Boko Haram Claims Attack On Banks, Demands Withdrawal Of JTF

From The Times of Nigeria

The Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunnah Liddaa’awati Wal Jihad, popularly known as Boko Haram sect, yesterday claimed responsibility for the attacks on three banks where undisclosed huge sums of money were looted, because the Nigerian banking system were not operating in accordance with Islamic principles.

Speaking to journalists in a tele-conference in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, spokesman of the sect, Abu Zaid, justified their action as it was aimed at cleansing the “the infidels’ system of banking which had gone astray to the sharia legal code.”

He said since they started their vengeance attacked in June last years they only lost 19 of their members, adding that the claims of the JTF were not true and that the claim of the SSS that they arrest 1000 of their members is also lie

“Let me confirm to you that our warriors had actually attacked three banks, namely BankPHB, First Bank and Unity Bank and carted away huge money, we took the measure because the mode of operations of the banks were not established based on Islamic ideals”, Abu Zaid declared.

When asked if Islam allows anybody to forcefully snatch something from its original owner as they did after attacking the banks, Zaid said: “we had carefully investigated the affected banks and found that the owners and majority of its depositors were big men who siphoned public funds and kept there. Also we discovered that even if we take the money, government would definitely pay them same. We also raided the banks and take the money because this would not affect small depositors."

He stated that in as much as the banks continued operating contrary the Islamic code, monies snatched from them were “legitimate as we were out to eliminate all aspects human socio-economic affairs, which go against our faith. . . underrated our capability as we are determined to attack Aso Rock Presidential Villa”.

The spokesman further added that the group would only accept a temporary cease fire, when members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) are withdrawn from the streets of Maiduguri . . . “if government was sincere on the peace deal, it should withdraw the military from the state”.

"Boko Haram" always deserves a gloss. The members of this group, who take Islam to heart even more than other Muslims, reject Western learning of every kind as un-Islamic. For them,  "books are prohibited" except for One Book, the Qur'an.
