiliated, downcast, scorched by the burning fire, while they are made to drink from a boiling hot spring."
"They [Jews] will not fight against you save in fortified townships. Their hostility and hatred amongst themselves is strong: you would think they were united, but their hearts they are divided. That is because these [Jews] are a people devoid of sense."
"But because of their breach of their covenant We cursed the Jews, and made their hearts grow hard. They change the words from their (right) places [the illiterate prophet pronounced] and forget and abandon a good part of the message that was sent them. Nor will you cease to find deceit in them. And because of their breaking their covenant We have cursed them. They altered words from their context and they neglected a portion of the message they were reminded of."
"Or it be among the Jews, men who will listen to any lie. They change the context of the words from their (right) times and places.... For them there is disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a heavy punishment.""
"They are fond of listening to falsehood, of devouring anything forbidden; they are greedy for illicit gain!"
"It was We who revealed the Torah. By its standard the prophets judged the Jews, and the prophets bowed (in Islam) to Allah's will, surrendering. For the rabbis and priests: to them was entrusted the protection of Allah's Scripture Book; they were witnesses of it. Therefore fear not men, but fear Me, and sell not My revelations for a miserable price."
"The Jews say: 'Allah's hands are fettered.' Be their hands tied up and be they accursed for the blasphemy they utter. Nay, both His hands are widely outstretched, giving [Muslims Jewish booty] as He pleases. Amongst them we have placed enmity and hatred till the Day of Doom. Every time they kindle the fire of war, Allah does extinguish it. But they strive to do mischief on earth."
"Those among the People of the Book, who disbelieve and are idolaters, would never have been freed from their false religion if the Clear Proofs had not come to them. An Apostle of Allah came reading out of hallowed pages.... They were commanded to serve Allah exclusively, fulfilling their devotional obligations, and paying the zakat. Surely the unbelievers and idolaters from the People of the Book will abide in the Fire of Hell. They are the worst of creatures."
"Curses were pronounced on the unbelievers, the Children of Israel who rejected Islam, by the tongues of David and of Jesus because they disobeyed and rebelled."
"You see many of them allying themselves with the unbelieving infidels. Vile indeed are their souls. Allah's wrath is on them, and in torment will they abide."
"If only they had believed in Allah, in the Prophet, and in what had been revealed to him."
"You will find the Jews and disbelievers [defined as Christians in 5:73] the most vehement in hatred for the Muslims."
"We sent a plague upon the Jews from heaven, for their evil-doing."
"We shall rouse Our (Muslim) slaves to shame and ravage you (Jews), disfiguring your faces. They will enter the Temple as before and destroy, laying to waste all that they conquer."
"They are a divided people devoid of sense. There is a grievous punishment awaiting them. Satan tells them not to believe so both of them will end up in Hell."
"It was He [Allah] who drove the [Jewish] People of the Book from their [Medina] homes and into exile. They refused to believe. You did not think that they would go away. And they imagined that their settlement would protect them against Allah. But Allah's [actually Muhammad's] (torment) came at them from where they did not suspect and terrorized them. Their homes were destroyed. So learn a lesson O men who have eyes. This is My warning. Had Allah not decreed the expulsion of the Jews, banishing them into the desert, He would certainly have punished them in this world, and in the next they shall taste the torment of Hell Fire."
"O Children of Israel, remember the favors I bestowed on you. So keep My Covenant so that I fulfil your covenant. Fear Me. And believe in what I sent down, confirming and verifying the Scripture which you possess already."
"Be not the first to deny or sell My Verses for a small price; and fear Me, and Me alone." [Another translation reads:] "Part not with My Revelations for a trifling price, getting a small gain by selling My Verses."
"[Jews] Perform prayer; pay the zakat tax; bow down and prostrate yourself with Ar-Raki'un (the obedient bowers). You read, recite, and study the Scripture. Why don't you understand? Nay, seek [Islamic prostration] prayer: It is indeed hard, heavy, and exacting, except for those who obey in submission."
"The [Jewish] transgressors changed and perverted the word from that which had been spoken to them to a word distorted; so We sent a plague upon them from heaven, for their evil-doing."
"Humiliation and wretchedness were stamped upon the Jews and they were visited with wrath from Allah. That was because they disbelieved Allah's Proofs, Signs and Verses and killed the prophets. They disobeyed and rebelled."
