This could backfire, bigtime.
Remember the "Rats of Tobruk"
If embraced and ironically redefined by those to which it was, with ill intent, applied, It could end up as a defining term of the 21st century. "Trump's Deplorables" could end up having the same sort of ring to it as "Rats of Tobruk".
"Were you a Deplorable?" children will ask, sixty, seventy years from now. And great-grandpa will proudly reply, YES!
