Our NER colleague Rebecca Bynum drove down yesterday evening from Nashville to speak at an American Freedom Defense Initiative protest rally with Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller outside the Manchester - Coffee County Conference Center. The protest rally was scheduled for 5:30PM. When she arrived at 5:00PM 150 people were already present, some with posters and even a booth selling “Sharia for Non –Muslims”. A protester carried a home made sign saying, "Just Say No! to Islam". By the time the program started at 6:30PM, the hall was filled to overflowing with an estimated 500 inside. There were an estimated 750 left outside milling around. The neighboring Holiday Inn parking lot was full with more vehicles arriving.
There was both uniformed and plain clothes security inside and outside the hall. As relayed in comments from Bynum and others who were inside, the audience was outraged. They came to disrupt, the proceeding sponsored by the American Muslim Advisory Council of Tennessee (AMAC). The "Diversity and Public Disclosure" program featured presentations by U.S. Attorney for Eastern Tennessee, Bill Killian, and Knoxville FBI Office Special Agent, Kenneth Moore, along with members of the AMAC board and allies from the Tennessee Immigrants and Refugee Rights Coalition. According to an audience member less than 12 Muslims appeared at the forum.
While the audience was disruptive, Bynum told me they were prepared and knowledgeable. One source told of military that came down from Fort Campbell, Kentucky especially to attend this event. Members of the contingent commented to one audience member, “We fought this in the sandbox against Sharia, and we came home to find that it is happening here and now.” Many in the audience were veterans and of a similar cast of mind. US Attorney Killian and FBI Special Agent Moore told the audience that if you defame Islam and engage in hate speech towards Muslims that you will be prosecuted to the fullest. Killian gave a power point presentation on what constituted hate speech under US law. He read off a list of White Supremacist and extremist groups probably provided by the Southern Poverty Law Center as exemplars of who the government was on the lookout for. FBI Special Agent Moore told the audience they were endeavoring to protect Muslim children from hate. At one point he noted that after 9/11 the FBI even hired Muslims as translators to which someone in the audience cried out, “yeah, but you didn't hire Jews!”
Ms. Sabina Mohyuddin, the AMACTN organizer of this event actually told the booing crowd to “shut up and listen to me!” As an audience member commented in an email , "it was like throwing oil on the fire." The audience booed the documentary, “Welcome to Shelbyville” depicting the community reactions to and absorption problems of Somali Muslim workers at a nearby Tyson’s Poultry plant. The rest of the AMAC speakers were either inarticulate or drowned out. The audience basically shut down the program when it came to the controlled Q+A, as no open mike was permitted. That was when the audience began to bail in disgust that our government was assisting in promoting Muslim victimhood in America. Daring to enforce OIC blasphemy codes under the guise of prosecuting hate speech. Make no bones about it. The heartland of America was outraged last night in Manchester, Tennessee. According to a local journalist friend, given the calls they were receiving from colleagues across America, the event last night in Manchester had sent a warning across the nation.

The know-it-all economist Jeffrey Sachs wrote an ill-timed paean to the Erdogan regime only a few days before mass protests erupted, under the title: “Why Turkey is Thriving” (http://po.st/VD1GVM). His name can be added to the list of Western academic poobahs who’ve lost their compass when encountering “trains-run-on-time” authoritarians in the Mideast. (No joke: he hails Turkey’s “high-speed intercity rail network.”) One of his former (Turkish) teaching assistants has explained why Sachs has it all wrong (title: “Why Turkey is NOT Thriving,” http://bit.ly/17lJmQV). Money quote: “Sachs is the latest in a long line of celebrities who have recently declared their love for Turkey, or at least to Istanbul… [They] never see Istanbul’s ugly face: Their hotel is conveniently located away from the maddening traffic. They would not even be aware of the latest alcohol bans. They never get tear-gassed.”
BEIRUT: Over 4,000 fighters from Lebanon’s Hezbollah have reached the northern Syrian city of Aleppo as part of military preparations to retake the rebel-held city, a spokesman for the Free Syrian Army told The Daily Star Tuesday.
“The number of Hezbollah members who have entered Aleppo has exceeded 4,000,” Louay Meqdad, the FSA spokesman, said.
“They are stationed at the Military Engineering Academy in what seems to be preparations for an attack on the city of Aleppo,” he added.
The FSA spokesman said some 800 members of the Lebanese resistance group were staying at a student campus located in Hamadanieh, southeast Aleppo.
Despite the large number of Hezbollah fighters, Meqdad said he did not foresee a change in the balance of power in the war-ravaged city, more than half of which has been under rebel control since 2012.
“Hezbollah’s participation in Aleppo’s battle will not affect the balance of power because the opposition forces are well barricaded in their positions,” he said.
According to Meqdad, Hezbollah’s military involvement in Syria showed that Syrian government forces were unable to confront the FSA by themselves.
“The expansion of Hezbollah’s military operations in Syria to Aleppo confirms that the regime’s troops are exhausted and need support,” he said.
Hezbollah has admitted to participating in military engagements in Syria, namely against the rebel-held town of Qusair near the border with Lebanon. The party alleges its intervention in Syria aims to protect the resistance group as well as defend Lebanon from the threat of takfiri groups fighting in Syria.
The number of Hezbollah fighters in Syria is unknown.
France said last week its intelligence services believed between 3,000 and 4,000 Hezbollah members were fighting alongside Assad's army in Syria. Other reports have mentioned the presence of around 10,000 Hezbollah fighters in the war-torn country.
Meqdad estimated the presence of about 10 to 12,000 fighters that were either members of Hezbollah or foreigners who had been trained by the resistance group.
He said some of the combatants were from Iraq who had been recruited and received training by the Lebanese resistance group.
On the situation in Qusair, Meqdad said Syrian rebels were vacating areas targeted by Syrian airstrikes but then soon returning to these locations to carry on with the fight.
“When they return, they re-engage Hezbollah fighters and regime troops and then restore control of the neighborhood,” Meqdad said.
“This is why the regime always claims it has taken control of the same neighborhood more than once,” Meqdad, noting the rebel tactic of temporarily retreating from an area, said.
He also said rebels held the advantage in Qusair, given their knowledge of the town and its neighborhoods as well as support from residents.
Last month, Hezbollah’s leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, declared his fighters were committed to the conflict in Syria.
"We will be the ones who bring victory," Nasrallah said.
And no more misplaced sympathy for the "brave Iraqis who helped us" (the money was very good) in Iraq by working as interpreters, and who now have a full-time lobby consisting of the sentimental who think admission to the United States is equivalent to a party favor, to be distributed as one distributes confetti, or candies, at a party.

Trial begins for fourth Iraqi charged in connection with violent sexual assault
After sipping from a drink in a stranger's apartment, the woman blacked out.
When she awoke hours later, it was in her own bed, and she lay in a pool of her own blood and fecal matter - the result of a sexual assault so violent, police say she could have died without medical help.
An El Paso County jury on Tuesday heard an overview of the Colorado Springs woman's July 2012 ordeal as a trial began for Sarmad Fadhi "Levi" Mohammed, one of five Iraqi immigrants implicated in the attack.
All were recently brought to the U.S. with the help of military members after assisting U.S. troops in Iraq, either as translators or intelligence sources.
Accused of forcing the woman, who is in her 50s, to perform oral sex as she lay dazed or unconscious on a couch, the 26-year-old Mohammed is charged with sexual assault and faces the potential of life in prison if convicted.
During opening statements Tuesday, prosecutors Mike Allen told a jury that while Mohammed didn't injure the woman, he is responsible for concocting a cover story for Colorado Springs police to hide the identity of the man who did.
"Why did he do that?" Allen asked after pointing a finger at the defendant. "To protect his friend, Jasim Ramadon, and to protect himself."
Ramadon, 21, is accused of using his hand to violate the woman, inflicting severe injuries. He is awaiting trial on sexual assault charges. Three other men accused of perpetuating the cover story have since been convicted of misdemeanors - one after a partial mistrial, two as a result of plea bargains.
Defense attorneys say Mohammed played no part in the attack - only that he briefly displayed his genitals as part of a running gag among the group of friends, all in their 20s.
According to attorney Eric Anaya, Mohammed wasn't even paying attention as Ramadon was flirting with the woman over drinks until their physical activity grew sexually explicit - at which point he kicked Ramadon out.
When Mohammed and his roommates were summoned to the Colorado Springs Police Operations Center the next morning, Mohammed assumed it was about a fight that occurred the same night, and told his friends to lie about the circumstances, Anaya said. It wasn't until his interrogation by detectives that he learned of the woman's injuries, the attorney said.
"He told the truth about what was going on and he did so as soon as he found out," said Anaya, who took a skeptical view of the woman's claim to police she was drugged, implying she was actually drunk.
According to pretrial hearings, Ramadon appears poised to blame Mohammed for inflicting the injuries.
His trial has been held up while the Colorado Court of Appeals considers an appeal filed by prosecutors seeking to overturn a ruling by 4th Judicial District Judge Theresa Cisneros that tossed out evidence in Ramadon's case.
The disputed evidence includes videotaped statements by Ramadon that Cisneros ruled were inappropriately obtained by Colorado Springs police.
Ramadon, who also goes by the name Jay Hendrex, was brought to the United States from Iraq in 2004 through the help of Fort Carson soldiers for whom he acted as an informant. His story of coming to the country is detailed in the book "A Soldier's Promise," by Army 1st Sgt. Daniel Hendrex.
Mohammed's trial is expected to last up to two weeks.
Defense attorneys in the case have said the men's names and pictures have been circulated among jihadist websites, and say the men could be killed if they are deported as a result of the case. [ah, an all-purpose excuse to prevent deportation of Muslims -- the "extremists" will get them]
A poster child for amphibian extinction has turned up alive and bearing a scientific secret in Israel.
The Hula painted frog, once thought extinct, has turned up in Israel very much alive, biologists report.
And the amphibian represents a "living fossil" species as well, a lineage of frogs otherwise thought to have vanished.
"In 1996, this frog was the first amphibian species to be declared by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) as extinct," begins the Nature Communications journal report led by Rebecca Biton of the Hebrew University of Israel. Amid increasing concern over loss of amphibian species worldwide, the frog, "became a poignant symbol of extinction for Israel," the study says.
But in October of 2011, a patrol in the Hula valley wetlands turned up a male frog of the species, one of 10 more, male, female and young, spotted since then. However, the frogs seem to only live in one pond in the valley, part of a swamp drained in past decades.
Analysis of the frogs suggest they belong to a line of European frogs that vanished in past Ice Ages. The scientists call for more study of the species to gain insight into what bumped off [wrong, and offensive, phrase] the rest of their kind.
"The survival of this living fossil is a striking example of resilience to severe habitat degradation during the past century by an amphibian, and may imply on [surely: "have implications for" is the correct translation] the future survival of this species," says the study, especially if more of the former swamp in the frog's valley is reflooded.