"But you [Jews] went back on your word and were lost losers. You know that you have broken the sanctity of the Sabbath, so We said: 'Become monkeys despised and hated.' We made this punishment an example and a warning for those who fear Allah."
"But woe to the Jews who fake the Scriptures and say, 'This is from God,' so that they might earn some profit thereby.' And woe to them for what their hands have written, and woe to them for what they earn from it.'"
"Yet they (Jews) say: 'The Fire will not touch us for more than a few days...but they are enclosed in error and are inmates of Hell."
"Do you [Jews] believe a part of the Book and reject a part? There is no reward for them who so act but disgrace in the world, and on the Day of Doom, the severest of punishment...their torment will never decrease!"
"The Book was sent to them (the Jews) by Allah verifying and confirming what had been revealed to them already (the Torah and Gospel). They used to pray for victory over the unbelievers - and even though they recognized it when it came to them, they renounced it. The curse of Allah be on those who deny!"
"When there came a messenger from Allah confirming what was with them, a party of the people of the (Torah and Gospel) Scripture Book fling away the Book of Allah, tossing it behind their backs, as if they did not know!"
"Quite a number of the People of the Book wish they could turn you [Muslim] (people) back to infidelity after you have believed [submitted], through selfish envy, even after the Truth has become manifest to them. Indulge them until Allah issues his orders."
"It was Allah who drove the (Jewish) People from their [Yathrib] homes and into exile. They refused to believe. They imagined that their strongholds would protect them against Allah. But Allah's Torment came at them from where they did not suspect. He terrorized them. Their homes were destroyed. So learn a lesson. This is My warning. Had I not decreed the expulsion of the Jews, banishing them to the desert, I would have punished them. They shall taste the torment of Hell Fire." Qur'an 59:4 "That is because they resisted Allah and His Messenger. If any one resists Allah, verily Allah is severe in Punishment."
"What Allah gave as booty to His Messenger, He has taken away from the Jews. Allah gives His Messenger Lordship over whom He will. Whatever booty Allah has given to Muhammad and taken away from the (Jewish) people of the townships, belongs to Allah and to His Apostle."
"The Jews will not unite and fight against you except from behind walls. They hate themselves. You would think they were united, but their hearts are divided. That is because these [Jews] are a people devoid of sense. Like those who recently preceded them [the Meccans at Badr], they [the Jews who were just sent into the desert to die] have tasted the evil result of their conduct. And for them a grievous punishment."
"They [the Jews] are like Satan when he tells man, 'Not to believe,' When (man) denies, Satan says, 'I have nothing to do with you. I fear Allah, the Lord of men and jinn!'"
"Both [Jews and Satan] will go into the Fire of Hell, dwelling therein forever. Such is the reward of the Zalimun (disbelievers and polytheists)."
"The likeness of those who are entrusted with the Taurat (Torah), who subsequently failed in those (obligations), is that of an ass which carries huge books (but understands them not). Wretched is the likeness of folk who deny the Verses of Allah."
"Say: 'You Jews! If you think that you are friends to Allah, to the exclusion of (other) men, then desire death, if you are truthful!' But never will they long (for death), because of what their hands have done before them! Allah knows well the polytheists! Say: 'The Death from which you flee will truly overtake you.'"
"You People of the Book! Why dispute you about Abraham, when the Law and the Gospel were not revealed till after him? Have you no understanding? Ah! You are those who fell to disputing (even) in matters of which you had some knowledge! But why dispute in matters of which you have no knowledge? It is Allah Who knows, and you who know not!"
"Abraham was not a Jew nor yet a Christian; but he was a true Muslim, surrendered to Allah (which is Islam), and he joined not gods with Allah."
"As for those who sell for a small price the covenant and faith they owe to Allah and their own plighted word for a small price, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter. Nor will Allah speak to them or look at them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He cleanse them: They shall have a grievous torment, a painful doom. There is among them a section who distort the Book with their tongues. (As they read) you would think it is from the Book, but it is not from the Book; and they say, 'That is from God,' but it is not from Allah: It is they who tell a lie against Allah, and (well) they know it!"
"Say (Muhammad): 'We believe in Allah and that which is revealed to us and that which was revealed unto Abraham and Ishmael, Isaac and Jacob and the tribes [of Israel], and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets, from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and unto Him we have surrendered, bowing our will (in Islam).'"
"If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (Surrender), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who are losers." Qur'an 3:87 "Of such the reward is that on them (rests) the curse of Allah, of His angels, and of all men, all together. In that will they dwell; nor will their penalty of doom be lightened."
