UTMB fires nurse over viral video
From the Houston Chronicle
The University of Texas Medical Branch has fired an employee after investigating a viral video she made that wasdecried by Libs of TikTok and other right-wing social media accounts.
In a post on X, the hospital system said they had “learned of social media posts made by a contract employee” on Thursday afternoon and terminated her contract that evening.
The video clip still circulating on social media shows someone who appears to be a
nurse backing out of a doorway, superimposed with the words “when I walk into my patient’s room and Fox news is blasting.” In the background, Whitney Houston sings “we both know I’m not what you need,” a line from her famous song “I Will Always Love You.”
While the account for “Nurse Ahlam” is now set to private, eight seconds of her video were reposted to Libs of TikTok’s account on X, where they received hundreds of thousands of views.
“Muslim nurse who appears to work at @utmbhealth in Houston, Texas, posted a video appearing to show that she wouldn’t treat a patient if they watch Fox News. Any comment on a nurse discriminating against patients for political views @utmbhealth?” the account authors posted.
The owner of the original account, @nurse.ahlam.rn, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
