Authors and articles were previously managed as the same content type, so there are currently many "author landing pages" that were imported into the Articles post type. Blog posts and articles no longer need to be added manually to an author's page. HOWEVER, if there was custom content on the old author page (such as essays that aren't on the site, misc. bio information, etc.), that will need to be added to the author's new entry under the Author post type.
To work through this list, click on a name. If their content area is empty, or only has blog posts and articles listed, it's safe to delete it. This will be the case for nearly all authors. When refreshed the page will only display links that still need to be checked & deleted. If there happens to be extra biographical info in the content area when you click through, find that author's name in the Authors section of the admin and copy-paste the appropriate content (ignoring the blog and article content) into it. Then come back and delete the post.