"Allah took down the People of the Scripture Book. He cast terror into their hearts. Some you slew, and some you made prisoners. And He made you heirs of their lands, their houses, and their goods, giving you a land which you had not traversed before." [Version two:] "And He drove the People of the Scripture down from their homes and cast panic into their hearts. Some you killed, and you made some captive. And He caused you to inherit their farms, houses, wealth, and land you have not trodden."
These are just a few of the verses in the Quran which depict the Jews as a sub human species. There are a lot more such verses about them, as well as about the Christians, the Sabians (not sure what that really means) the pagans, the Zoroastrians... In fact, according to the Quran and Mohammed or Allah (they are one and the same, as everyone knows), Muslims are supposed to hate everyone and everything that is not Muslim, but Jews are on the top of that hate list. Do you know why? It is pretty simple, actually. They are smart, intelligent people and they did not buy Mo's cock-and-bull story about some angel coming down and giving him the message from God and making him a prophet. He just could not digest the fact that no matter how hard he tried to sell his story, the Jews were not buying it. Period.. So how did he retaliate? He got his Allah to send down derogatory verses against the Jews, and unfortunately his followers were dumb enough to believe that the kind and merciful God would actually hate the very own people he created. How could God say such cruel things about his most special people? His chosen ones? If only Mo's followers had a little more common sense, but alas, for the last 14 centuries, Muslims are blinded by the hatred and rage, which has been absorbed into their very souls against the Jews. The only way to overcome that is to liberate oneself from the evil clutches of Islam.
Around 30 cars were set on fire on Saturday night in Clermont Ferrand after tension over the arrest of a man on New Year's Eve continued to have repercussions around the city. 250 riot police, known as the CRS, were on duty on Sunday night in the south-east city to prevent further trouble.
Problems started after police arrested a man on New Year's Eve who was reported to have attacked them. Iranian Press TV give the man's name as Wissam El-Yamini.After a chase the 30-year-old man was allegedly thrown to the ground and handcuffed. He fell into a coma after suffering a heart attack while being taken to a police station.
Angry youths have staged repeated protests about the attack since then, culminating in cars being burnt on Friday and Saturday night.
Newspaper France Soir reported that the local police chief was determined to keep calm in the city.Francis Lamy said he would "not allow any no-go areas in Clermont-Ferrand."
Press TV further report that: Scores of young residents also staged a sit-in protest outside the city's police station, holding a banner that said “No one above law, stop burr, we are all with you Wissam”.
Muslim jailed for holding ex-wife prisoner on the toilet after blasting her western knickers as SATAN
A devout Muslim held his ex-wife prisoner on the toilet for an hour and physically assaulted her as punishment for wearing Western clothes. She was on the loo when her former husband burst in dressed in black, wielding a hammer and referring to her underwear as 'Satan'.
Miah, 35, covered her mouth with a gloved hand to stop her screaming, punched her in the chest and stomach then climbed on top of her, holding her in place, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard. He started haranguing her about her plucked eyebrows, shaved legs and highlighted hair, telling her she should not wear Western clothes and calling her knickers 'Satan'.
The couple’s three-year-old daughter woke up and started crying, but Miah refused to let Mrs Begum go and comfort her. After an hour she begged for her freedom and he relented, telling her to get in the bath.
He then took her into the living room, where the father-of-two said her hair would have to go. She agreed, not realising what he meant until he went into the kitchen, fetched a pair of scissors and started snipping it off into a carrier bag.
The defendant pocketed his ex-wife’s mobile phone, cut her landline and refused to let her leave the flat until 10am the next day, when she persuaded him she wanted to give the marriage another go. He agreed to phone her family and when they arrived at the address in Whitechapel, East London, Mrs Begum asked them to call the police.
Miah admitted false imprisonment and assault causing actual bodily harm. Miah, who works at Tesco in Bow, East London, has no previous convictions and had been on the supermarket’s fast-track management programme.
A 25-year-old man has been accused of plotting an Islamic extremist attack on night clubs in Tampa, Florida, with a car bomb, assault rifle and other explosives. Sami Osmakac, a naturalised US citizen from Kosovo in the former Yugoslavia, has been charged with one count of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. He is due to appear in court on Monday.