U.N.: Nusra Front in Syria gains recruits after announcing tie to al Qaida

The rebel Nusra Front in Syria appears to have gained recruits and equipment since pledging allegiance to al Qaida, according to a U.N. report released Tuesday that depicts a widening and increasingly sectarian conflict.
The more than two years of bloodshed in Syria has “accelerated radicalization,” allowing Nusra in particular to become more influential among Sunni Muslim extremist groups throughout the region, especially now that the Shiite Muslim fighters of Hezbollah are so visibly backing President Bashar Assad’s regime, the report said.
Religious and sectarian extremism is worsening on both sides as tactics grow more savage, the report said, with sharp rises in hostage taking, the use of underage combatants, sexual violence and forced displacement. The report, compiled by an international panel of inquiry on Syria for the U.N.’s Human Rights Council, covers the period from mid-January to mid-May and was based on more than 400 interviews and other evidence.
“The parties to the conflict are using dangerous rhetoric that inflames sectarian tensions and risks inciting mass, indiscriminate violence, particularly against vulnerable communities,” the report warned.
The U.N. report also said there were “reasonable grounds” to think that chemical agents had been used as weapons. But it added that “the precise agents, delivery systems or perpetrators could not be identified.”
The report’s release came only hours before France announced that tests it had conducted on samples from Syria pointed to the repeated use of the lethal nerve agent sarin, but Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius offered no details of where or by whom the gas purportedly was used, and U.S. officials said they still didn’t have enough evidence to draw a definitive conclusion.
“We need more (evidence) and we need to build on it,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said.
The language in the U.N. report was far more concrete on other aspects of the war, giving grisly, detailed accounts of the now-commonplace brutalities suffered by Syrians. At least 17 incidents that meet the definition of a massacre were recorded in the four-month period the report covers. Both parties to the conflict had carried out those and many other atrocities, the panel found.
On the regime side, there are lurid descriptions of men being rounded up arbitrarily, tortured with electrical shocks and held in vermin-infested prisons so overcrowded that detainees are forced to sleep standing up. The report also notes that the regime and its affiliated militias use sexual violence against their opponents.
Another regime tactic is “forced disappearance,” in which Syrians are seized at random, sometimes never to be heard from again or, for example, turning up among the 200 bodies that were dumped in Aleppo’s Queiq waterway.
On the anti-government side, it’s not just the Nusra Front and its fellow jihadist groups that are blamed for battlefield excesses. The U.N. report noted that rebels in general were using underage fighters in operations; at least 86 children have been killed as combatants, half of them this year alone.
The report offered no good guy-bad guy narrative – indeed, the rebels were blamed for many of the same tactics as the regime, including kidnappings, torture, arbitrary detention, looting seized homes and sectarian targeting, especially of the Alawite religious sect to which Assad and many of Syria’s elite belong.
In February, for example, unidentified rebels abducted a Sunni man in Damascus, mistaking him for an Alawite officer. He was tortured and subjected to sectarian epithets, the report said, before he finally convinced his captors that he wasn’t Alawite. He was released, but he still had to pay a ransom.
The more gruesome sectarian-tinged activity comes, however, from extremist groups such as Nusra, which the State Department has designated as a branch of the group al Qaida in Iraq. A series of recent “trials” by Islamist extremist rebels ended predictably: “Captured Alawite soldiers were consistently found guilty and executed, while non-Alawites were imprisoned or released,” witnesses told the U.N. panel.
Though facing some backlash in Syria, the Nusra Front remains popular among jihadist sympathizers and might be the reason for a noticeable recent influx of foreign volunteers, according to the U.N. report.
“Foreign fighters with jihadist inclinations, often arriving from neighboring countries, continued to reinforce its ranks,” the report said.
The panel’s report squares with the front-line observations of Elizabeth O’Bagy, an analyst with the Institute for the Study of War, who returned Saturday from spending more than two weeks observing rebel commanders in opposition-controlled Syrian territories.
O’Bagy said she’d noticed two changes in jihadist involvement since her last trip two months ago. The first was that the Nusra Front was far less popular among fellow rebel groups than before, with commanders grousing that it was a foreign-backed organization that was turning out to be more trouble than help.
The second change, O’Bagy said, was a marked increase in the number of foreign fighters – and the fact that they no longer were integrating with and being absorbed into Syrian rebel brigades. That points to the emergence of a more independent jihadist movement that might be much harder to uproot than Nusra, which was known for working in tandem with other fighting groups.
“These were fully compartmentalized units of foreign fighters that seemed to be doing their own thing, not integrating at all with the other groups,” O’Bagy said.
Sunni and Shiite Muslims Get Ready to Slug it Out...Not in Syria or Iraq But In Sydney and Melbourne Suburbia, Australia

Since I have no doubt that he viewed Australia - full of non-Muslims, including dirty Christian dogs like me - as part of the dar al Harb, the Zone of War, I think that he constituted a menace to me and mine, and I think it a very good thing that he is dead, dead, dead in Syria, instead of being able to come back here and - mayhap, one day - use his combat experience against Australian infidels. - CM'

Of course, we do not know what kinds of threats are being dished out by the likes of him, to Alawites (who are not at all numerous in Australia, the Sunni Muslims comprise the single largest bloc amongst the Ummah colony here), and for that matter, to emigre Christians from Syria. I would advise the ABC's earnest journalists to go and talk to the Syrian Christians here, especially the most recent arrivals, and ask them how they are doing. - CM

'Jamal Daoud, a high-profile community leader in Western Sydney, says the situation is becoming 'very vicious'.

I have not written anything until now about the events of Saturday when leadership suggested that EDL supporters might like to walk silently through their local town and leave flowers in memory of Drummer Rigby on their town's War memorial. Some things are best done privately. I joined friends at one such War Memorial in an Essex town. It was quietly and decently done; red and white flowers were laid by the young son of one of the supporters. They joined flowers left by others in the preceeding days.
There was no UAF presence opposing us. However in other towns the tribute was interpreted as a 'Far Right march' and steps were taken to obstruct the highway. In Colchester passage to the War Memorial was blocked. The police forced a way through the scrum to permit one lone member of the EDL to lay the wreath. I am told that the flowers were being guarded by a police officer as they left the area.

THE Deputy Lord Mayor of Oxford has criticised anti-fascist campaigners for an “unruly” protest against a far right group at the city’s war memorial. Liberal Democrat Tony Brett said the Unite Against Fascism demo in St Giles showed “hate” to a planned event by the English Defence League (EDL).
Oxford City Council member Mr Brett said the protesters “jeered” at people and "floral tributes were squashed and badly damaged". There was “no sign” of EDL banners, clothing or “behaviour” he said, adding: “What I saw was a loud and unruly bunch who were showing hate towards what seemed to me to be a peaceful and lawful act of remembrance. . . I actually saw those from Unite Against Fascism sitting on the memorial.
“I saw this group holding a rowdy protest and two of the members took wreaths. It seems to be me they were doing exactly the kind of thing they are supposed to be protesting against.”
OUAF has created an online petition calling for Mr Brett to stand down. Twitter users have also criticised Mr Brett for attending the event. Green party councillor for University Parks Sam Coates called for an immediate apology. Ian McKendrick, spokesman for OUAF, said Mr Brett’s remarks were “divisive and unhelpful”.
From the looks of this picture it is possible, just possible, if you are very charitable, that the flowers were damaged by over-exuberant carelessness, because in their excitement to bash the fash they forgot to watch their feet.
This video of events in Sheffield is a different kettle of fish. It is quite clear that the UAF, in cahoots with Muslims wielding the black flag of jihad are deliberately destroying the flowers already on the memorial. This isn't a repeat of Prague 1968 when freedom fighters put flowers in the guns of the Russian tanks. or Morrissey or Dame Edna throwing gladioli to an adoring audience. This is poppy burning with fresh blooms.
Gang preyed on young girls who were â€˜starved of affectionâ€™, court told

