OUCH! Comrades in Arms

American troops arrive in Great Britain

by Reg Green

June 6, re-living the Allied landings in France, has brought back a flood of memories of being a young teenager in Britain in World War II. Although allies, there was still plenty of friction between young Britons and GI’s, in competition for the same pool of girls. In the war of words the home team appeared to have scored the winning goal with their three objections to their rivals: “They’re overpaid, over-sexed and over here.”

It was only a few years ago that I discovered the Yanks had evened the score, describing their British counterparts as “Under-paid, under-sexed and under Eisenhower.”
