Armed police swoop on Hagley Road, Edgbaston, in operation linked to Westminster terror attacks

Armed police closed off Hagley Road in Edgbastopn last night in an operation linked to the Westminster terror attacks .

Unconfirmed reports claim a house was raided on an investigation which may be connected to the hire of a car used in the attacks, which left five dead and 40 hurt.

The operation began at around 11pm and ended at around 2am, when Hagley Road was reopened, although there is some police presence at the scene this morning.

Armed police officers arrested several people… Referring to the attacker, a witness who works nearby said: “The man from London lived here.” He added: “They came and arrested three men.”

West Midlands Police have referred all police inquires to Metropolitan Police. It was making no comment this morning.

According to the London Evening Standard arrests now total 7, from raids also in London and elsewhere.

Speaking outside New Scotland Yard on Thursday morning, Mr Rowley, the Met’s senior anti-terror officer, said he had no “specific information” about further threats to the public.

“We believe this attacker acted alone and was inspired by international terrorism,” he said
