Labrador assistance dog threatened.
A St. Cloud State University student in a teacher-training program at Technical High School left the school in late April because he says he feared for the safety of his service dog.
The school district calls it a misunderstanding, and officials there say they hoped Tyler Hurd, a 23-year-old junior from Mahtomedi who aspires to teach special education, would continue his training in the district.

Hurd said a student threatened to kill his service dog named Emmitt. The black lab is trained to protect Hurd when he has seizures.
The seizures, which can occur weekly, are from a childhood injury.
The dog has a pouch on his side that assists those who stop to help Hurd.
Hurd said he was unable to finish his 50 hours of field training at Tech. The university waived the remaining 10 hours, he said. He plans to do his student teaching outside a high school setting.
“We came up with a solution because I felt threatened by it," Hurd said.
The school district and university are working to make sure a similar situation doesn't happen.
The threat came from a Somali student who is Muslim, according to Hurd, St. Cloud State and school district officials.
The Muslim faith, which is the dominant faith of Somali immigrants, forbids the touching of dogs.
Hurd trained at Talahi Community School and Tech. He said his experience at Talahi was good. The Somali students there warmed to the dog and eventually petted him using paper to keep their hands off his fur, Hurd said.
Things didn't go as well at Tech, Hurd said. Students there taunted his dog, and he finally felt he had to leave after he was told a student made a threat.

The Muslim faith, which is the dominant faith of Somali immigrants, forbids the touching of dogs.

As to the absolute accuracy of that I cannot say, but if it is accurate then surely that one fact, alone, tells us all, exactly, the primitive and superstitious state that Islam today exists in - that they believe that one part of God's creation may not touch with the bare flesh some other part of God's creation. That is, to my mind, nothing more than the operation of a diseased conciousness - a conciousness which sets itself apart from some other creatures and allows of the most important distinction in Islam today - the division of the world into the Islamic part and the part that is war.

In as much as these idiot and undereducated Somalis abhor canines then they also abhor all non-muslims, for the two hatreds are born from the same sense of superiority, and from the same lack of love and appreciation of love - the one thing that our canine companions give to us most freely - which we find again and again in Islamic texts. Never mind love and compassion and the reasoning application of either, just stick to the law. Oh my God, what cruelties are perpetrated in the name of the law!

Then, to cap it all, Kate Steffens, Dean of the College of Education at St. Cloud State, said, and I quote from the article, “I think this is part of the growth process when we become more diverse." So, tell me Ms. Steffens, exactly how does the meaningless phrase which you so glibly trotted out, have any relevance whatsoever, any logical connexion with, any purpose other than pouring soothing oil-based balm upon troubled waters with, the issue at hand?

That you cannot answer for to do so would be to deny your liberal stance, wouldn't it? So, once again the primitive and reactionary forces of Islam have triumphed. They have forced a student out of a school simply because he had need of a trained dog - a position which we Western civilised people accept, but the the primitive and stupid followers of Islam cannot accept.

You, Ms. Steffens, called it 'a growth process' when, in reality, it is a deadly process. You, Ms. Steffens, called it 'becoming more diverse' when, in reality, it means becoming far less diverse - far, far less diverse - by giving into a prejudice against canines, despite canines serving humans well, on the mere say so of some mythical and idiotic figure deemed to be  a prophet by some superstitious idiots of one particular racial extraction.

Well, Ms. Steffens, that is not diversity - that is capitulation, cowardice and stupidity. That is, whether you have the wit to acknowledge it or not, ascribing to some idiotic belief or other a value equivalent to the value which you should place upon our own rationalist beliefs, but do not, and, thereby, allowing superstition to triumph.

Simply because Islamic beliefs are beliefs and that Islamics assert that these beliefs are part of a religion does not free you, Ms Steffens, from the obligation to examine them and to pronounce upon them in a critical way when they are so obviously at odds with a rational, enlightenment, point of view. You have failed in your duty as a teacher of our young and you should, if you have any morality at all, admit your mistake and resign forthwith, for your quoted statement is so untenable on so many levels that it proves your paucity of intellect and your compleat lack of fitness to have any cure whatsoever in the education of our young.