Men from Chadwell Heath, Newham, Barking and Dagenham were all part of an east London child prostitution ring that preyed on vulnerable teenage girls from a care home, a court heard today.
The group are accused of a range of offences, including attacking a girl at a hotel in Ilford last year.
Nabeel Ahmed, 24, of Chadwell Heath Lane, is charged with three counts of rape and denies all the offences. His brother Jameel Ahmed, 25, of Neville Road, Dagenham, denies two counts of rape. They were allegedly part of a group of five friends that preyed on six girls between the ages of 15 and 18 between October 2011 and December.
Naeem Ahmed, 25, of Westminster Gardens, Barking, who is not a relation to Nabeel and Jameel, denies five counts of rape against two victims, controlling child prostitution, paying for the sexual services of a child, inciting child prostitution and causing prostitution for a gain.
Anas Iqbal, 25, of Newham Way, East Ham, denies five counts of rape against one alleged victim, one of attempted rape against another and paying for the sexual services of a child. Hassan Raza, 23, also of Westminster Gardens, Barking, denies a single count of sexual assault.
Prosecutor Kate Bex told a jury at Snaresbrook Crown Court today that Nabeel Ahmed attacked a 17-year-old girl with two other men at Park Hotel, in Cranbrook Road, Ilford. Ms Bex told the jury Nabeel raped the girl while her alleged pimp Naeem, held her down. Jameel raped the girl immediately afterwards, she said.
Ms Bex said the alleged victim had been coerced into prostitution by Naeem, who she had met while living in a care home. She added: “The men concerned in the grooming of such young people prey on [their emotional vulnerability] – they are fully aware that they have been starved of affection and use this as a way to feed their own criminal means.”
Nabeel lured his second victim into his car by offering her a lift after seeing her argue with a friend, the court heard.
ISTANBUL — “HISTORY shows that if nations cannot manage to win all together, they are destined to lose all together,” declared Turkey’s prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the first anniversary of his 2007 re-election. “We defend freedom, justice, democracy and welfare for everybody.”
Back then, he promised that his Justice and Development Party, known by its Turkish initials, A.K.P., would embrace all sections of society regardless of political affiliation. He even thanked those who didn’t vote for him.
Five years later, Mr. Erdogan is facing growing criticism for disrespecting people’s lifestyles and interfering in their personal choices. His government has drafted and passed bills without public consultation. A law on restricting alcohol sales was passed on May 24 in Parliament via a last-minute amendment.
And then, two weeks later, again without public consultation, he began the demolition of a popular park as part of a controversial urban renewal plan for Taksim Square. The small-scale sit-in opposing the demolition morphed into mass nationwide public demonstrations after the police used excessive force against protesters.
How could a skilled politician as smart and experienced as Mr. Erdogan, who has been able to overcome a number of political crises in the past, including a threatened military coup in 2007, fail to see the bigger political picture?
In the past few days, Mr. Erdogan has claimed that those rallying against him were mobilized by the country’s opposition parties, especially the ultrasecular and ultranationalist bloc led by the Republican People’s Party (C.H.P.). He said the issue was not the park but a concerted political campaign against him by those who opposed his policies on partisan grounds. This was understandable given that his opponents have ignored the A.K.P.’s landmark achievements for the sake of partisanship in the past.
However, a quick look was enough to confirm that the opposition that took over Taksim last weekend was different. It was a largely nonpartisan movement made up of liberals, conservatives, independents and even likely A.K.P. voters. Their cause was later overshadowed by some violent groups, who dealt a serious blow to the public image of the protests through vandalism, looting and attacking women wearing head scarves. Yet the initial sit-in group, as well as those participating in the broader protests that followed, represented a broad cross section of society.
Mr. Erdogan has remained defiant, but there have been critics of his handling of the crisis within his own party. Among them was Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc, one of the heavyweights of the A.K.P., who said authorities should have communicated with the protesters instead of tear-gassing them. He also openly praised a local administrative court that issued a stay on the Taksim project amid the continuing protests on Friday. And Turkey’s education minister, Nabi Avci, observed on Monday that the government had done what the secular opposition parties had not been able to achieve for years: within five days, the police crackdown brought together masses who had been incapable of uniting against the government. It even managed to unite the fans of three archrival Istanbul soccer teams, which were engaged in a fierce fight for a championship just a few weeks ago.
The protests are hitting Mr. Erdogan at an inopportune time. He has been campaigning for a constitutional change that would give broad executive powers to the currently ceremonial presidency, raising concerns over how checks and balances in this system will be ensured if he runs for the post before his self-imposed three-term limit expires in 2015. When the demonstrations erupted, he had not yet persuaded the nation to switch to an executive presidential system, but the Turkish public has learned in Mr. Erdogan’s more than 10 years of rule that he sooner or later succeeds in whatever he plans to do.
Now many people, including his supporters, opponents and prominent intellectuals, are voicing concerns over the proposed presidential system. The recent protests are likely to complicate Mr. Erdogan’s calculations for a presidential run, as it may be difficult for him to persuade and eventually garner the support of the crowds he has so far refused to listen to.
In contrast to Mr. Erdogan’s dismissal of the protesters as “plunderers,” the Turkish president, Abdullah Gul, struck a different tone on Monday, telling reporters that “democracy is not just about elections” and that the protesters’ “message has been received. What is necessary will be done.” Deputy Prime Minister Arinc also adopted a conciliatory tone and apologized for the excessive use of police force while Mr. Erdogan was traveling abroad on an official visit to Morocco.
Tensions have eased slightly, but nothing will be the same for Turkey after these protests. Although Mr. Erdogan still argues that the majority of the nation is behind him based on his party’s recent internal polls, he would be wise to keep in mind the masses on Istanbul’s streets before making any future decision concerning people’s personal lives.
Mr. Erdogan was shown a yellow card in Istanbul; it is a warning to return to his reformist agenda and to open up channels of communication with all segments of society, including those who didn’t vote for him. Those in the opposition who wish to see him given a red card and ejected from office will have to wait until the next election in 2015 — unless Mr. Erdogan finds a way to ascend to the presidency before then.

Peering over my son’s shoulder as he forced himself through a pile of practice IGCSE maths papers in readiness for this week’s exams, I was shocked both by the absence of pounds sterling and by the ardently international imaginary first names dreamed up by the question-setters. That ‘I’ stands for ‘international’ — and goodness, you’re not allowed to forget it.
‘Nyali paid $62 for a bicycle.’ ‘Alejandro goes to Europe for a holiday. He changes 500 pesos into euros at an exchange rate of…’ ‘Abdul invested $240…’ ‘At 05 06 Mr Ho bought 850 fish at a market for $2.62 each…’ ‘On 1 January 2000 Ashraf was x years old. Bukki was 5 years older than Ashraf and Claude was twice as old as Ashraf…’ At the sight of the final question, ‘Felipe stands 7 metres from a bridge’, I couldn’t help envisaging Felipe as a boy in suicidal mood, having had to navigate both this gruelling maths and the zealously multiracial landscape.
Bukki, Ashraf and Claude. Oh, I see: their names begin with ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’, perhaps on purpose. For any imaginative teenager, though, it’s hard not to be distracted from the mathematical essence of the question by the temptation to flesh out this imaginary threesome: Ashraf the Arabian boy, Bukki the African boy, and Claude the P.G. Wodehouse character. As for Mr Ho, who gets up on the dot of ‘05 06’ to go to a market to buy far too many fish, paying dollars for them: what’s his story? A shopkeeper in Hong Kong?
I rang the headquarters of the Cambridge IGCSE exams to ask whether their exam-setters are given a list of acceptable names and acceptable currencies, as well as following the strictly international house style (long numbers are written in the international comma-less way, e.g. 580 000 000). Their press officer Adele Williams explained that IGCSEs are taken in 140 countries by 3,700 students, and numbers went up by 27 per cent last year. From Indonesia to Malaysia, from India to the USA, as well as in Britain, teenagers are sitting these papers, and it would be inappropriate for them to portray Amelia, Barnaby and Christopher going to buy sweets for £2.50, or James going on a 16-mile bike ride from Cambridge to Ely.
Do maths exam questions need to be adorned with imaginary characters, shop names, and foodstuffs at all? They used not to be. I remember our 1970s GCE O-level ones being bald and lacking in colour. ‘Three Christmas presents cost £23.80 altogether. The first cost twice as much as the second, which cost three times as much as the third…’ No mention of whether it was Peter or Alejandro who bought the presents, or what they consisted of. ‘A, B and C are three places at sea-level.’ ‘Two boys calculate the area of a circle…’ ‘An aircraft is flown from its base A…’
The lack of colourful detail made the questions more scary, but at least they weren’t dressed up as friendly, as they are now, when candidates have to wade through the top layer of story to get to the brutal essence of the question beneath. The commands in those days were terrifying. O-level maths papers in the 1960s and ’70s consisted of a succession of imperative verbs. ‘State’, ‘prove’, ‘evaluate’, ‘find’, ‘solve’, ‘construct’, ‘show’, ‘differentiate’, ‘verify’, ‘plot’. No one pretended this was any fun.
But if you search hard enough through those colourless 1970s questions, you occasionally come across bursts of real life which bring you up short. In a Joint Matriculation Board O-level paper from 1974, full of lifeless questions about going from A to B via C, I suddenly came across this: ‘A certain woman’s “vital statistics” are in the proportion 12:9:13. Given that the second measurement is 63cm, calculate the other two.’ I couldn’t help imagining bearded maths dons from Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Birmingham Universities (who devised that Joint Matriculation Board paper) salivating over this imaginary woman’s curves. (Or is she actually rather barrel-like?) I worried that a small bespectacled 15-year-old swot in 1974 might have had no idea what a ‘vital statistic’ was, and would guess that it was just a very important bit of maths.

