Islamism risks turning Britain into Somalia, says author Hirsi Ali

Britain risks being turned into Somalia by Islamists, the author Ayaan Hirsi Ali has claimed.

Hirsi Ali, who was raised a Muslim in the African country but converted to Christianity in 2023, said it was time to fight back against the spread of Islamism in the West.

The campaigner warned that if this was not stopped, Britain could become like Somalia, which is governed under Sharia law, according to the country’s constitution under the Federal Government of Somalia.

Speaking at a conference mapping out how to strengthen the West, she said Islamists, Muslims who believe Islam should govern political, legal and societal issues, were systematically targeting British institutions.

“And the result, to be quite clear, is just going to be where I came from,” she told the third annual gathering of the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (Arc).

“Now it is time to reconstruct all of these institutions back to focusing on the individual. Brick by brick, rebuild. Do not give in to the demands of Islamists. Confront them with the question, ‘why are you here if Sharia law is so fantastic?’ Why are so many people in Muslim countries moving to the ‘infidel West’.”

Hirsi Ali added that no Western leader could “go to any part of the Third World and lecture them about human rights” after the grooming gangs scandal.
