Not Everything in New York is Poetry

by Kirby Olson (September 2020)

With the Smoke of Fires, Edward Okun, 1916

“…little Eichmanns…”

The World Trade Center;

hit that day with two airliners,

smokes its inhabitants like a cigarette,

illuminating

          the jumpers

          who had no time for lunch,

and who slipped off the side

                                      into the breach,

where no net could possibly save them.