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. —
A Sandy Springs cosmetics school student claims she's being treated unfairly by school leaders because of her religious beliefs, and a civil rights group agrees.
Sherquoia Smullen converted to Islam last month and wears a customary veil over her face most of the time.
“In the Quran, the only things that are supposed to be out are your eyes, your hands and your feet. Everything else is sacred,” she told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik.
Smullen said last week, the director of the International School of Skin, Nail Care and Massage Therapy on Roswell Road called her into the office to question her about her appearance.
“(She) asked if I’m going to be wearing this thing every day,” said Smullen. “I was like, ‘Are you serious?’ I was like, ‘It’s part of my religion.’”
Smullen said the director told her she would need to get written documentation from her religious leader, or imam, that she has to wear the veil.
“It bothers me,” she said.
Petchenik confronted school officials about Smullen’s concerns, and they defended their actions.
School Director Jennifer Young told him the school has a strict dress code policy that all students must obey and that students who want to wear religious garb contrary to the dress code must account for it.
“It is clear they must present from their religious organisation documentation proving that is the case,” said Young. “We adhere 100 percent to all compliance rules, both on a state level and a federal level.”
Young declined to speak specifically about Smullen’s case, citing privacy laws.
Anti-Defamation League Southeast Region Director Bill Nigut said the school may be violating a Fulton County ordinance dealing with religious expression.
This case is a similar to that of the hijabette hairdresser, refused a job in a salon which required staff to display its "funky" and "urban and edgy" hairstyles. Like Bushrah Noah, Smullen is well-versed in the victim and rights culture, and expects an un-Islamic environment -- and a cosmetics course is surely that -- to adapt to her. Neither make sacrifices for Islam -- the sacrifice must be made by the infidel.
Despite this outrage, I am inclining towards a modified version of Sharia, in which death by stoning is retained -- not for adultery, but for anyone who adulterates the language with the execrable "I was like".
For a decade, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has had a tight grip on power. But it suddenly looks to be weakening. Thousands have taken to the streets across the country and the threats to Erdogan's rule are many. His reaction has revealed him to be hopelessly disconnected.
The rooftops of Istanbul can be seen in the background and next to them is a gigantic image of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Turkey's powerful prime minister is watching over the city -- and is also monitoring the work of the political party he controls. At least that seems to be the message of the image, which can be found in a conference room at the headquarters of Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP).
These days, though, Istanbul is producing images that carry a distinctly different meaning -- images of violent protests against the vagaries of Erdogan's rule. And it is beginning to look as though the prime minister, the most powerful leader Turkey has seen since the days of modern Turkey's founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, might be losing control.
As recently as mid-May, Erdogan boasted during an appearance at the Brookings Institute in Washington D.C. of the $29 billion airport his government was planning to build in Istanbul. "Turkey no longer talks about the world," he said. "The world talks about Turkey."
Just two weeks later, he appears to have been right -- just not quite in the way he had anticipated. The world is looking at Turkey and speaking of the violence with which Turkish police are assaulting demonstrators at dozens of marches across the country. Increasingly, Erdogan is looking like an autocratic ruler whose people are no longer willing to tolerate him.
For years, Erdogan seemed untouchable and, at least until the recent demonstrations began, was the most popular politician in the country. He entered office amid pledges to reform the country and introduce even more democratic freedoms. In his gruff dealings with foreign powers, he gave Turkey a new kind of confidence. He broke the grip on power held by the country's old elite, he kick-started the economy and he calmed the conflict with the country's Kurdish minority.
But one thing got lost in the shuffle: Democracy. Success made Erdogan even more power-hungry, thin-skinned and susceptible to criticism. Indeed, he began governing in the same autocratic style for which he had bitterly criticized his predecessors. And now, he is faced with significant dangers to his power from several quarters.
The biggest danger facing the Turkish premier is his own high-handedness. Though he said on Monday that he understood the message being sent by the protesters, there is little evidence that is true. Indeed, his response thus far has shown the degree to which he has become distanced from realities in his country. With hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets, Erdogan has opted for confrontation rather than de-escalation. On Monday morning, he threatened that he would be unable to keep the 50 percent of Turks who voted for him from taking to the streets themselves. Critics see the comment as nothing less than a threat of civil war.
He said that he won't allow "a handful of plunderers" to dictate policy. He also branded the marches as being ideological and said that they have been "manipulated by the opposition." Twitter, he said, is the "greatest threat to the society." Such sentiments are reminiscent of those Arab dictators who were overthrown in the Arab Spring of 2011.
Erdogan has recently shown a complete inability to gauge the anger of the country's Kemalists. He recently offended the secular followers of Atatürk with comments regarding a law aiming to reduce the consumption of alcohol. During a party meeting, Erdogan painted a rhetorical picture of an alcoholic populace: He spoke of police who continually find empty bottles in people's cars, of husbands who beat their wives and of fathers who are a poor influence due to their consumption of beer.
Most pointedly, however, he asked if Turkey wanted to follow a law passed by two drunks or the law of God. Since then, the country has been filled with speculation as to who Erdogan may have been referring to. Many believe it was an attack on Atatürk and his Prime Minister Ismet Inönü, who were in office when the ban on alcohol in the country was lifted in 1926. Furthermore, Atatürk is rumored to have died from cirrhosis of the liver. As such, Erdogan's comments are seen as an attack on a national hero.
But it isn't just the Kemalists who are now venting their rage at the Turkish prime minister. Demonstrations have been reported in more than 40 cities, and they are drawing more than students and intellectuals. Families with children, women in headscarves, men in suits, hipsters in sneakers, pharmacists, tea-house proprietors -- all are taking to the streets to register their displeasure.
Thus far, no opposition party has sought to claim the protests as its own. There have been no party flags, no party slogans and no prominent party functionaries to be seen. Kemalists and communists have demonstrated side-by-side with liberals and secularists. Simply calling them all "marauders and extremists," as Erdogan has sought to do, will not be enough.
Another threat may also be lurking. In Istanbul, people have begun whispering that the military is distributing gasmasks -- but to the demonstrators rather than to the police. The message is clear: The military supports the protests.
The story is certainly consistent with the Turkish military's traditional role in society. The generals have long seen themselves as protectors of Atatürk's legacy and as protectors of a secular Turkey. Indeed, the military has staged three putsches in its history to guarantee Kemalist values: in 1960, in 1971 and again in 1980.
Erdogan, to be sure, has done his best to reduce the military's power. He has removed some officers and had others locked away, convicted of conspiracy. It is difficult to predict how the military might now react to the protests. But Erdogan certainly cannot rely on them remaining in their barracks.
Even within his own party, the AKP, Erdogan's rule has become contentious. Turkish President Abdullah Gül, likewise of the AKP, has been careful to distance himself from Erdogan's comments over the weekend that citizens should express their opinions at the ballot box. Gül responded that "democracy doesn't just mean casting a ballot."
Turkish law prohibits Erdogan from running for another term. In response, however, he appears to be leaning toward the model followed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Erdogan is currently seeking to increase the powers of the Turkish presidency, preparatory to taking over the position himself in 2014. Not everyone in the AKP is behind the plan and speculation of an internal power struggle is rife.
On Monday morning, after a weekend full of some of the most intense protests Turkey has seen, Erdogan spoke yet again, saying he suspects that "foreign powers" are behind the demonstrations and that Turkish intelligence is investigating. "It is not possible to reveal their names, but we will have meetings with their heads," Erdogan said, according to the English version of the Turkish daily Hürriyet. The strategy is transparent: The prime minister is doing all he can to portray the protests as an attack on Turkey.
Erdogan is hoping that will be enough to keep the situation under control for now. This week he embarks on a trip through North Africa. And, after a visit to Morocco, the Turkish premier is scheduled to visit Tunisia -- where not so long ago, the people rose up against their autocratic ruler.
Andy Miller of TFC:â€œThereâ€™s an effort to step on free speech â€” any speech thatâ€™s contrary to Islam.â€�
Fox News Radio commentator, Todd Starnes has an update on the controversy about tonight's American Muslim Advisory Council of Tennessee event at the Manchester Tennessee Coffee County Conference Center featuring US Attorney for Eastern Tennessee Bill Killian and Kenneth Moore, FBI Special Agent in the Knoxsville office, "DOJ Warns Anti-Muslim Rhetoric Could Violate Law". Killian tries to rebut critics of the event as somehow not about Sharia but about Muslim civil rights. Andy Miller of the Tennessee freedom Coalition lays it on the line about the US DOJ pushing erosion of protected free speech in the US, starting in the Buckle of the Bible Belt.
Note Killian's comments in opposition to vocal critics like Miller and others:
“It has nothing to do with Sharia law,” Killian told Fox News. “It has to do with the United States Constitution and federal statutes. You have a right under the First Amendment to hate Muslims. You can hate all Muslims if you want to.”
But he added a caveat — “as long as it does not rise to the level of violating federal civil rights laws.”
“It’s an open forum to discuss the First Amendment — to discuss its application to all religions and to Muslim religions,” he said. “And to discuss federal civil rights statutes which we’ve done at other times and other places.”
Killian said the federal government has participated in at least a dozen similar Muslim education meetings across the state.
Miller, disagrees about what the USDOJ's agenda is all about with this latest episode in Tennessee:
But Andy Miller, of the Tennessee Freedom Coalition, believes the federal government is using those meetings to silence and intimidate critics of Islam.
“There’s an effort to step on free speech — any speech that’s contrary to Islam,” Miller told Fox News. “It seems like our federal government is going down that path.”
Miller said Tennessee has become a battleground over what he called a crackdown on anti-Muslim speech.
“This is the Bible Belt,” he told Fox News. “There’s an effort to prove that if they can do it here, they can do it anywhere.”
Killian said the supposition that the federal government would prosecute people for exercising their constitutional rights is “ridiculous.”
“We don’t prosecute people for the First Amendment,” he said. “In fact, this event is promoting the First Amendment for all people – not only to exercise their religion, but to express their freedom of speech regardless of what it is.”
But the big question is where free speech might cross the line and violate federal civil rights laws.
“Could an Internet posting or letter in the mail or a phone call or a personal confrontation constitute a violation of those statutes,” he asked, citing 18 US Code 241 and 18 US Code 245. “Yes, it could.”
So what about the lawmaker who posted the photograph of the shotgun? Would that be a violation of federal law?
“I don’t know whether it does or not,” Killian told Fox News. “We’re treating that as if it were offensive conduct and trying to use this event as we have on many other occasions in the district — utilize events of this nature to have people understand the Muslim religion and the Arab and Muslim people.”
Miller isn't buying Killian's arguments:
“It doesn’t make anybody here locally feel any better,” he told Fox News. “It seems as though they are creating a sacred group here that consistently gets attention from the federal government.”
“It’s interesting the Department of Justice and Homeland Security really seem to take up the banner for the Muslim population,” Miller said. “Why aren’t they having one for the Baptists? Why aren’t they having one for the Methodists? Why aren’t they having one for Jews?”
We are with Andy Miller on this. Killian and the USDOJ is perpetuating the line that by former Assistant Attorney General for civil rights,Thomas Perez, currently engaged in a tough confirmation fight in the US Senate to become Secretary of Labor.
On October 7, 2010, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, Thomas E. Perez, paid a visit to the US Attorney Nashville office and met with local Muslim groups including members of the board of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro (ICM). Perez told the group that included the Imams the both the ICM and Nashville mosques that “his office has their back if it turns out that opponents aren't as interested in zoning esoteric as they are in sidelining the practice of Islam in Murfreesboro.”
"Basically, what we're being told is that if there's any civil violation of the rights of the Muslim community here, they'll step in," says Abdou Kattih, vice president of the ICM, who also met with government officials.
Killian appears to be following the doctrine that Perez laid down while in charge of civil rights matters at the USDOJ. In the conclusion of our NER artilce from June 2012 we noted:
On the national level it is clear that the USDOJ is the prima partes agent for furthering the banner of "Muslim civil rights" as exemplified by the pronouncements of Attorney General Holder and the direct actions of Assistant Attorney General Perez. The latter are poised to impose Shariah blasphemy codes under international human rights resolutions in violation our First Amendment guaranteeing the right to criticize a religion, any religion. . . . Arousing the American public about Muslim blasphemy trumping free speech should be a concern for all citizens who believe in the First Amendment of our Constitution.
HATE preacher Anjem Choudary has been filmed claiming murdered soldier Lee Rigby will “burn in hellfire”. He also told followers that Michael Adebolajo, accused of killing Lee in Woolwich, South London, is “a nice man”.
Police have repeatedly failed to arrest Choudary over his inflammatory outbursts.
Vile Choudary told his followers Lee deserves no sympathy — but insisted those accused of his barbaric murder are martyrs. The extremist preacher was caught on film claiming Drummer Lee, hacked to death in the street, would be tortured in hell for not being Muslim.
He added: “Allah said very clearly in the Koran ‘Don’t feel sorry for the non-Muslims. So as an adult non-Muslim, whether he is part of the Army or not part of the Army, if he dies in a state of disbelief then he is going to go to the hellfire.That’s what I believe so I’m not going to feel sorry for non-Muslims. We invite them to embrace the message of Islam. If they don’t, then obviously if they die like that they’re going to the hellfires.”
Choudary, filmed speaking on Friday at his office near Walthamstow mosque in East London, refused to condemn Lee’s alleged killers. He said: “As far as they are concerned I believe that they were doing what they believed to be Islamically correct. Only Allah can judge them in the hereafter for what they did in their life. In their eyes they are martyrs and what I say is Allah may accept them into paradise. I believe all Muslims will eventually go to paradise.”
Choudary also launched a disgraceful attack on Help for Heroes — the Armed Forces charity whose top Lee, 25, was wearing when he was singled out for attack in Woolwich, South London.
He said: “Who’s the hero exactly? The person who’s out in Afghanistan killing innocent women and children? What kind of world are we living in? The rest of the world doesn’t think that they’re heroes. I think we need to wake up to the reality. Hello, he’s not a hero if he’s out in Afghanistan shooting children is he?”
Choudary said the killing of Lee was “a drop in the ocean” compared to the wrongdoing of the British government.
Choudary was also full of praise for Michael Adebolajo, 28, who along with Michael Adebowale, 22, is accused of murdering Lee.
The preacher, calling Adebolajo by his Muslim name Mujahid, said: “I knew him for a number of years. Mujahid was a very nice man in fact. He attended lectures, went to demonstrations. There is no difference between him and many others who attended our activities.”
Choudary, who ran outlawed extremist group al-Muhajiroun, has been repeatedly accused of encouraging impressionable young Muslims to become terrorists. Despite numerous calls for his arrest, he remains at large.
And before that, within the last half-century, two other Muslim Arab states have used poison gas against their enemies.
Muslim Arabs in Iraq used poison gas against two different enemies ini both the 1980s and 1990s.. Saddam Hussein's military employed poison gas against the iranians during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war. And then, within Iraq, the Sunni Arabs used poison gas against the Kurds, most famously at Halabja.
In the mid-1960s, in the proxy war fought in Yemen between Egypt and tSaudi Arabia, that is between leftist Arabs and monarchists, with each country backing a different side in Yemen, Egypt's military, with Nasser's approval, gassed enemy troops.
So in the past half-century, all over the world, only three countries have used poison gas against those, foreign and domestic, they wished to kill.. Those countries are Egypt, Syria, Iraq, countries whose peoples are suffused with Islam. Think about that.
'Dies Gloriae', XXIII: From The Saint Of Lightning To The Saint Of Peace
Imagine for a moment or two, if you will, that you are a member of a group of people, or a club, or some organisation or other that brings its members together regularly in one place. Now imagine that you have joined the other members of your imaginary organisation in your regular place of meeting.
With me so far?
Now imagine that the space that you have always met in is just getting too cramped to hold all of you because the membership of your imaginary circle has grown over the years.
What do you think you would do about that theoretical situation?
Would you –
a) Divide the membership into two groups and have each group meet on a separate day or at a separate time?
b) Find a larger meeting place to rent or buy whilst implementing some temporary solution such as, but not necessarily, (a)?
c) Hold the meetings regardless of discomfort and cramped conditions?
d) Allow members to spill out of the meeting place onto the pavement (sidewalk) in some orderly fashion that didn’t impinge on other people’s ability to pass by so that the meeting could go ahead in comfort?
e) Encourage members to spill out of the meeting place across both the pavement and the road in any old fashion and deliberately impede other people’s ability to pass by whilst the meeting is going on?
f) Take the action described at (e) whilst complaining, or appearing to complain, to anyone who will listen, but especially to media reporters, about how small the meeting space is now that the membership has spectacularly increased?
Most of us, I believe, would opt for (a) or (b) or (c), maybe, at a pinch (d), but very few of us would even consider any of the other options.
Why, then, do Mohammedans regularly and unfailingly decide to exercise option (g)?
Whenever they decide that some building or other that they have been using as a mosque (a place where Mohammedans indulge in their satanic rituals) is too small for their needs they suddenly and spontaneously take to using the pavement and the highway as an outdoor extension to their meeting space.
Only it isn’t really sudden, it’s carefully planned, and it’s certainly not spontaneous. In all likelihood such apparently sudden debouching onto the roadway and pavement is also absolutely nothing to do with overcrowding, either.
Mohammedans routinely infringe on both public and private spaces for their prayer activities. This is done regardless of whether or not there is a problem with overcrowding in whatever building that they are using, because it is important for Mohammedans to be seen by others to be engaged in their devil worship and to assert their dominance and their sense of ownership of any space that they can. This sort of behaviour is, as you have probably worked out for yourselves, indicative of the two major psychological conditions that afflict almost all Mohammedans, but especially those who take their vile belief system seriously, namely their overweening narcissism coupled with their sense of being somehow inferior whilst believing that they should be superior so that they have to act as if they were (basically, they feel that they have to act like bullies in order to assert dominance).
These twin psychopathic behaviours are engendered in them by the appalling, but also risibly ridiculous, teachings contained in a book that they call the ‘koran’, which was supposedly written by some so-called prophet or other about fourteen hundred years ago whose name was, apparently, Mohammed – from which name we derive the name that we call them, for they worship this man and say, ludicrously, that he was perfect, when, in actual fact, he was a murdering psychopath, a rapist and a child molester (if he existed at all), and more than likely, as many Christians and others believe, a demon sent from the pit of hell to corrupt mankind into evil.
The laughably stupid behaviour of trying to bully a takeover of any outdoor space that they think they can win was drawn to my attention by my colleague, Esmerelda, a couple of months ago, She sent me a couple of links to an article about a priest of the Episcopal Church in Scotland who, seemingly, opened his church to the disgusting Mohammedans because he found them praying in, and on, the street – see behind this link and also behind this one. Naturally, I decided to look into the matter a little further.
Before I continue, let me just put the minds of my fellow Christians at rest. The priest in those reports has not been so foolish as to let the Mohammedans actually conduct their satanic rites inside the church, but he has, instead, made a church hall available to them. That’s foolish enough, I’ll grant you, but it’s not as foolish as he could have been. However, I did some more digging and discovered that, in all probability, the Mohammedans were lying, as usual, about the overcrowding in their building and that their takeover of the street outside their habitual meeting place was sudden – it went from no Mohammedans praying in the street one Friday to over forty praying in the street the following Friday. Naturally, they wouldn’t let anyone into their building to check their claims of overcrowding whilst they were actually indulging in their devilish rituals and afterwards they successfully moved so many people around in such a confusing mass that no-one could actually ascertain whether or not what they claimed was true – this is, I have subsequently learned, a tactic used by Mohammedans everywhere when they try to take over the streets and intimidate the non-Mohammedan indigenous population. I understand that the police were called when the Mohammedans first blocked the road, but that they declined to do anything since Mohammedan ‘rights’ had to be respected – obviously over and above the rights of anyone else, it seems – and that is the same story that one hears over and over again wherever Mohammedans use this nasty little trick.
I wondered why, however, the devious Mohammedans had decided to pull their little space-grabbing-intimidate-the-locals trick in Aberdeen of all places. It’s one of the most cosmopolitan and laid back cities in the U.K. thanks to it being the city that has had all the oil industry for decades. So, I did some more digging and apart from the false claims of overcrowding I found out something very interesting. Within just a few hundred yards of the Mohammedans’ usual meeting place there isn’t just Saint John’s Episcopal Church, but also an Orthodox church, a Chinese Christian church, a Masonic Lodge, a Methodist church, a Seventh Day Adventist church, a Roman Catholic church, a Quakers’ Meeting House and all the usual parish churches of the presbyterian Church of Scotland, not to mention a couple of churches belonging to the extremely protestant and joyless Free Church of Scotland. There are also several small communities of Asian people who are decidedly not Mohammedans.
In other words, the centre of Aberdeen is a hotbed of Christian worship and anti-Mohammedan immigrant communities, and the Mohammedans found themselves to be vastly outnumbered there. Needless to say, this fact triggered the usual Mohammedan psychopathology and they must have decided to make their presence felt by intimidating the local population in the only way that they thought that they could get away with – space-grabbing. They reckoned without the foolish, but Christianly kindly, Father Isaac Poobalan. He, the poor credulous dupe, actually believed the Mohammedans’ claims to be stowed out in their meeting place, and he insisted, with great kindliness and Christian charity, that they use the hall attached to his church.
Unintentionally, the Reverend Father Isaac has spiked the Mohammedans’ guns, it would seem – I doubt that he has the nous to have done this deliberately. I daresay that the Mohammedans are busy plotting and planning their next move, but for now all is quiet.
Mohammedan trickery of the space-grabbing-intimidate-the-locals kind is endemic all over Europe. One of their favourite tricks is to make sure that far too many Mohammedans actually turn up at any given meeting place – the article behind this link demonstrates that trick very nicely, although the reporter of that piece took the Mohammedans at their word – they were subsequently found to be lying, as usual – the pictures below might give you some little idea of the problem:

