The good thing about this is that thousands of Christians, and not just Roman Catholics have heard the truth about Islam and not the cosy friendly 'Three Abrahamic faiths' fiction. They have heard that Allah has no children, that we humans are his slaves and not 'children of God', that those of us who follow our Lord Jesus Christ are merely 'cross worshippers'. If the pilgrims waiting for a glimpse of the Pope take home the knowledge of how Islam regards us, it will be no bad thing.

In the reporting of the alleged attempted attack on the Pope, I was amazed at the level of hatred in comments at online news sites, directed not at those Muslims who supposedly wanted to murder the Pope, but at the Pope and the Catholic Church. There were literally hundreds of comments spewing rank "Protocols of the Elders of Zion"-style conspiracy theories and wishes that the murder of the Pope by Muslims had been successful.
The same people who scold you for calmly pointing out quotations from the Qur'an and ahadith, and who lecture on the need for "tolerance", are the same ones who start frothing at the mouth when it comes to Judaism or Catholicism.
Criticism of religion IS socially acceptable, as long as the religion is not Islam.
