Somebody Please Tape Trump’s Mouth Shut
By Armando Simón
I have been a strong supporter of Donald Trump ever since 2015 when he announced his bid to the presidency. Ever since then, I have fiercely supported, promoted, and defended him, principally through writing in various venues. I also know and agree with his economic and political policies, which have infuriated the corrupt elites and the totalitarian, psychotic leftists, but which have yielded great benefits for Americans. I have been very impressed with his achievements and I was filled with admiration at his defiance upon being almost assassinated. I have donated to his campaign.
And I have nothing but loathing for the Communist-Democrats trying so hard to destroy the country and for the do-nothing, mouthbreathing Republican politicians.
Having said that, I wish someone in his staff would tape his big mouth shut.
It started right at the beginning in 2015 when he made illegal immigration as his main target, saying that the Mexicans coming over were murderers and rapists. The way it came out, it sounded that all Mexicans were murderers and rapists. Then he had a silly picture of himself grinning while eating a taco salad. Throughout his campaign, he would occasionally write tweets or make off the cuff remarks that were impulsive and at times self-harming over the most idiotic things. This continued through his first year of his presidency until his staff and/or family got him to stop. As Joe Rogan told Trump to his face during an interview in 2024, “You used to say some crazy shit!”
Trump is not a career politician (another reason why the elites hate him), so he has not gone through the intense training politicians have gone through of being very, very, very careful of what they say about anything. Instead, he is an exuberant speaker who loves being in the spotlight and has achieved many great things (including and aside from politics) and he is known to say whatever is on his mind, which most of the times is what the people think, and love him for it. He holds daily press conferences, answering questions something which most politicians are wary of doing (remember Biden’s Administration).
But, again, sometimes what pops into his head and instantly comes out “is some crazy shit.”
Senator Kennedy nailed it when he recently said of President Trump, “He grows anxious when he has an unexpressed thought. And it’s all unfiltered. Now, some people like this, and some people don’t.”
This time around, some of what he has said has done some real damage. Serious damage. Really serious damage.
The worst has been in regard to Canada. Most Canadians could understand that reciprocal tariffs were due to Canadian tariffs on American goods, even if they did not like it. But referring to Canada as our 51st state—constantly—had a visceral reaction with them. Directly as a result of his taunting, Canadians have become hostile towards us.
Canadians’ self-identity has always been problematic, but they all could always agree on “We’re not Americans.” As odd as it sounds, that has always been the core of their self-identity. Furthermore, twice before (during the War of Independence and the War of 1812) America invaded Canada, only to retreat twice with a bloody nose. For which Canadians are proud of.
And his blunders could not have come at a worse time. Justin Trudeau was held in well-deserved contempt by the majority of Canadians. In the coming election, the Liberal Party was certain to be removed from power and their destructive socialist policies dismantled. Instead, the Liberal Party retained power with the new prime minister hostile to the US. So thanks to Trump’s big mouth, we ended up with a hostile neighbor instead of a trusted ally. And just as bad, Canada has continued its downward spiral.
Almost as damaging was his off the cuff remark that NATO countries have not helped America in the past, which was true except for the UK. The British felt understandably insulted (Trump later corrected himself, but the damage was done).
Or that the use of force for acquiring Greenland was on the table.
And some of his antics have just been infantile, having no real benefit but needlessly irritating other countries. Like saying the Gulf of Mexico should be renamed the Gulf of America. Or displaying a map of the US, Canada and Greenland all covered with the American flag. Or renaming the Kennedy Center after himself.
Mind you, everyone without exception, has flaws. And he has done and is doing great things for the country. But, somebody in the White House needs to step up again and tape his mouth shut.
