Jakarta terror attacks: ‘At least six dead’ in series of explosions in Indonesian capital – latest

Regular updates from The Telegraph here. The bombs seem to have been suicide bombers and focused on the Westernised area of Jakarta.

Starbucks appears to have been the focus of the attacks in Jakarta which have killed seven people and injured many more. It is among a number of Western brands which feature prominently on Thamrin Street, including Pizza Hut, in the city centre. It also includes a high concentration of office buildings, while the Istana Negara presidential palace is about a mile up the road.

The Islamic State group issued a cryptic warning before multiple blasts hit the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Thursday, killing at least four people, police have told AFP.

National police spokesman Anton Charliyan said it was not clear yet which group had carried out what the Indonesian president has termed “acts of terror”.

But he said that IS issued a cryptic warning before the attacks.

“The warning said there will be a concert in Indonesia and it will be international news,” he told a local radio station.