The federal complaint says that shortly before his arrest, Osmakac made a video of himself explaining his motives for carrying out the planned violent attack. Federal officials say a confidential source told them last September that Osmakac wanted al Qaeda flags. Two months later, the federal complaint said, Osmakac and the confidential source "discussed and identified potential targets in Tampa" that Osmakac wanted to attack.
Osmakac allegedly asked the source for help getting the firearms and explosives for the attacks, and the source put him in touch with an undercover FBI employee. . . allegedly told the agent that he wanted to buy an AK-47-style machine gun, Uzi submachine guns, high capacity magazines, grenades and explosive belt.
Osmakac told the agent that he wanted to bomb night clubs, the Operations Center of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and a business in Tampa. Osmakac told the undercover FBI agent that he wanted to detonate a car bomb and use the explosive belt to "get in somewhere where there's a lot of people" and take hostages.
'We all have to die, so why not die the Islamic way?'
An overwhelming majority of men convicted of rape in Stavanger in the last three years come from first and second-generation immigrant communities, a review of the city’s court rulings has shown.
Of the 20 men found guilty of rape, half were of African origin, five had Asian backgrounds, one had Polish roots and three were ethnic Norwegians, said NRK, which did not disclose the ethnicity of one of the men.
Police investigator Kristian Johansen said he was surprised by the figures . . . Stavanger district court judge Helge Bjørnestad said he was not surprised by the figures.
“I don’t think this is an arbitrary grouping. Unfortunately, it tallies with what we’ve seen,” he said. Bjørnestad added that it was important for the figures to be out in the open if there was to be a meaningful discussion on how best to prevent further rapes. “A perpetrator analysis can be absolutely decisive in many contexts. By pointing this out and discussing it, it becomes possible to use effective remedies. When choosing the remedy, you need to know who the perpetrator is,” said Bjørnestad.
Commenting on the skewed ethnic distribution of culprits, the judge said this could be partially explained by cultural differences. “There’s clearly an explanation that’s tied to views about women, respect, and integrity. But that’s hardly the entire explanation,” he said.
Norway has recently been seeking to fight back a rising tide of rapes, with the number of reported rapes by strangers spiralling to record levels last year.
Tampa Kosovar Immigrant Terrorist suspect: “We All Have to Die, So Why Not the Islamic Way
Sami Osmakac Tampa Terrorist Suspect
The FBI arrested, 25 year old, Sami Osmakac, a Kosovar Muslim immigrant and naturalized US citizen in Tampa who was caught in an undercover sting operation in a plot to bomb Tampa night clubs to do the maximum damage possible. The scenario was reminiscent of the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist group bombing in October 12, 2002 of a popular Bali, Indonesia nightspot frequented by Australians, in which over 200 tourists and Indonesians were killed. The scenario is also a variation on a swarming attack discussed in our June, 2009 NER article, about homegrown Somali terrorists, “Foot Soldiers of Islam.” The AP reported, “Sami Osmakac, naturalized US citizen from former Yugoslavia, also made a video explaining his motives shortly before arrest stating, “We all have to die, so why not the Islamic way?” Osmakac was arraigned in Tampa federal court this afternoon on charges of attempted terrorism. Osmakac was intending to carry out a car bombing. He had approached an undercover agent about acquiring an AK-47 assault rifle and Uzi sub-machine gun, a quantity of grenades and an explosive belt.
Here are the details of the AP report:
A 25-year-old man from the former Yugoslavia has been charged with an alleged plot to attack crowded locations in the Tampa area, including nightclubs, with a car bomb, assault rifle and other explosives, federal authorities said.
The US Department of Justice announced the arrest of Sami Osmakac, whose first appearance in federal court was scheduled for Monday afternoon.
Authorities say Osmakac is a naturalized US citizen who was born in the former Yugoslavia. He has been charged with one count of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.
FBI agents arrested Osmakac on Saturday after he allegedly bought explosive devices and firearms from an undercover agent. The firearms and explosives were rendered inoperable by law enforcement.
The federal complaint says that shortly before his arrest, Osmakac made a video of him explaining his motives for carrying out the planned violent attack.
Federal officials say a confidential source told them last September that Osmakac wanted al-Qaida flags.
On December 21, Osmakac met with the undercover agent and allegedly told the agent that he wanted to buy an AK-47-style machine gun, Uzi submachine guns, high capacity magazines, grenades and explosive belt. During a later meeting, Osmakac gave the agent a $500 down payment for the items.