There are, of course, much more egregious floutings of the law going on all over Europe than those few pictures can adequately show you. On any given Friday millions of Mohammedans attempt to block as many streets as they can and as often as they can. On other days, too, at the times set for their ludicrous devil-mandated rites, they attempt to block pavements (sidewalks) and roadways as often as they can. The situation is so bad in some cities that politicians are actually thinking about bringing in laws to regularise the situation – although some brave cities, like Paris, have actually attempted to ban the practice of on-street Mohammedan rituals. The situation in the U.K has gone from bad to worse ever since it signed a Memorandum of Understanding and a Framework Co-operation Agreement with the O.I.C. last year (see behind this link).
Paris, as I mentioned, has taken a stand against the trickery of the Mohammedan invaders. In France a law was passed in AD2011 that prohibited blocking roads and praying in the streets. However, the Mohammedans immediately defied the law and millions of them turned out and blocked more streets than ever. The French police are extremely reluctant to enforce the law – they are actually defying the government and the parliament over this, as well as over some other legislation designed to bring the Mohammedans under control – and the situation has scarcely improved since the law was passed. In the rest of Europe the police and the politicians do nothing and the indigenous peoples continue to suffer and have their lives disrupted by the Mohammedan devil-worshipping invaders. On that note, let us turn our attention to this weeks saints – not a few of whom suffered at the hands of the demonic Mohammedans whilst opposing their stomach-churningly awful and completely uncivilised belief system.

