I said I’d be looking through some old photographs as my scope for visiting is a bit limited in SE England at the moment. This is from a visit to Chester in 2014. We went to see the Winterwatch parade which is a revival of an ancient festival when the keys of the city were handed to The City Watch for safekeeping, with even older elements of Saturnalia and mid-winter revels, and a bit (rather a lot from where I stood) of modern punk and goth thrown in. Good fun it was. At the same time in the Cathedral there was a Christmas tree festival and the refectory was decorated as Narnia.
Forever winter ~ Never Christmas, which we know is not true, no matter how bleak things might look. There will always be Christmas, and as the days lengthen, whatever one’s faith or belief, there will be spring.