"According to the complaint, Osmakac also asked the undercover employee whether he/she could build bombs that could be placed in three different vehicles and detonated remotely, near where Osmakac would conduct a follow-up attack using the other weapons he requested," the press release said. "The undercover employee said he/she could possibly provide explosives for one vehicle. Osmakac also allegedly said that he wanted an explosive belt constructed to kill people."
On January 1, Osmakac told the agent that he wanted to bomb nightclubs, the Operations Center of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and a business in Tampa.
Osmakac told the undercover FBI agent that he wanted to detonate a car bomb and use the explosive belt to "get in somewhere where there's a lot of people" and take hostages. During that meeting, the agent told Osmakac he could always change his mind about his plot.
"According to the complaint, Osmakac immediately shook his head in the negative and stated: 'We all have to die, so why not die the Islamic way?' “the press release stated.
Tampa has been a hotbed of Muslim Brotherhood activities and groups. It is where Sami al-Arian, a former Professor of Computer Science at the University of South Florida in Tampa, was convicted for raising funds for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. A divorced Pakistani Muslim woman was found dead in May, 2011 in a gated community there under mysterious circumstances that had the appearances of a possible honor killing. Recently, the DEA arrested the Mansour brothers - local used car dealers in Tampa - involved in a Hezbollah drug money for cars scheme, one of 30 such raids across the US. Tampa is also the home base of the US Central Command located at nearby MacDill Air Force Base.
A non related issue is under what auspices Sami Osmakac, the suspect in the terrorist plot, obtained his US citizenship. Specifically, was he granted asylum or entry under our humanitarian refugee system?
The Inevitable Happens, And Obama Has Only One Way To Defend Himself From The Charge That He "Lost Iraq"
Iraq's plight imperils US goals [these are and always have been, in Iraq, the wrong goals]
By BRADLEY KLAPPER, Associated Press
January 9, 2012
Iraq's troubled start to life without U.S. forces calls into question the Obama administration's assertion that it has wound down America's long war responsibly: at least 78 killed in blasts across the country in a single day last week, a protracted political crisis with no end in sight, top political leaders accusing each other of monstrous criminality.
An extension of the costly and unpopular deployment of American troops to Iraq may have only temporarily suppressed some of the tensions, but the heightened violence and political dysfunction illustrate the unfinished business the United States has left behind in Iraq. Nine years after American proponents of intervention predicted a cakewalk, a welcome mat and Iraqis singing and flying kites in a shining example of democracy for the Arab world, the U.S. is still struggling to finish the job.
It is unclear how much more help Iraq wants, either. Last month's send-off of the last U.S. soldiers was inauspiciously followed by Shiite Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki ordering an arrest warrant for the country's highest-ranking Sunni official, threatening to exclude the rival sect's main political party from his government and warning of "rivers of blood" if Sunnis sought an autonomous region.
The Obama administration is defending the military withdrawal from Iraq, after the two countries were unable to agree on whether American troops should be granted legal immunity. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said in an interview aired Sunday that "periodic acts of violence" in Iraq, like those seen recently, are not new and that the thousands of U.S. civilians working there can be safe under Iraqi protection.
"We're confident that we have an Iraqi government and an Iraqi security force that is capable of dealing with the security threats that are there now," Panetta told CBS "Face the Nation."
But President Barack Obama's decision is being attacked by critics during an election year.
"In all due respect, Iraq is unraveling. It's unraveling because we did not keep residual forces there," said Arizona Sen. John McCain, the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee. McCain also spoke on CBS.
Leading U.S. efforts, the State Department got $6.2 billion in Iraq funds for the year. Some $3.8 billion is for the department's operations, including for the deployment of several hundred diplomats, civil service experts and specialists in fields from agriculture and commerce to health and education. Hundreds more are needed for management, logistics and security support in a land still wracked by violence. Thousands of security contractors are also being employed. The Defense Department got an additional $11 billion to wrap up military operations and fund a leftover contingent of advisers and officials.
The total is a small amount against the backdrop of $1.3 trillion spent on Afghanistan and Iraq over the last decade. Yet it belies any notion that the U.S. and Iraq can easily — or cheaply — "normalize" a relationship that has more often than not been nonexistent over the last four decades.
In Baghdad, the Vatican-sized American Embassy stands like a city within a city, a reminder of the previous administration's ambitious vision of an ironclad U.S.-Iraqi alliance based on shared interests, peace and democracy. By far the biggest such U.S. outpost overseas and costing several hundred million dollars, the danger is it ends up being a symbol of U.S. isolation, its diplomats ensconced safely inside but unable to influence events beyond the fortress walls.
