The Submission of Women in Islam
by Dr. Bill Warner
Islamic doctrine about women is the same as it is on all issues—duality and submission. Dualism demands a worldview that everything is seen not as a unified whole, but as divided. The primary political duality is the division between kafirs (unbelievers) and believers. The primary internal duality is the division between males and females.
The principle of submission means that one must rule over the other. No surprise, the women must submit to the men. more...

Finally, at least a segment of the western population is starting to understand the nature of Islamism. As an Iranian American, I have tried hard to shake some sense into my very naive, unknowledgeable, liberal friends. They have been gripped by the disease of political correctness on the one hand -- ESPECIALLY when it comes to Islam -- and virulant anti-Bush/Republican/conservative Christian hatreds on the other, which their leadership has droned into their heads, and they refuse to hear from even those of us born into Islam who know exactly what this ideology is based on and its ultimate goal. Islamism will bring NOTHING but ruin to whatever it touches, and the liberal leftists who so defend and support it now will ultimately be its first and most tragic victims, for Islam hates NOTHING MORE than those

Dear Dr Bill Warner
In the standard arabic qur'an, the verse permitting a husband to beat his wife (verse 4.34) which you quote in your article, does not contain the arabic equivalent of the bracketed adjective 'lightly', and that this is added by various translators to tone down the brutality of the qur'an. See http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/017910.php for more information.
Yours sincerely

Hello,
I am a Muslim and I read your article and found it interesting, and saw that you are having a good deal of info about Quran and Islamic history although I see that you have translated these info wrongly. I suggest that you conduct some sort of debates with Muslims to try to come to fair understanding for what you have mentioned.
Moreover if we read the Christian history and wanted to translate it in a wrong way too we can and we have many occasions to let us do so but you know what is the difference between Muslims and Christians? the difference is that we believe in Jesus and he is equal in prophecy to Mohammed and if we say wrong about Jesus we loose our faith which we are trying to hold it ,specially in our time with studies like yours around.

The last poster rightly asks about the reliability of translations. The Bible has its share of mistranslations, but the examples cited by Dr Warner are hardly few and far between.
There are several websites with multiple translations - often side-by-side, and at least one with separate translations from a fundamentalist and a more liberal viewpoint. Translators' biases can be found with a search.
I would disagree with that poster that the difference between Islam and Christianity is our view of Jesus. That is only one of the differences. We believe, for example, that Jesus is in fact the Son of God. The Koran refers to Him ans the Son of Mary (but not of Joseph). Our main differences seem to be contained in Dr Warner's article - our view of woman. The Catholic Church, for example, venerates Mary (the Bible says "blessed among women" (or "nations shall call you blessed")). Women are truly equal here. They can even drive cars and vote.
Another difference is our view of other religions - and of people with no religion. We do not convert by the sword - or by the jizyah. We may have, at one time, but the fact is, our last Crusade was 800 years ago. And while Islam conquered by the sword - extending from Spain to the borders of Tibet, Christianty conquered by its ideas.
There may be much good in the Koran. The problem is, first, anything other than Arabic is held to be second-rate - unreliable; and many groups - like the Taleban - have twisted its message to their own highly secular aims.

Hello,
I have read and found what Dr. Bill Warner is writing seems to go against true Islamic belief. I think that the doctor may have been misguided; that may be why he does not site any of his "facts" about Islam.
I will briefly give you the description of my understanding of women in Islam. By the way, I am a Muslim man. Woman are held in high regard in Islam. Woman are equal to a man in the eyes of Allah. They even have a luxury when it comes to certain aspects in life. Ex; A Muslim man if able must support first his family, then the poor, then his extended family, then his neighbors, then his people. The more money he has, the more he is responsible to take care of the world. A Muslim woman must be supported by her husband; if she works, she can choose to do what she wills with her money. Her husband cannot demand that she helps with anything including the bills. However, she can help if she wants to. The Messenger Muhammad brought respect and safety to woman. Islam requires that a contract be signed before marriage before or it will be considered invalid. The concept of a contract did not exist in Arabia prior to Islam because men at the time did whatever they wanted and woman had no rights. The contract was now another way to protect a womans rights. In Heaven, men and woman will have hoor, that is, men and woman will have the most beautiful of partners and will be living in gardens where rivers flow underneath them. If you study the history of Islam, you will see that the prophet's wives were the ones to preserve Islam after his death. Most of the Hadiths we have today exhist because the wives taught the people. This is women teaching other women as well as men. There are so many ways that a woman is elevated in Islam as you can see.
In Islam, women and men of all different color are equal to one another. Islam leveled the status field between the rich and the poor, the educated and the illiterate, the man and the woman, the king and the peasant. It is a blessing for the Human race so that we may know how to live amongst one another.
Finally, my advice to all whom have an interest in being educated in the REAL Islam: You should ask a Muslim scholar just as one who wants to know about Christianity should as a Priest what they have to say. Imagine if you found an engineer trying to teach you about medicine. You might question his knowledge or intentions on why he is teaching something he does not represent.
If you have taken the time to read this, thank you and good luck finding true answers in your life.
Islam is like the sun as people are like the reflected light of a prism. The sun emits one light which hits a prism and is diverted into many directions and changes color...This is a thought for thinking men...Keep that in mind when seeking your knowledge.
Thank you and have a blessed life,

Here are a few of the very many examples how Islam brought respect, honor, and protection to women. By the way, I am a Muslim man who respects women and these are some of the things that I, a Muslim man was taught about women.
Woman are held in high regard in Islam. Woman are equal to a man in the eyes of Allah. They even have a luxury when it comes to certain aspects in life. good day to you all,
In my opinion, this article lacks greatly sourcing. this will provide proofs for what has been discussed.
I'm a muslim myself and i'm proud of it and i'd like to mention that the topic about rape in islam is a falscification of what really happened during war. this goes also for the part about the prophet's sexual partner.
let me know if some quotations are added for these part as support, because i'd like to read them.
this doesn't mean i didn't like the article...I agree with most of the information.
keep up the good work :)
