Mar-a-Lago Raid: DOJ and Dems Risk Civil War to Save Their Jobs

by Roger L. Simon

Barely more than a week ago, on July 31, The Epoch Times published an article of mine—”Would the Indictment of Donald Trump Lead to Civil War?

How fast things move; not even Usain Bolt could keep up.

What’s behind the FBI’s raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home besides a burst of Neo-Stalinism reminiscent of Comrade Beria’s “show me the man and I’ll show you the crime” mixed with an effort to prove once-and-for-all that the United States is becoming a banana republic run by characters out of “Seven Days in May.”

What made 30 (or was it more) FBI agents give a former president the Gestapo treatment in the early hours of the morning, allegedly rummaging in multiple rooms of his house, not looking so much for anything in particular—anything would do—while breaking into his safe in the process?

Call it The Big Panic. Call it something more insidious—the instigation of one-party rule.

The Democrats, the Deep State, the Justice Department (DOJ), the FBI, and all the intelligence agencies, globalists, propagandists of mainstream media, and all adherents of that one-party rule and enemies of republican government, will do anything—anything—to stop Trump from winning the 2024 election.

That includes courting civil war and endangering millions of lives in the process, even though some of these panic-stricken individuals must realize they could ultimately lose that war.

It doesn’t matter to them. They need to stop Trump. They know the current list of candidates on their side has no chance of winning in a country with an economy and global importance that are tanking simultaneously.

Worst of all—they would lose their jobs, many of which are lifetime sinecures.

Trump’s main goal now is to end the Deep State, including such things as simply closing down the Department of Education, which has done nothing positive for education since its inception. He has said as much in recent speeches, often to wild applause.

Everybody goes home. No wonder they hate him.

If Trump were to come into office in 2025, you can imagine the investigations. Just who really was behind the Russia hoax? Was it just Hillary Clinton? Was Barack Obama involved in some way? Joe Biden? What exactly was behind the effort to impeach Trump over his phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, when those testifying against Trump turned out to be deeply involved in all sorts of corruption in that very country?

And then, of course, there’s Hunter Biden and the fact that he hasn’t yet been indicted, years after the production of the laptop and so many of its lurid details revealed that undoubtedly would be or already are of use to our enemies. This would naturally include possible details of unconscionable greed on the part of the current president.

My guess is that a settlement of that case (with all evidence sealed to protect the “Big Guy,” of course) could happen soon, if only to undercut the storm that’s sure to come—or is already here—over the treatment of Donald Trump.

Add this all together, or even part of it, and it’s easy to see why the DOJ did the judge shopping—what else could it be—necessary to find the sufficiently biased “adjudicator”—how hard is that—who would agree there was probable cause to invade Mar-a-Lago.

Next up—the perp walk of Donald Trump in handcuffs.

Political theater at its most extreme, it would be the apotheosis of the United States as a one-party state, because what’s the Deep State if not that?

If they then try Trump in a Washington court similar to the one that exonerated Michael Sussmann for his role in initiating the Russia hoax, the chances of civil war will be approaching 11 out of 10.

As Clay Travis mentioned on Sean Hannity’s show on Aug. 8, we no longer can trust evidence brought forth by the FBI. After the Russia hoax and those still-unexplained participants in the Jan. 6, 2021, demonstrations who seem to have been inciting insurrection but for some reason haven’t been indicted, how can we possibly?

The FBI and the DOJ are no longer believed by half the country. Who are FBI Director Chris Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland that they could be so disconnected from their fellow citizens, so emotionally contorted, that they could do such a thing—that they could put us all in such a position of near-maximum distrust? What possible justification do they really have, other than the preservation of power in its most naked forms?

This is an untenable situation for a democratic republic, not that we are one anymore. To put it bluntly, we are already China—or something very close. Pay attention. Act accordingly.

How bad is it? If you haven’t, read this from the New York Post:

“The Florida federal magistrate judge who signed off on a search warrant authorizing the FBI raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort left the local U.S. Attorney’s office more than a decade ago to rep employees of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein who had received immunity in the long-running sex-trafficking investigation of the financier.

“Sources tell The Post that Judge Bruce Reinhart approved the warrant that enabled federal agents to converge on the palatial South Florida estate on [Aug. 8] in what Trump called an ‘unannounced raid on my home.’

“Reinhart was elevated to magistrate judge in March 2018 after 10 years in private practice. That November, the Miami Herald reported that he had represented several of Epstein’s employees—including, by Reinhart’s own admission to the outlet, Epstein’s pilots; his scheduler, Sarah Kellen; and Nadia Marcinkova, who Epstein once reportedly described as his ‘Yugoslavian sex slave.’”

  1. To look in some corners of the conservative movement this week has been like visiting an alternative universe, one in which a politicized FBI and Justice Department have become hellbent on unfairly persecuting former President Donald Trump after turning a blind eye to Hunter Biden’s laptop and Hillary Clinton’s missing emails.

Federal officers on Monday executed a search warrant on Trump’s Florida home, one that was approved by the Justice Department and a judge based on probable cause that evidence of a crime was parked at Mar-a-Lago. It appears the inquiry is linked to Trump’s handling of classified materials; agents took about a dozen boxes with them from the West Palm Beach members-only club late Monday, according to Trump’s lawyer.

But rather than debate the merits of the case as they are known so far, some Trump allies seized on the highly unusual—but not unheard of—nature of a presidential administration probing the conduct of the previous commander in chief. In quick turn, many decided a galling double standard was at play, given how the FBI investigated—and cleared—Clinton for how she handled her email system as Secretary of State, and how the probe facing Hunter Biden, the President’s son and the potential subject of a tax case, is seemingly progressing at a glacial pace.

