Palmyra’s Arch of Triumph: the making of a London replica

A copy of the Triumphal Arch of Palmyra, destroyed by ISIS last year has been made using 3D technology. It isn’t full size but it is still pretty big (that’s a scientific term for two thirds scale) and the intention is to display it in major cities around the world for educational purposes, then to take it to Palmyra to stand some distance from the site of the original.

It was erected in London’s Trafalgar Square yesterday and my husband went to have a look today and took this photograph.

The Guardian has a video about how and why it was made here.
