Plan for Muslim housing enclave in Sydney suburbs
From the Daily Telegraph
AN interest-free housing project aimed at the Muslim community and boasting 100 per cent halal housing has sparked a major row, with critics labelling it a discriminatory plan that could lead to a Muslim enclave.
Qartaba Homes' plan offers "100 per cent Halal housing to the growing Muslim community of Australia" in the heart of the northwestern Sydney suburb of Riverstone. While the company has insisted people from all religious backgrounds are free to take up the offer, it advises that the loans are "100 per cent Halal" and a "chance to escape Riba (interest)" because interest is a sin under Islamic law.
Qartaba Homes director Khurram Jawaid said it was the real estate deal of a lifetime, open to Australians of all faiths and backgrounds, but the state MP for Hawkesbury Ray Williams said the project was divisive. "I can only imagine the repercussions if a developer were to advertise a new Judeo-Christian housing estate; they would be hung, drawn and quartered," Mr Williams said.
Blacktown councillor Alan Pendleton said the community was concerned it could turn into an enclave. "There's great concern about ... what they consider could be an enclave. (There's a belief) you have to be a Muslim, otherwise they won't sell you a site," Mr Pendleton said
."Our philosophy is interest-free, pay as you own," Mr Jawaid said. "You don't have to go to a bank or a financial institution. It's open to everyone. From the business point of view, we can't do it that way (Muslims only)."
The company has bought the land from various owners, but Mr Jawaid said Muslim take-up of the offer was "not that overwhelming".

From what I understand, it's only a case of re-labelling. They don't call it interest, they call it 'a handling fee'. I don't know if you have to recieve the full amount when you sell, or if they deduct the original price. Also, from what I gather, it is like a rental agreement, so where does that leave the mortgagee's rights? Anyone know?

I'd advise the astute Mr Pendleton of Blacktown council, and the equally astute Mr Ray Williams, State member for Hawkesbury, to contact Mosquebusters (that is, the UK based Law and Freedom Society) and get some tips on how to find out whether this proposal has a potential mosque/ 'community centre' and/ or 'Islamic school' lurking somewhere in the fine print. Because I wouldn't be at all surprised if it did. And if it does, then they had better get to work.
I'd also advise Mr Pendleton and Mr Williams to look very carefully at what other sorts of non-Muslim installations - churches, or other historically and socially significant buildings - are in the area. Because Muslims tend to squat - and plank down their mosques, the bigger the better - as close to such things as they can - all the better to start the campaign of intimidation/ destruction further down the track.

BULLSHIT! BOLLOCKS! STRONZO!
Why are the Saudis always complaining about the high interest charges on the Saudi credit cards versus others? Obviously not because there is not such thing as interest in Saudi Arabia, or anywhere else in the world unless it's from your friends ot parents. Look at the site of Quatara homes and it jumps at you. They promise bery high returns for their investors. And as for their poor customers, that's a different story. 35% downs and the balance interes free - for two years. Average house price in Sydney $500,000. That translates to $175.000 down and $13,000 a month. Chickenfeed for the average taxi driver, janitor or welfare recipient, if the Sydney Muslim is like most other Muslim immigrants to the west.

The housing development is way out at Riverstone where there is a ton of land and hurting no one. Any one is entited to get one of the houses. A little bit of sour grapes Australia does not have interest free loans that is the problem. We have gated communities and the Jews were trying to get a special area over the north side similar to the Halal development. Much better beside Muslims that some of the public housing tenants you hear about. Very loud filthy tongue Australian mums and with uncontrollable children.
