To the modern mind the Middle Ages stand for all that is most backward, reactionary and superstitious. The very word medieval is used as a term of abuse by people who thereby seek to gain a moment of cheap superiority. This commonplace misconception of a distant epoch in man’s upward striving towards civilization is a graver indictment of the modern mind than it is of the civilization of the Middle Ages.  more>>>
