It's an annual event, and annual, too, is the counting-up of the vehicles torched by young Muslim Arabs who don't much care for Christmas, or the general atmosphere around it, and choose on Saint-Sylvestre to observe the holiday season in their own special way.
I observe, also, that 308 persons were arrested. And this brings me to my next thought. The cops, and non-Muslim French citizens, *know* that the local Muslim "youths" will set fire to cars. Why not set traps? Prepare ambushes, lots of them. Put out the bait. They must know, by now, that there are streets, or suburbs, where to park a car on New Year's Eve is to have that car set alight. Sooo..park cars...perhaps with an Israeli flag sticker, or a rosary or crucifix or St Christopher dingle-dangle visible...but let those cars be booby-trapped in some way, so as to give a most unpleasant surprise to those nasty Muslims who malevolently seek to destroy property in the course of conducting the jihad of the needle (many small ongoing attacks). Set traps. Or let the police be "staked out" in selected locations, those known to be the worst, with plenty of backup to crush potential riots, and tempting 'bait' (a second-hand Mercedes, perhaps) laid out. The enemy takes the bait; the enemy is seized and whisked away, to be subjected to the full force of the law (as was done, in NYC, to farejumpers, when the subways were cleaned up). Full body search. All identifying particulars - including dna sample - run through the "unsolved crimes" database. Immigration and citizenship check. Welfare fraud check. Strip search for illegal weapons. Swabbed - and sniffed, by police dogs - for traces of explosives. And so on. And if the b*st*rds start or try to start a riot, when the traps are sprung, the ambushes happen, and the mass arrests are underway...call in the army and flatten them.
It is interesting that none of the French media reports contain any reference to who is responsible for the car burning. Is it the case that everyone knows but no one will say what is going on? Or is there a real chance that people really don't know because the media decline to tell them? Strangely, few of those commenting on the announced reduction in the numbers of cars destroyed to only 940 seem that impressed.
