Emperor Carney’s synagogue charade exposed

Posted by Geoffrey Clarfield

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney turned up yesterday for a closed event at the Synagogue down the road (literally) from the house and neighbourhood in Toronto where I grew up.

He decried the explosive anti Semitism which is sweeping Canada and which has been facilitated by him and his policies.

He announced the creation of a government committee to fight anti Semitism. Which includes a prominent Muslim supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood and enemies of Israel. He ensured that NO conservative journalists were allowed to cover the event. And now I feel SO much safer knowing that supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood will be fighting anti-Semitism in Canada. Isn’t that great.

Emperor Mark Carney made a cameo appearance Monday at a Liberal synagogue purportedly to announce measures to combat the rising tide of virulent anti-Semitism in Canada.

His appearance at Holy Blossom temple — chock full of moneyed Liberal donors (in other words, a friendly crowd) — had all the hallmarks of Vintage Carney.

Conservative media, particularly Jewish journalists (me), were informed they were “not on the list.”

My colleague Melanie Bennet and I had RSVPed, but as is the typical cat-and-mouse game played by Carney and Co., they don’t reply and when you turn up, they say you are “not on the list.”

Considering I have written non-stop about anti-Semitism and I am Jewish — and that the invite indicated it was open to all media — I got the hint before his entourage had even arrived that this was all simply performative, only reaffirmed when the Beta-male bouncer greeted reporters from the anti-Semitic Globe and Mail and the CBC with open arms.

I guess only government-approved media are entitled to hear the Emperor.

In fact, when I listened to his speech, he spoke like the true narcissist he is, as if someone (who I don’t know) was responsible for the state Canadian Jews find themselves in — but certainly not him.

It was all so tightly scripted, I knew that Carney was merely going through the motions — right down to inviting select Jews (Liberals) to a small space within Holy Blossom, only holding about 200 people. That way, his handlers and the associated bouncers could say the space was extremely tight.

He arrived 30 minutes late with an entourage of at least six gas-guzzling SUVs protected by a good 70 Toronto police officers and of course evading the media who might ask him hard questions

I remarked to my colleagues, also banned from the event, that there were more officers protecting Carney than those who protect my community in Toronto.

But the speech.

It was a whole lot of nothing.

He lapsed into French five times, obviously not reading the room.

For the first 10 minutes, he spewed elitist Davos-gibberish to show how smart he really is, using phrases like “civic compact” and “Canada’s covenant.”

Elitist talk we don’t need. We don’t need more studies and research. We need action.

But what he offered was thin gruel indeed.

He announced a new ministerial advisory council on anti-Semitism with at least two anti-Semites on it — one being Omar Alghabra, the creepy former transport minister and now special envoy to Syria and the other being activist lawyer Avnish Nanda.

That alleged council on antisemitism will be chaired by Marc Miller, minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, who let in all the damn Gazans who hate us.

Is this a cruel joke?

But, for heaven’s sake, instead of a ridiculous advisory council, why not simply enforce the laws as if Muslims or black people were being harassed, not Jews?

Let’s start with admitting the contribution his government and other politicians have made to the cesspool of Jew hatred.

Taking a page from the president he hates — Donald Trump — he could have threatened to withdraw funding from organizations that spew Jew hatred (like the NCCM). Or called on his provincial counterparts to withhold funding to colleges and universities that allow Jew hatred on campus.

Or called out Hamas for 10/7 and all the atrocities since.

Or close the borders to those who don’t accept Canadian values. (Oops, I forgot Muslim values are Canadian values).

Or offered to take his first visit to Israel and mend fences with PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

Or called for zero tolerance for protesters who hang Jewish leaders in effigy (as they did in Montreal) and parade through Jewish neighbourhoods (as they do in Toronto). In other words, enforce the damn hate laws that already exist.

It was such an absurd farce— such a monumental exercise in gaslighting — I’d laugh if I didn’t want to cry.

This from Unapologetically Jewish’s Matthew Taub must be watched to explain how real Jews are feeling, not liberal Jews who sat in that Holy Blossom room Monday waiting for a few crumbs:

  1. Carney has raised ‘putting on a nice speech then doing nothing’ to an art form. He can talk your leg off without letting you know what his plan is, or even if he has a plan. You can get away with that for a long time before people catch on.
