Britain has a religious think tank named
Theos, and Michael Burleigh has interesting things to say about it
here.
Burleigh touches on a point I've been thinking about: that there is currently a tension in Western societies between:
—-The repulsive force of extremist Islam, giving all of religion a bad name, and pushing in Western faces the fact that sincerely devout people can behave in a way that seems totally nuts.
and
—-The attractive force of our traditional Christianity and Judaism as a rallying point for our civilization against the cultural threat of Islam (which, however, is much more troublesome in Britain and Europe than here—see Mark Steyn's new book).
