A car that ploughed into soldiers in the town of Levallois-Perret (see below) in the northwestern suburbs of Paris on Wednesday morning has injured six people, two seriously, French press reports are saying.

Police are currently looking for the vehicle which took off after the incident at about 8am.

The mayor of Levallois-Perret, Patrick Balkany has described the incident as “without doubt a deliberate act” while police have described it is an “apparently deliberate act”. Speaking to broadcaster BFM TV, Balkany said that what he called a “disgusting” act of aggression was “without any doubt” premeditated. It all happened very quickly. The vehicle did not stop. It hurtled at them… it accelerated rapidly,”

A police spokesman said the vehicle – which is also being hunted – appeared to clearly target the troops, but the motive for the attack remained unclear.

The car used to slam into the soldiers was a BMW, said French TV news channel BFM, adding that the injured soldiers have been transported to Percy military hospital in Clamart near Paris.
