Friends were in attendance at the Royal Courts of Justice today to support Sergeant Alex Blackman, aka Marine A in his application to be released on bail pending a fresh appeal. His family would love to have him home for Christmas.
They tell me that the aplication has been adjourned for a week until Friday 23rd December. Why I don’t know; according to the Plymouth Herlad the Judges will not have what was discussed at today’s hearing reported “in the interests of justice”
The 23rd is the last working day of the courts and one notorious for the many applications for bail every court with jurisdiction will deal with.
The Royal Marines are based at the ancient naval port of Plymouth in Devon. THe local newspaper the Plymouth Herald had a reporter at the RCJ
Lord John Burnett, a former Royal Marine and former MP for South Devon, has campaigned for Sgt Blackman to be released.
He said: “This will be a bitter disappointment to Sergeant Alexander Blackman and his loyal and courageous wife Claire. It will also be a bitter disappointment to the millions of people in this country who have supported them.
“I am amazed that the prosecution were seeking to oppose this bail application given the compelling findings of the Criminal Cases Review Commission.” The Crown Prosecution Service have their own agenda.