We don’t actually know when or where he was born, but the latter was sometime in the mid-third Christian century . It is certain that he was the Bishop of Formiae in what is now Campagna in Italy, but much else that is attributed to his story is nought but the pious fictions that that are recorded by Jacobus de Voragine in the ‘Golden Legend’ (see Footnote (4) at Dies Gloriae XXII) and in many places those tales confuse him with a Bishop in Syria called Erasmus of Antioch.
He is venerated as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers (details behind this link) and we do know that he was martyred for refusing to stop preaching the Faith. We don’t know exactly how he died, but it seems fairly certain that he was tortured first and that he was murdered in some horrible way, even for the Roman authorities, in the persecutions of the ancient Roman Emperors Diocletian and Maximinian round about AD303.
Pope Saint Gregory the Great recorded in the sixth Christian century that the relics of Erasmus were preserved in the Cathedral of Formia (the town where Cicero died and is buried). However, the old Roman Formiae was razed to the ground by the Mohammedan brigands and thieves in AD842, and the cult of Erasmus, and his relics, was moved to Gaeta (pdf brochure behind this link). He is currently the patron of Gaeta, Santeramo in Colle and Formia as well as a Patron against abdominal pains, against appendicitis, against birth pains, against childhood intestinal disease, against colic, against danger at sea, against intestinal disorders, against seasickness, against stomach diseases and against storms, and a Patron Saint of ammunition workers, boatmen, childbirth, explosives workers, mariners, navigators, ordnance workers, sailors, watermen and women in labour.

However, for most of us Saint Erasmus’ fame rests on the fact that Saint Elmo’s Fire was named by sailors in his memory. Saint Elmo’s Fire is a weather phenomenon in which luminous plasma is created by a coronal discharge from a sharp or pointed object in a strong electric field in the atmosphere, such as those generated by thunderstorms or created by a volcanic eruption. Saint Erasmus may have become the patron of sailors because he is said to have continued preaching even after a thunderbolt struck the ground beside him. This prompted sailors, who were in danger from sudden storms and lightning, to claim his prayers. The electrical discharges at the mastheads of ships were read as a sign of his protection and came to be called "Saint Elmo's Fire" by them, and eventually by all of us.
Saint Erasmus was murdered for Faith and today he is rightly remembered as a saint.
On the third of June we should remember Saint Isaac of Cordoba. He was born into a wealthy Christian Córdoban family circa AD825 and, he was well educated and fluent in Arabic which helped him rise quickly to the position of exceptor rei publicae (notary) in the illegal government of the ivading Mohammedan horde of vagabonds and thieves. He resigned in order to become a monk at his family's monastery at Tábanos, a few miles from Córdoba. During a public debate that he had been dragged into aginst his will at Cordoba he denounced Mohammed and was executed for it in the usual barbarous and intolerant Mohammedan fashion that we see even today, in AD852.
Today, also, we must remember the many saints and saintly people who were burned alive on the orders of King Mwanga of Uganda in AD1886. The Martyrs of Uganda were twenty-two Ugandan converts who were murdered in the persecutions of King Mwanga. They are:

Finally on this day we must commemorate Saint Urbicius, who is also called Urbez, Urbitius, Urbex, Urbiz, or Urbice. He was born at Bordeaux in France sometime in the middle of the ninth Christian century. He is often confused with an earlier Saint Urbicius who, together with Saint Liphardus, founded the monastery of Meung-sur-Loire in the sixth Christian century.
Today’s Saint Urbicus was a monk in France who was captured by the Mohammedan robbers and raiders who were active across the south at the time, and then taken as a slave to the Mohammedan illegally occupied area of the Iberian Peninsula in what is now modern Spain. He escaped, and became a hermit in the Pyrenees Mountains near the town of Huesca in Aragon. He died in AD805 of natural causes in his hermitage. The Ermita de San Úrbez monastery near Huesca is named after him.
Huesca is, of course, famous for the story of the Bell of Huesca, which describes how Ramiro II of Aragon, known as 'the Monk', managed to bring his recalcitrant nobility to heel in a very bloody fashion. The town was taken back into rightful Christian hands in AD1096 by Peter I of Aragon, brother of ‘the Monk’.

A monastery dedicated to Saint Urbicius was established was in the vale of Nocito, in the municipality of Nueno in the Province of Huesca in Aragon in Spain, in the twelfth Christian century on the site of the saint's hermitage (Santuario de San Úrbez or Ermita de San Úrbez). The church housed his relics, which were almost entirely destroyed in the Spanish Civil War. What remains are still housed in the monastic church.
Urbicius was revered as a saint in his lifetime and people made the arduous journey through the dangerous valleys of the Pyrenees in order to consult with him. He successfully confounded the disgusting Mohammedans and their plan to keep him as a slave and his reputation as a Christian monk who had to escape from the vile creatures added to his reputation. Today, he is rightly remembered as a saint.
On the fourth of June I am going to memorialise Saint Edfrith, who was also known as Eadfrith, of Lindisfarne (whom I mentioned under the entry for Saint Ethelwald, Edfrith’s successor on Lindisfarne, on the twelfth of February in Dies Gloriae VII). Edfrith's life is obscure prior to his becoming bishop in AD698, but we do know that he studied in Ireland and was trained there as a scribe, an artist and a calligrapher. It seems almost certain that he alone wrote and illuminated the vast bulk of the Lindisfarne Gospels, which can now be seen in the British Library. His masterpiece is dedicated to Saint Cuthbert (see the twentieth of March in Dies Gloriae XII) and it must have taken some years to complete. Edfrith welcomed, obviously, the new text of the Gospels, and the new layout of them that came to him from Italy via the twin monastery of Monkwearmouth-Jarrow (Bede’s Monastery – see Father Saint Bede The Venerable under the twenty-fifth of May at Dies Gloriae XXI). He provided the evangelists’ portraits in the Mediterranean style, but he also excelled in the insular majuscule script and the Irish geometric and zoomorphic decorations of extraordinary delicacy and accuracy with which the book is liberally furnished. The fusion of all these elements in one work is a tribute to Edfrith's well-rounded education and the merging of Roman and Irish elements in Northumbria about thirty-five years after the Synod of Whitby.
The creation of the Lindisfarne Gospels alone would have been enough to ensure Edfrith a place in art history; nevertheless, he was also a good bishop and his flock considered him a saint both in life and after his death in AD721. Most of his memorable actions, however, are associated with Saint Cuthbert. The anonymous ‘Life of Cuthbert’ was dedicated to Edfrith and also he commissioned Saint Bede to write a prose ‘Life of Cuthbert’. He restored Cuthbert's oratory on the Inner Farne Island for the use of Saint Felgild, although Saint Ethelwald (see under the twenty-third of March at Dies Gloriae XII) is also credited with some repairs. Edfrith was connected with Cuthbert even in death – he was buried near his tomb. His relics, together with those of Saints Aidan, Eadbert, and Ethelwold, were taken with Cuthbert's in their wanderings through Northumbria from AD875 to AD995 that were undertaken to avoid the Viking depredations, and they reached Durham. When Cuthbert's relics were taken to the new Cathedral there, Edfrith's were translated, too.
For his kindness to his flock and for the labour of love for the Lord that he put into the creation of the Lindisfarne Book of Gospels he is today rightly remembered as a saint.
On this day we must also remember the Blessed Mary Elizabeth Hesselblad, sometimes known as Maria Elizabetta Hesselblad. She was born on this day in AD1870 at Faglavik in Alvsborg province in Sweden, and she was the fifth of thirteen children born to Augusto Roberto Hesselblad and Cajsa Pettesdotter Dag. She was raised a Christian in the Reformed Church of Sweden.
Due to economic hard times, the family moved regularly and Mary Elizabeth thought nothing to emigrating to New York at the age of eighteen to seek work to support her family back in Sweden. She Studied nursing at Manhattan’s Roosevelt Hospital where she worked as a nurse from AD1888, and also she did home care for the sick and aged. Her work took her into the large Roman Catholic population of New York and her interest in the Catholicism grew. She came to see it as the place closest to Christ and she converted to Catholicism and then received conditional baptism on the fifteenth of August in AD1902 (the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) by the Jesuit priest Giovani Hagen at Washington.
She undertook a pilgrimage to Rome in Italy in late AD1902, and she was Confirmed there. She returned briefly to New York, but then sailed back to Rome to start a religious life. She settled at what was then Carmelite House of Saint Bridget of Sweden, on the Piazza Farnese at Rome, on the twenty-fifth of March in AD1904. In AD1906 she got permission from Pope Pius X to take the habit of the Brigittines (Order of the Most Holy Saviour of Saint Bridget of Sweden).

Although the Order was much decayed she worked hard to restore and reform it everywhere, but especially in Sweden and Italy, and most especially at Rome. She returned to her homeland in AD1923, ministered to the poor, and worked to revitalise the Brigittine movement and Order there. She received control of Rome‘s Brigittine House and church on the Piazza Farnese in AD1931, and she established Brigittine foundations in India in AD1937. She died a natural death on the twenty-fourth of April in AD1957 at Rome, and she was beatified by Pope John Paul II on the ninth of March in AD2000.

However, that bare-bones life story doesn’t mention much about her character, nor why I think that we should all remember her today. Her whole life was marked by a continuous charity that she refused to compromise. During the Second World War she gave refuge to many Jews who were persecuted, and she turned her House into a place where she and her fellow Brigittines could distribute food and clothing to those who were in need. In a letter to her sister Eva, in neutral Sweden, she wrote: “… we live down here in very difficult conditions, but the Providence of God helps us in many wonderful ways. We still have a house full of refugees...”, by which she meant Jews that she was hiding from the Nazis, as well as others who had nothing and had turned to her for help. In AD2004 she was recognized by Yad Vashem as one of the Righteous Among the Nations for this work – File No. 10333.
One of Yad Vashem's tasks is to honour non-Jews who risked their lives, liberty or positions to save Jews during the Holocaust. To this end a special independent Commission, headed by a retired Supreme Court Justice, was established. The commission members, including historians, public figures, lawyers and Holocaust survivors, examine and evaluate each case according to a well-defined set of criteria and regulations. The Righteous receive a certificate of honour and a medal and their names are commemorated in the Garden of the Righteous Among the Nations on the Mount of Remembrance, Yad Vashem. This is an ongoing project that will continue for as long as there are valid requests that can be substantiated by testimonies or documentation. As of the first of January of this year (the latest date for which I have a figure), more than 24,811 individuals have been recognised as Righteous Among the Nations.

