Professor Rubenstein. I am sorry for your loss and may you and Betty know no more sorrow. To the best of my memory your Death of God encounter began with a test of Job when an infant son was tragically lost. Thereafter, you became and remain one of the most important Protestant theologians who happens to be Jewish there is.

I am intrigued by the logic of your position. Why defend religious institutions and practices if you hold the belief behind them to be false?
What is the attraction of practices and institutions rendered meaningless by a repudiation of, in this instance, Biblical belief?
You might appeal to a certain emotional need in human nature, but without God's being real this need is as illusory as everything else in an atheistic universe.
I am sorry, but hard atheism is more consistent and more honourable than this clinging to the trappings of a beleif you no longer have, it is like a teenager pretending there is as Santa when he knows full well there is no such thing.
It is in fact whistling in the dark.
Unless you genuinely want to believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, in which case I suggest you have it out with the Almighty in person, as I have done, as Job did. Because He is real He will meet the questions, or make them manifestly irrelevant.
But this neither fish nor fowl clinging to a dead trappings of a faith rejected satisfies noone

I too, have a tumor in my head. Before I die I want to write a book, so move-ing it becomes a move-e. The world has writhed in the wind in it's last dying cry. Nothing makes sense anymore. Angels have mated with human women, donkeys talk, G-d made man and called it good. Then he saw that it was un-good and wanted to un-do the whole creation. In Malachi it says that G-d does not change.....well that must include His own desire to create man. Angels who have hidden knowledge actually chose to go a separate path from G-d. There were 2 Enochs---one walked with God; one didn't. The Sabbath was the only thing called "holy" in the whole of creation. Now, the L-rd wants a "holy" people. Well, as long as humans speak for G-d and G-d does not speak for Himself, there are going to be these life sacrifices. I don't think there are enough lambs to kill in all the world that will eradicate the unbelievable blundering of mankind. And if Jesus is the 'lamb" that was slain for all mankind, then he has to come soon before Islam blows all the "chosen" people to dust. This earth is G-d's; it says in Psalms. Later He said He gave it to humanity. What a waste. Who else better to ruin it. We ruined it over and over. We just don't get it. There were 6 million people killed in the Holocaust. Isn't it interesting how there are 6 million in Israel again. The Jews say Issac was to be sacrificed; Islam says it was Ishmael; Christians say it was Jesus. Blood--life blood. One way or the other....only the few make it to heaven without dying. To be born means that you have a death warrant placed upon your head. I personally am sick of the whole charade. No more chances. Time's up. If we have learned nothing else from history, it is this: Nothing.
