I am surprised the Chancellor of the Exchequer is still called the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and hasn't yet been given some colourless Euro-monicker such as "Finance Minister". For now he is still the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and he's a Darling. Yes, Alistair Darling is his name.
"Alistair Darling." "Yes, Gordon, dear?" The long Parliamentary hours must fly by.
Alistair Darling is not the only important person with a silly name. Lord Adonis, A.K.A. Baron Adonis of Camden Town, is a silly name, especially as he isn't one.
Here's another, from Samizdata:
There is a great British tradition of highly competent people doing extremely serious things unencumbered by wild eccentricity or a very silly-sounding name. It is therefore a matter of considerable joy to me that 'our' defence forces are led by Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup GCB AFC ADC DSc FRAeS FCMI RAF.
Is he really the leader, or does he just play a supporting role?
