Child sex abuse trial: Five in court over 23 offences

From the Rotherham Advertiser. The trial of this child raping band of brothers started this morning.

THREE brothers and two other men have gone on trial for historic child sexual exploitation (CSE) offences. The five men have been charged with a total of 23 CSE offences, including one joint charge of false imprisonment, which allegedly took place in Rotherham between 1999 and 2001.

The men deny all the offences. The defendants and charges are as follows:

Basharat Dad (32), of Eldon Road, Eastwood, six counts of rape, two counts of sexual intercourse with a girl aged under 13, five counts of indecent assault and false imprisonment.

Nassar Dad (36), of Cranworth Road, Eastwood, two counts of rape, two counts of sexual intercourse with a girl aged under 13, two counts of inciting indecency with a child and false imprisonment.

Tayab Dad (34), of St Lawrence Road, Tinsley, rape.

Matloob Hussain (41), of Doncaster Road, Thrybergh, charged with sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13.

Mohammed Sadiq (40), of Oxley Grove, Broom, charged with sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13.

Amjad Ali, 38, has already admitted having unlawful sex with the 12-year-old girl.

The offences relate to two girls who were aged 12 to 14 years-old. Miss Sophie Drake, prosecuting, opened the case today (Wednesday) at Sheffield Crown Court and said the two girls were not known to each other. . . The connection between the two girls, Miss Drake said, was Basharat Dad who raped the complainants on separate occasions.

“The girls also had in common that they were young teenagers growing up in Rotherham and were sexually exploited by a number of men, they were vulnerable young girls given alcohol and cannabis and told to perform sexual acts,” said Miss Drake.

The Daily Mail has more details.

Ms Drake said the 12-year-old, who is now 28, began hanging around with older girls and playing truant from school.

‘By the age of 12, she was having sexual intercourse with a number of males,’ she told the court. ‘Some were 15 or 16, some were much older.’ The court heard how the girl fell pregnant when she was 12 but did not know who the father was. When police became involved, the girl told the the names of five men with whom she had sex including Basharat and two of the other defendants.

She then met Matloob Hussain – a 25-year-old takeaway delivery driver – who allegedly had sex with her at his home. She then had sexual intercourse with Mohammed Sadiq, then 24, when his parents were away. Police arrested Basharat, Matloob and Sadiq in 2001 who all denied having sex with the girl. They were not charged but two other teenagers were cautioned.

But the alleged offences came to light again when South Yorkshire Police began investigating the sexual exploitation of young girls in Rotherham in 2014.

Meanwhile, the court heard how the 13-year-old victim had started having sex with Asian men from a young age. She met the Dad brothers at their shop and would meet Basharat two or three times a week. They would smoke cannabis and have sex, the court heard.

Miss Drake said: ‘The brothers were aware she was under 16 and knew she was at school. They supplied her with alcohol and cannabis so that they could do what they wanted to.’ The teenager told police Basharat would ‘wear her down’ by giving her drugs. ‘She did not have the freedom to choose,’

Tayab Dad also forced himself upon the girl in the fireworks shop, it is alleged. The girl told the police: ‘He would not stop until he got summat.’

The trial is due to last six weeks.
