Suspects named after police investigation into historic child sex abuse in Bury

Three men are facing charges after a major investigation into child sex offences, police said on Monday.

Together, they have been charged with a total of 46 offences, with all three due to appear in court for the first time on Wednesday, Greater Manchester Police said.

“The men, who are all British Pakistani, are accused of offences committed between 1996 and 2001 against 10 girls who were aged between 14 and 16 when the alleged offences took place.”

Ashfaq Khan, 46, from Bury, has been charged with 36 counts of rape of a female under the age of 16; the attempted rape of a female under the age of 16; indecent assault and false imprisonment.

Zaheer Iqbal, 52, from Accrington, has been charged with four counts of rape of a female under the age of 16 and two counts of false imprisonment.

Qamar Jehangeer, 44, from Bolton, has been charged with four counts of rape of a female under the age of 16.
