Garett Jones’ Hive Mind Wimp Out

Having seen an interesting review of Hive Mind by Garett Jones, I purchased a copy on Kindle and read it. Jones completely dodges the implications of his own research at the end. After talking about IQ and the many benefits of living in a country with a relatively high average IQ level – evidence that is overwhelming, he suddenly switches criteria at the end. IQ levels become “skill levels” and importing people from “low skill” countries (which are also low IQ countries), does not effect the host country up to a certain level. The first people hurt are the earlier low skill immigrants and high school students who can’t find summer jobs. We passed that bar a long time ago, but that’s where he leaves the conversation!

The obvious implication that importing lots of lots of people with lower than average IQs will lower the nation’s average IQ and thus increase problems like corruption and eventually lower overall living standards is completely avoided.

Very disappointing..
