�I Want To Live�- a film about the late Daniel Cantor Wultz
Earlier this week I got a call from Tom Trento, executive director of WatchObsession.org. Trento was in the midst of preparations for a trip to Denver to premiere the new film, “The Third Jihad: Radical Islam’s Vision for America.” He told me that he was sending me a link to a short film entitled “I Want to Live”. Watch it here. He wanted me to view the film, call him back with my opinions and thoughts on how the film might best be used. I did and held an extensive conversation with Trento about the film.
I opened the link to the film the first frames identified that the subject was about the short valiant life of 16 year old
Daniel Cantor Wultz. I was immediately engrossed emotionally. I had written about Daniel’s death on Mother’s Day in 2006 after 27 days of extensive life saving efforts in a hospital in Tel Aviv. A suicide bomber had detonated his back pack killing 11 people and injuring dozens, including Tuly, Daniel’s father, at Mayor’s Falafel Restaurant on April 17
th. In my
Israpundit post, I proposed renaming a pending piece of Congressional legislation denying US aid to Hamas in honor of the late Daniel Wultz. I noted:
This would be a fitting memorial to the memory of this valiant young Zionist and a message to his killers that we in America will not countenance the veneration of the death cult and Charter of Hamas that seeks to destroy the Jewish state of Israel.
Their message in this short film is an important one for American Jews and non-Jews to understand. You cannot engage in discussions with Islamic terrorists. You must deny them any opportunity to impose Political Islam in a Grand Jihad on our society. Ultimately, these fanatics will stop at nothing to take you life, as they did Daniel’s and thousands of others in Israel, Europe, and America on 9/11.
I asked Trento about Sheryl and Tuly Wultz, the parents of Daniel and daughter Amanda and a newborn son, Abraham. He told me that it was not easy for Trento and his production colleagues Ericka Pertiera, and Steve Reed to conduct the filmed interviews with the parents. Trento, who had gotten to know the Wultzs in the wake of the tragic death of Daniel, noted that they were tough. The mother, Sheryl, was a New York born lawyer by training and Tuly, an Israeli American, had been in Special Forces in the IDF. As Daniel had been their only son, they did something life affirming after his unfortunate and untimely death. They choose in their 50’s to conceive and give birth to another son, Abraham. Abraham is a legacy inspired by the beautiful memories of Daniel.
According to Trento, Daniel had done a mitzvah on the day of the heinous suicide bomber attack in Tel Aviv. He saved his father’s life. Trento noted that given Tuly’s training in IDF Special Forces, he knew instantly what would occur when the suicide bomber reached for the detonator for the 40 pounds of explosives in his back pack. He also knew that he was helpless to stop it. Daniel sitting across from him at the open air Falafel restaurant suffered grievous shrapnel wounds and was blown into his father’s lap shielding him from most, but not all, of the more deadly shrapnel that penetrated his son’s body. Not readily apparent in this film is that Tuly has suffered permanent scarring from his shrapnel wounds, loss of hearing in one ear and a permanent knee injury.
The Wultzs are a living example of Jewish American citizens who lost a beautiful, caring son, Daniel, on a family visit to Israel. The perpetrator was a deranged hate filled Palestinian Arab suicide bomber and drop out from Al Quds University. A young fanatic poisoned by hatred drilled into him from birth. He was filled with hatred of Israelis, hatred of Jews, mindless hatred of all unbelievers or kafirs. Tuly Wultz notes in this film, that the perpetrator’s mother went on al Jazeera satellite TV to say that she was proud that her son killed these ‘dogs’, including Daniel. She said during the interview that she would be proud if her daughters would become “shehadas" (martyrs in Arabic).
The purpose of the
Daniel Wultz Foundation is to educate Americans about the hatred that propels Political Islamic terrorism. The nihilistic terrorism that took their son Daniel’s life. For American Jews in the waning days of the current Presidential and Congressional campaigns, this film about Daniel Wultz is a cautionary tale about why one should be careful about casting a vote for the candidates on this issue.
Voting for those candidates who advocate ‘engagement’ with terrorists demonstrates weakness. The kind of weakness that led a deranged Palestinian Arab university drop out to strap on a backpack loaded with explosives, nails and bolts that took the lives of Daniel Wultz and 11 others at a Tel Aviv falafel restaurant on April 17, 2006.
