Artemis Gordon Glidden
Her father allowed her to live away from her husband? Without honor-killing her? That's unusually magnanimous of him.
And the "seizure" was a nice touch. I'm sure that will come into play in the trial, either as evidence of an underlying pathology that caused him to unknowingly strangle his dearly-beloved wife, or as a way to garner sympathy at sentencing.

Val
I am shocked at this occurrence right in my own neighborhood. If this is an issue of a woman's rights, then she should have had the right to speak out and be free of her unhappiness. I have spoken to her father many times, and thought he was a peaceful man. She may even be a mother, I am not sure. So sad.

Mightier Than Le Pen?
Or: Hour Of The Blue Wolf*
I just woke up after a nap better than could have been bequeathed by "Prince Valium" (hat tip Beetlejuice). One really (is "really" really an Americanism?) should not make sport of the above sad incident and given that, as has oft been noted by Hugh, many Muslims give the appearance of being peaceful, Val should be forgiven for not having cut down the father with a "Singing Sword."
King Richard The Lion-Hearted (nice/Nice lyin'/line/lion from 1066 And All That supplied by Mary, btw.) sparred with the somewhat chivalrous Saladin. Sadly, Sandela Kanwal was a victim of her father's sense of "honor." Whatever other punishments this "black knight" might suffer, here's hoping that he experiences many an uhtceare**.
*More applicable to a Turk than a Pakistani, and apologies to Ingmar.
**Pronounced, according to Professor Anatoly Liberman, "oot-cha-ROO", as in the "Gesundheit!" which could be said to a wascally sneezing dwagon.