The Obama administration has maintained some of the optimistic Bush-era rhetoric for its vision of the future, while acknowledging that much depends on solving Iraq's immediate problems. When al-Maliki teamed up with Muqtada al-Sadr's hardline Shiite supporters, it guaranteed him the prime minister's office. The U.S. secured a role for Ayad Allawi's Sunni-led bloc after it won the most parliamentary seats, but key decisions on the legislation for the power-sharing arrangement were pushed off. Iraq's Defense and Interior ministries were similarly left for later. Now is later.
One legacy of the occupation that costs money to maintain but could be a key diplomatic tool is the distribution of American diplomats throughout the country. Instead of having all U.S. personnel pooled in the capital, and all its engagement efforts directed solely toward the prime minister and other central government leaders, Washington can simultaneously press the Kurds in the North and Sunnis and Shia at the regional level. While Vice President Joe Biden mobilizes his years of personal relationship with Iraq's political elite at the very top, officials staff consulates in Basra, Irbil and, since Christmas, Kirkuk.
The administration wants to begin lowering costs in Iraq further. The plan envisions local staff replacing Americans in security and logistics, and more food and fuel purchased on local markets. The shift would depend on a more peaceful environment prevailing and the country embarking on a surer democratic path.
But the challenge remains: Can the U.S., with its limited capacity to shape events in Iraq, help forge a culture of nation in a place that may remain too deeply divided among themselves? Al-Maliki's arrest warrant against Sunni Vice President and longtime critic Tariq al-Hashemi for allegedly organizing assassinations leaves the country divided at the upper echelons of government. If the schism reaches down to street level, Iraq risks sliding back toward the civil war-like violence of 2006 and 2007.
Administration officials acknowledge that Iraq is mired in its worst government crisis since Saddam Hussein's 2003 ouster, with no obvious answers for a political landscape crisscrossed by long-standing sectarian and regional rivalries, and newer schisms borne out of political maneuvering. The task is Iraq's now, they insist, with the U.S. only assisting. The main effort right now is focused on pressing Iraq's factional leaders into a meeting of the blocs, but even that first tentative step toward a possible breakthrough remains out of reach.
Getting each party to share in the dibs of power remains the conundrum. Almost two years after Iraq's last elections, and a year since the U.S. helped cobble together a government led by al-Maliki's Shiites and including a Sunni-backed bloc, the parties have yet to agree on who will lead the powerful police and military ministries. America may still wield influence, but it is waning.
For weeks, Washington has pushed hard behind the scenes to bring all sides back to negotiations and salvage Iraq's unity government. The U.S. feeling is that most political parties, unsure of how to solve their crisis themselves, still want America's counsel. Officials say leaders in Iraq know the U.S. remains the country's gateway to a world beyond Iran, and much needed international trade, investment and political support.
But without even a semblance of boots and guns on the ground, the stark truth that Washington hasn't been calling the shots for a while in Iraq has become even more apparent. American advice clearly wasn't heeded as Iraq's stability deteriorated after the U.S. forces departed on Dec. 18.
The administration isn't giving up hope and, frankly it says, it can't: partnership with an instable and democratically imperfect but oil-rich nation on Iran's doorstep is too valuable to abandon. However, getting there isn't cheap. A sense of responsibility also pervades, after a U.S.-led military intervention that sparked fierce internecine warfare and a deadly stream of terror attacks that has yet to be eliminated.
Thursday's bombings, presumably by al-Qaida, are a case in point. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland on Thursday called them "desperate attempts by the same kind of folk who have been active in Iraq, trying to turn back the clock." On the government impasse, she said American officials from Biden on down were actively "trying to support the Iraqis in settling their disputes peacefully through political means."
The doubts over Iraq are prompting more in Iraq and the U.S. to question whether there will be a time when Washington asks itself why it is bothering with a huge diplomatic outreach, especially if Iraq's splintered leadership isn't interested in listening. Some analysts are looking for more realistic, if narrower, U.S. goals and a clearer strategy to achieve them.
"The question now is whether Iraq is going to be a place for stability or instability, will it be a place where bad guys can do bad things, or a place with 30 million people and huge resources that is secure in its borders and helps stabilize the region," said Jon Alterman, Middle East director at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. "We don't know the answer yet."