For her courage in hiding so many of the Elder Faith from the ravening Nazi minions, and for her never ending charity, Mary Elizabeth Hesselblad is today rightly remembered as both Blessed and one of the Righteous Among the Nations. Pray for her and for all those commemorated on and by Yad Vashem.
That brings us to the fifth of June and on this day we must memorialise the Blessed Ferdinand of Portugal, often known as Saint Prince or Ferdinand the Holy or The Constant prince, who was born in AD1402 at Santarem in Portugal. He was the sixth son of King John I of Portugal and Philippa of Lancaster (John of Gaunt’s daughter by his first wife) and he grew up in the royal court, but spent most of his free time in prayer and in helping the poor. He was one of what is now called the Illustrious Generation.
As a pious royal layman, he was offered a titular cardinalate by Pope Eugene IV, but he declined. In AD1437, with his brother Henry, he commanded a disastrous expedition to Morocco against the disgusting Mohammedans who were, and are, in illegal possession of that land. The Portuguese were defeated at Tangiers and Ferdinand offered himself as a hostage for the cession of Ceuta to the untrustworthy Mohammedans, which concession those vile minions of the devil had extracted from the Portugese after the defeat at Tangiers.
To start with he was treated just as a royal hostage in that day and age should have been treated, but as time went by and the Mohammedans grew impatient to possess Cueta and exact their revenge for imagined slights on the Christian population of that city (in the usual crazy Mohammedan way), it became apparent that Henry was having difficulty in fulfilling the treaty obligation to hand Cueta over. Although it broke all the accepted rules of conduct at that time Ferdinand was thrown into a dungeon at Fez (correctly called Lasserak in civilised European tongues – Lazeraque in Portuguese) in Morocco where he survived five years of terrible abuse and wickedly painful torture that his vile Mohammedan captors indulged in just to slake their lust for cruelty – a lust that still drives those appallingly wicked creatures to this day.
Naturally, the whole story is very much more complicated than that simple précis, but one thing is certain, Ferdinand and his fellow hostages were treated very badly indeed, and in a manner that broke all the rules of civilised conduct – not that Mohammedans have ever been able to understand such rules, for the devilish belief system that they indulge in precludes them ever being able to conduct themselves in a fitting and humane way.
Anyway, Ferdinand died from his maltreatment in prison at Lasserak (Fez) on this day in AD1443. After his death, the Mohammedans had Ferdinand's corpse embalmed with salt, myrtle and bay leaves. Ferdinand's heart, organs and intestines were taken out in the process (and promptly acquired by his fellow prisoners, who hid them in clay pots buried underground in a corner of their dungeon). That was all well and good until the Mohammedan swines hung Ferdinand's naked and disemboweled corpse upside down from the battlements of the walls of Lasserak for public display – to this very day Mohammedans have absolutely no sense of what is fitting or correct behaviour. After four days, his body was placed in a sealed wooden coffin and once again hung from the same battlements "for a long time" according to sources.

Ferdinand's entrails in the clay pots were recovered to Lisbon in AD1451 and his body in AD1473 and both are buried in his tomb at the House of Aviz necropolis in Batalha Monastery. Ferdinand’s cultus’ was always popular in Portugal despite periods of disapproval by the church. In literature, as well, his memory flourished and his story remained popular. The Portuguese poet Luís de Camões made a brief mention of Ferdinand in his epic AD1572 poem ‘Os Lusíadas’ (Canto IV, stanzas 52–53), asserting Ferdinand had given himself to martyrdom voluntarily for patriotic reasons, "a sacrifice to love of country made, that not for him strong Ceuta be o'erthrown, the public weal preferring to his own”.

Perhaps surprisingly, the story of Ferdinand got another gust of wind in its sails after the AD1580 Iberian Union with Spain. The Spanish playwright Francisco Agustín Tárrega composed a drama ‘La Fortuna Adversa del Infante D. Fernando de Portugal’ between AD1595 and AD1598 (sometimes wrongly attributed to Lope de Vega), which was probably the basis for the more famous AD1629 Baroque play 'El príncipe constante’ by Calderón. Fortunato de São Boaventura, the exiled Archbishop of Evora, published a more modern version of Ferdinand's story in AD1836.
In English, the story of Ferdinand the Holy Prince was told in an AD1842 poem 'The Steadfast Prince' by Richard Chenevix Trench. The story was also turned into a nineteenth Christian century historical fiction novel, 'The Constant Prince', by Christabel Rose Coleridge (grand-daughter of the famous poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge).
Ferdinand was beatified in AD1470 by Pope Paul II and he is still venerated in Portugal to this day. The Ferdinand story received another lift in the twentieth Christian century, particularly encouraged by the Portuguese Estado Novo (the Second Republic – the corporatist authoritarian regime installed in Portugal in AD1933), which was keen on cultivating icons of nationalism and overseas glory. Ferdinand the Holy was given a position of prominence on the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, a monument erected in AD1960 to celebrate the Age of Discovery and, more generally, the Portuguese Empire. The Portuguese still love his memory and we must consider him to be rightfully Blessed.
On this day we must also remember Saint Sanctius of Córdoba, sometimes called Sancho, or Sancius. We don’t know very much about his early life other that that he was born at Albi in France sometime in the first thirty years of the ninth Christian century. As a youth he was captured, sometime between AD823 to AD842, by the invading Mohammedan robbers who had penetrated into southwest France. They took him back as a prisoner and slave to the Mohammedan illegally occupied town of Córdoba in Spain, where he was educated and given military training.
In AD851 he was compulsorily enrolled in the Mohammedan leader’s guards and it was demanded of him that he abandon the one true Christian Faith and embrace the devil-worshipping ways of the Mohammedans. Naturally, he refused and he was immediately sentenced to death. Cruelly, the Mohammedans, in their usual foul way, stretched him out on the ground and slowly impaled him on a burning stake. His body was burned and thrown into the Guadalquivir – I don’t know if any part of his body was recovered and given a decent Christian burial, but many such bodies were. Today, Sanctius is rightly remembered as a martyr and a saint.
Well, that brings us to the sixth of June and to a saint that I am in two minds about – Saint Agobard of Lyon. He was born sometime around AD769 either on the Mohammedan illegally occupied Iberian Peninsula (modern Spain) or in Septimania (modern coastal southeast France that, at the time, was also illegally occupied by the thieving Mohammedans). To escape from the vile Mohammedan influence he moved into the unoccupied part of France to Narbonne in AD781 where it is thought that he came under the influence of Benedict Aniane, a noted and severely ascetic reforming monk, who was also a refugee from the revolting Mohammedans and their brutal usurpation of Septimania. Subsequently, sometime between AD795 to AD798, Agobard moved to Lyon, and he was ordained as a priest there by Leidrad, the Archbishop of Lyon, probably in AD804. He succeeded Leidrad as Archbishop in AD813, but his succession was surrounded by controversy and a Synod was summoned to discuss it. In AD816 he participated in the coronation by Pope Stephen V of the Emperor Louis, known as Louis the Pious.
Now, the problem that most people have with Agobard is that he more or less invented, and legitimated, anti-Semitism in the church and in secular life – a position on Judaism that was to lead directly to the blood-libel against the Jews that began in England about four hundred years later – see Dies Gloriae XVI. Agobard is notorious, today, for his vocal and vicious attacks on the local Jewish population. Jewish communities in the Frankish realm (today's France) were granted considerable freedoms under Emperor Louis the Pious, including a prohibition on Christians proselytising them. Louis had appointed a magister Iudaeorum to ensure Jewish legal protection, and did not force Jews to baptise for their slaves – but they could if they so wished (slavery was still legal throughout Europe at this time).
Agobard found this last provision particularly galling, and wrote his first anti-Jewish tract on the matter: ‘De Baptismo Judaicorum Mancipiorum’ (circa AD823). For the rest of the decade Agobard campaigned against what he saw as the dangerous growth in the power and influence of the Jews in the kingdom and asserted that such growth (if it even existed, which is doubtful) was contrary to canon, and natural, law.
It was during this time that he wrote such works as ‘Contra Praeceptum Impium’ (c. AD826), ‘De Insolentia Judeorum’ (c. AD827), ‘De Judaicis Superstitionibus’ (c. AD827) and ‘De Cavendo Convictu et Societate Judaica’ (c. AD827). Agobard’s rhetoric, which included describing Jews as “filii diaboli” – children of the devil – was indicative of the developing anti-Jewish strain of medieval Christian thought that he helped to foster.
Agobard’s anti-Semitism was paradoxically both stereotypical and knowledgeable at one and the same time, for he showed a great knowledge of contemporary Judaism, while maintaining and perpetuating stereotypes. In other words, he bore all the hallmarks of a thorough going bigot who could never be persuaded from a position that he had once adopted by any evidence at all, no matter how strong such evidence might have been.
It is not surprising that Agobard was also an Iconoclast, and that he often took positions diametrically opposed to those of the Emperor Louis. He opposed, also, reform of the Liturgy and just about any other suggestion that came his way. He just comes across to me as being plain awkward and argumentative – the sort of person who can’t help himself but to say the opposite to whatever has just been said by someone else, regardless of whether or not taking such a contrary position is sensible or not. In one of his tracts, ‘Liber Apologeticus’, he even defended the rebellious sons of the Emperor and chided Louis for his behaviour – not exactly the work of a wise and temperate man. Small wonder, then, that he was sent into exile in AD833 by the Council of Thionville and that the Archbishopric was administered by his assistant bishop (chorbishop), Amalarius of Metz (c. AD775 – c. AD850), who was to succeed him after his death.
Agobard was allowed to return to the archdiocese, but there is no record of him having been allowed to exercise episcopal authority, in AD839, but he died, at Saintes in southwest France, in AD840. I have great difficulty seeing this man as a saint, despite his own assertion, and belief, that everything he said and did was geared towards the preservation of the Faith and the Church. The people of Lyon still venerate him as a saint and I daresay that he had qualities that were better exhibited in his pastoral role than in his political one. However, I still cannot bring myself to say that he is rightly remembered as a saint.
Incidentally, the UFO community have taken an episode narrated by Agobard in ‘De Grandine and Tonitruis’ ('From hail and thunder') in entirely the wrong way, and W. Raymond Drake has used Agobard’s denouncing of the medieval superstitious belief in ships sailing in the clouds in that narrative to inform his chapter on spacemen of the Middle Ages in his book 'Gods or Spacemen' (1964, ISBN 0-451-07192-1). The strange medieval belief in sailing ships that could fly is simply based in the apparent ‘magic’ of ships that, to simple folk, disappeared off the edge of the world and reappeared in the same port, or even in a different port, many months, or years, later, carrying goods from heaven only knows where. Most people didn’t travel in that day and age and those who did, like sailors, were often viewed with grave suspicion.

