Husband, wife and their three teenage daughters held in east London anti-terror swoop

Updated. From the London Evening Standard I don’t yet know which part of East London, but I have a suspicion.

Five members of the same family were arrested by counter terrorism officers in east London today. Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command held a husband and wife and their three teenage daughters, aged 16, 17 and 19, at their home address in an early morning operation.

All five were arrested on suspicion of possessing information “likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.”

The man was also arrested on suspicion of possessing false identity documents.

Police were forced to act amid fears that some or all members of the family were planning to flee to Syria to join the terror group Islamic State.

The 16-year-old girl arrested today was also held by counter terror officers in July. At the time she was described as the youngest ever person to be held over a terror offence. The girl is since believed to have turned 16.

More if any news is published. As I expected according to Sky TV news the family are indeed from Bethnal Green. I suspect the girls will prove to be pupils/former pupils of Bethnal Green Academy. The police are quick to reassure the public that whatever terror offences they are involved with are related to Syria and not the plot to attack the Queen at the VJ Commemorations this weekend.