Even Trump’s potential challengers for his party’s presidential nomination in 2024 joined the effort to cast him as a victim, his supporters as aggrieved, and the Biden administration of holding one standard to protect its friends and another to dispatch any threats to Joe Biden’s nascent re-election bid. “The raid of MAL is another escalation in the weaponization of federal agencies against the Regime’s political opponents, while people like Hunter Biden get treated with kid gloves,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis tweeted about the visit of feds to Mar-a-Lago. Added former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo: “Look at what the DOJ did last night to President Trump, while it slow-rolls and looks the other way on Hunter Biden.”

The Trump orbit didn’t invent this sort of misdirection but it did hone it in significant ways. The power of whataboutism was on full display during the Cold War, as the Soviets would invoke unrelated American sins to answer for brutal policy enforced from Moscow. Whataboutism memos line the State Department’s archive from that era, including perhaps the most famous—and accurate—rejoiner from Russian diplomats: “But you lynch Negroes.” To this day, Putin deploys his own variations to argue his country’s conduct is on the level with Washington’s.

Rhetorically, it’s tough to arrive at an honest answer because the whataboutism redirects that conversation away from substance and toward flair. With a limited knowledge of the facts and applicable laws, there’s no real way to determine the criminality of someone like Trump or Hunter Biden, neither of whom have been charged. Meanwhile, Clinton was cleared by some of her toughest critics, so invoking her is a Pavlovian trigger for conservatives intended to spike their blood pressure. The Whataboutists don’t much care about the real answer. They’re just trying to misdirect.

Which may end up working. The facts as they’re understood so far spell potential trouble for Trump. If he did abscond with classified material in his last days in the White House, that’s pretty clearly against the law. As President, he could declassify anything at any time, so it could be argued that he was protected, but he lost those powers at noon on Jan. 20, 2021. And, even though he’s all but ready to launch a 2024 comeback, he still is not above the law.

That’s why Republicans’ fealty to his line of victimhood and claims of persecution is as ill-considered as it is inconsistent. A feature at every Trump rally for years has been the chant of “lock her up” over Clinton’s email system, which was in keeping with her predecessors’ practices and State Department rules. Suddenly, that profession of law and order’s supremacy is a forgotten footnote, a reminder of just how short a GOP memory can be when new facts render older ones inconvenient.

  2. To state the obvious: the raid is a stitch-up!
Notwithstanding the prolix intellectual gymnastics by “Koolaid” above, even prominent Democrats are saying so. Because it’s now crystal clear that the people who claim to be “saving democracy” are the ones intent on systematically destroying it.
I should add, though, that watching Koolaid “go intellectual” is some relief from the usual crude bluster we get from this entity. It just goes to show that “Koolaid” is a creature of many tentacles!

  3. Right-wingers like Roger Simon and Arthur.c are hypocrites. They want to criticize left-wing movements like BLM and Antifa for not appreciating the laws and systems we have here and working to weaken them, but when the political winds make it necessary they start trashing those same systems themselves. Ignorance and hypocrisy of the first order.

  4. Our resident troll Koolaid (that’s the commenter masquerading as “Arthur.c Is A Big Dummy” above) possesses the logic of a constipated hyena.

First, BLM and Antifa are not mentioned on this page. Nor are they mentioned in the previous article on this subject (https://www.newenglishreview.org/an-assault-on-the-rule-of-law/#comment-13620) to which Koolaid appended a comment identical to this one save for “Roger Simon” being replaced by “Conrad”.

Second, conservative criticism around the activities of BLM, Antifa, and thugs who go around threatening SCOTUS justices or attacking churches and state senate buildings has always focused on law enforcement management (i.e. prosecutors and above) and their lack of support for the ordinary cop on the beat & their refusal to prosecute. And this criticism has been muted because most of the corporate media simply ignored crimes frequently committed in full view of the public, or misreported them, such as the “mostly peaceful” arson in Kenosha in 2020.

Third, none of this bluster about ignorance & hypocrisy has anything to do with the raid by 30 agents wielding weapons on the home of a recent former president to retrieve what could have been obtained with a simple knock on the door. And all this done when the individual concerned was not even home.

Why not arrive when Trump was home? They could still have arrived unannounced, still brought their guns, and tipped off a television crew as they did with Roger Stone. It would certainly have made for better theater. Makes you think doesn’t it? Or was the FBI actually afraid that Trump might shoot back when he answered the door?

    1. Regarding BLM and Antifa, the point I was making is that when those political forces decry our country as being more corrupt and repressive than all the totalitarian nations of the world put together true-blue patriots like yourself are usually hot in the defense of our government and institutions and quick to decry those people for not appreciating what they have in this country.

But now because it’s necessary for you to maintain a fantasy, you want convince us we live in some repressive police state where laws don’t exist and the people in power do what they want. To which I say, kindly get lost.

If you want a response from me in the future you’re going to have to keep it to two paragraphs or less. I can only handle so much stupidity.

      1. My apologies Koolaid. All of us understand you struggle with your reading, logic and words generally. And that facts are a foreign concept to you. It’s a common problem with conspiracy theorists. You remind one of those conspiracy theorists who believe Trump is a “Russian asset”. Now where did that story ever originate?

      2. P.S. Congratulations, too, for coming clean and reverting to your “Koolaid” identity on this one. Operating under multiple pseudonyms is really only something done by people with an attention-seeking disorder. Or professional trolls employed by a particular type of government agency.
