Crowns, Roses and Britannia Bookmark and Share

I am grateful for this  compilation of the poetry of pub names and placenames you have offered. Is there a dictionary of pub names that you would recommend, a book of lists to savor over oatmeal?

The book I refer to in the article is Green Men and White Swans by Jacqueline Simpson which is very good but concentrates more on the folklore behind types of name rather than listing names and towns.

Reader Mrs Hill recommended the book  "Introduction to Inn signs" by Eric R. Delderfield  in her comment to a previous article. She said her copy was old but I have recently found out that there was a new edition as recently as 2007. I have ordered it on Amazon and will report in due course.
