Richard Wright QC, prosecuting, said at the opening of their trial that some of their victims were “plied with drink and drugs to the point of being utterly unable to resist the sexual advances that were made against them”.
Judge Simon Philips QC, sentencing, said the girls were “targeted because of their extreme vulnerability”.He told the court the victims were subjected to “misery, suffering and despair”.
Leeds Crown Court heard how one of the victim’s mums was so failed by social services that she resorted to writing to the then-Prime Minister.
Mohammed Akram, who was convicted of the largest number of offences in the trial, was jailed for 17 years.
Niaz Ahmed, who is currently under investigation for an alleged gang rape in 2003, was jailed for five years.
Mohammed Imran Ibrar was jailed for three years.
Asif Bashir was jailed for 11 years.