That brings us to Saint Philip the Deacon, sometimes called Philip of Hierapolis, or Philip the Evangelist. It’s his feast day today (the sixth of June) as well, and I feel we should memorialise him, but we must be careful not to confuse him with the Apostle Philip.
We don’t know very much about Saint Philip the Deacon, but he was probably an Hellenized Jew. He is first mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles at 6:5 as one of "the seven" who were chosen to attend to certain temporal affairs of the church in Jerusalem.
After the martyrdom of Saint Stephen he went to "the city of Samaria", where he preached with much success, Simon Magus being one of his converts. He afterwards instructed and baptised an Ethiopian eunuch on the road between Jerusalem and Gaza, traditionally marking the start of the Ethiopian Church (Acts 8); next he was "caught away" by the Spirit and "found at Azotus" (Ashdod), then "passing through he preached in all the cities till he came to Caesarea" (Acts 8).
Here some years afterwards, according to Acts 21:8-9, where he is described as "the evangelist" (a term found again in the New Testament only in Ephesians 4:11 and in 2 Timothy 4:5), he entertained Paul and his companion on their way to Jerusalem for the last time; at that time "he had four daughters which did prophesy".
Philip is counted among the Seventy Apostles, Luke 10:1-24, and tradition describes him as settling at Tralles in Anatolia (modern Mohammedan illegally occupied Aydin), where he became the bishop of the church there, although he is recorded as having died at Caesarea in c. AD58. Today, Philip is rightly revered as a saint.
On the seventh of June I want to remember Saint Aventinus of Larboust. He was born sometime in the mid to late eighth Christian century at Bagnères in the Pyrenees in southern France, beyond that not much else is known about his life for certain. We do know that he became a hermit and lived in Larboust Valley in the Pyrenees. He prayed a great deal but, besides praying, he spent some time walking around and preaching the gospel to the inhabitants of Gascony, which was still largely pagan at that time.
However, in the early part of the ninth Christian century the area around Larboust was attacked by the Mohammedans and they found Aventinus in his hermitage and tried to force him to convert to their vile form of devil worship. He wouldn’t convert so they tortured him for fun, Mohammedans take great delight in inflicting pain on normal people, especially Christians, then, in AD813, they beheaded him and tried to hide his body. However his remains were recovered and in the twelfth Christian century they were placed in a church that was built especially to house them. The village where the church stands soon came to be called Saint-Aventin and it is today in the Haute-Garonne department in southern France.

There is some debate over this poor saint’s dates. Some sources place his birth as early as AD700 and his death in AD732 whilst others agree with the dates that I have used. Even his feast day, which I have given as this day, is sometimes given as the thirteenth of June. He is invoked by women in labour, as legend has it that his mother had a very difficult birth with him, and he is today, for his steadfastness in the Faith in the face of the foul Mohammedans, rightly venerated as a saint.

Saint Habentius of Cordoba, who was a monk at the monastery of Saint Christopher in Mohammedan illegally occupied Cordoba in Spain. He was martyred by being beheaded in the persecutions of Abderrahman for denouncing the demon Mohammed in AD851.
Saint Jeremiah of Cordoba, who, as a very old man, founded the monastery of Tábanos in Mohammedan illegally occupied Cordoba in Spain. he was martyred in AD851 by being whipped to death in the persecutions of Abderrahman for denouncing the demon Mohammed.
Saint Wistremundus of Cordoba, who was a monk at the monastery of Saint Zoilus in Mohammedan illegally occupied Cordoba in Spain. He was martyred in AD851 by being beheaded in the persecutions of Abderrahman for denouncing the demon Mohammed.
Saint Wallabonsus of Cordoba, who was a Deacon in Mohammedan illegally occupied Cordoba in Spain. He was martyred in AD851 by being beheaded in the persecutions of Abderrahman for denouncing the demon Mohammed.
Saint Sabinian of Cordoba, who was a monk at the monastery of Saint Zoilus in Mohammedan illegally occupied Cordoba in Spain. He was martyred in AD851 by being beheaded in the persecutions of Abderrahman for denouncing the demon Mohammed.
Saint Peter of Cordoba, who was a priest in Mohammedan illegally occupied Cordoba in Spain. He was martyred by being beheaded in the persecutions of Abderrahman for denouncing the demon Mohammed.
Please pray for the repose of the souls of these incredibly brave people who did not deny the Lord even in the face of certain death at the hands of the demon polluted Mohammedans.
My final saint for this week, and consequently the saint for the eighth of June, is Saint Pacificus of Cerano, who is also known as Pacifico Ramati, or Pacificus of Ceredano, or Pacificus Ramota. He was born c. AD1424 at Cerano in Novara in Italy and he was orphaned at a very young age. He was educated at the Benedictine monastery in Novara, and he joined the Friars Minor – the Franciscans – in AD1445. He received a doctorate from the Sorbonne University at Paris in France, and he was considered to be one of the most learned men of his day.
He was ordained in AD1452 and he preached the Faith throughout Italy from AD1452 through AD1471. He was so good at spreading the Word that he was sent by Pope Sixtus IV to Sardinia as an evangelist and a reformer. On his return he founded a monastery at Vigevano in Lombardy in Italy and he used it as a base for his teaching and preaching. In AD1480 he was sent to Sardinia to preach the Crusade to Turkey.
The fall of Constantinople to the debauched Mohammedan horde in AD1453 had seriously worried the Church as well as many of the European Powers. The Franciscans and many other mendicant orders were amongst themost active agents of the Church in preaching the Crusade against the Turks and in raising funds for such a crusade. For example, in May of AD1464 the officials of the town of Amandola had all the bells rung each morning to summon the townsfolk to hear Brother Pietro da Mogliano, a very saintly Franciscan, preach the crusade.
The situation at the time seemed dire as in eastern Europe country after country fell to the ravening demonic Mohammedan horde. However, the barbaric mass of the devil-worshipping super-gang met its first defeat and the tide of its advance was slowed markedly and then gradually reversed over many years. That first victory for the Christian forces of civilisation and humanity was inflicted upon the devil worshippers by the great general Janos Hunyadi with his crusading army of Hungarians and Germans that had been roused to a furious pitch of valour and effort by the exhortations of the Franciscan friar Giovanni da Capistrano. The pestilential Mohammedan Turks were defeated by this army on the twenty-second of July in AD1456 outside the key Danubian fortress city of Belgrade.

bearing his casket starts from here and wends its way through the town.
Pacificus lent his preaching skills to advocating for a proper crusade against the wicked and illegal occupiers of the holy city of Constantinople and it remained a theme in his preaching for the rest of his life. He also wrote a rule of life known as the Summa Pacifica and he was renowned for his gentleness and his peaceful ways, as well as for his talent in ending disputes between people peacefully and permanently. He died in the Faith, still preaching and evangelising, at Sassari on Sardinia in AD1482. His remains are entombed at Cerano, in the parish church, of which town he is also the Patron Saint. Today, for his preaching against the evil Mohammedans and for his simple goodness, he is rightly remembered as a saint.

Did Tolerance of Antisemitism Contribute to Florida Atlantic University Presidentâ€™s Resignation?

On May 15, 2013, Florida Atlantic University President, Dr. Mary Jane Saunders, resigned after less than three years as head of the Boca Raton-based university.. As noted by WPTV, Channel 5 News several controversies figured in her decision to resign:
Over the past twelve months she has witnessed protests over the proposed naming of a football stadium for a prison company, anger over a professor's lesson that involved stepping on the name Jesus, accusations that anti-Semitism is harbored by administrators and a backlash over a professor who raised questions about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings and the Boston Marathon bombings.
In a late March 2013 Iconoclast post we addressed two of those controversies:
FAU has two problems in the combined Passover Easter Holy Week: "Stomp Jesus" and a modern blood libel perpetrated by Muslim Student extremists in blatant anti-Semitic and anti-Israel incidents. The "Stomp Jesus" incident furor led to a request for an investigation by Florida Governor Rick Scott in a letter to the Florida State University System Chancellor, while the other matter deserves equal and immediate attention.
The "Stomp Jesus" incident at FAU is not the only concerning matter. There is evidence of antisemitism and even charges of modern blood libel arising from incidents perpetrated by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) plastering eviction notices on dorm rooms of Jewish Students in 2012. Noor Fawzy was the leader of SJP that perpetrated these incidents on campus during Apartheid Awareness Week.
The ultimate outrage at FAU was the prestigious award presented to SJP leader and Political Science Major Noor Fawzy last month. Fawzy received “FAU’s 2013 Stan and Renee Wimberley Scholar award in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, along with evidence of leadership, campus involvement and community service.”
Sources in South Florida informed us that several of FAU’s trustees had expressed concerns about SJP and apparently were rebuffed by former President Saunders telling them that Fawzy was only expressing “strong opposing views on Israel”. It is also alleged that Charles Brown, student activities senior vice president at FAU, may have had a hand in approving Ms. Fawzy nomination for the Wimberley Scholar award. Brown was taken to task for his failure to deal properly with the aggrieved complaints of an FAU student who witnessed the “stomp Jesus” classroom episode by Dr. Deandre Poole. Brown remains in his post for the moment. The allegations about antisemitism at FAU may have found support in an October 2010 US Department of Education Office of Civil Rights “Dear Colleague” letter which may eventually provide grounds for investigation of anitisemitism and ethnicity under the provisions of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 if things co tinue on thier present trajectory.

Not to be outdone, FAU released a rebuttal video on You Tube, entitled “Diversity”, watch here. Included in the FAU video are endorsements from Jewish students and Jewish faculty members, extolling the politically correct virtues of this South Florida university campus that tolerates the intolerance of antisemitism. It has yet to be verified whether these were in fact paid actors Watch them both and ponder what Jewish community leaders and Jewish trustees have to do next to finally purge antisemitism from FAU.
