A beautiful first person account, eloquent, compassionate, erudite, heart-felt, at once tragic and expansive.
The story of the Turkana and their will to conquest, put me in mind of the Iroquois and their destruction of the more numerous and more powerful Hurons. Will to conquest, indeed.
But with respect to the angel of death, face it, Goeff: the angel was Plasmodium, your champion was science, not god, and the power deployed to your rescue was quinine and hygiene, not a supernatural hand.
