In the Bosom

by Michael Shindler (September 2022)

Milky Way
, Peter Doig, 1989-90

In the bosom of a cave’s darkness
There sat a discerning sage
Who had been there for many years
Praying and sighing
Blindly.

But one day a wandering star
Cast its light down into the darkness
Like a spotlight on a stage
And there was a face full of tears
Graying and dying
Blindly.
