America’s Left Is In Its Jacobin Period

By Roger L Simon

You can see it everywhere. Fear on the part of the left that they have lost the argument, and it is causing them to act out with dangerous implications and violent results.

It’s not a long walk—in fact, it’s a remarkably short one—from the assassination of Charlie Kirk by the clearly unstable (to put mildly) Tyler Robinson to the also clearly unstable, possibly Antifa, Joshua John, who was taking pot shots at ICE in Dallas, Sep 24, leaving two dead.

There have been numerous other very recent displays of left-wing blood lust—the murder of two Israeli embassy staffers in Washington, D.C. (March 2025); the murder of Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, with the shooting of Sen. John Hoffman and his wife (June 2025); the murder of the United Healthcare CEO (July 2025); Arson attacks on GOP offices and Tesla dealerships in multiple states, apparently orchestrated by Antifa (Aug 2025) and the two horribly violent crimes mentioned above this September that isn’t over yet.

And that’s only in the last few months and doesn’t even include all the violent activities associated with the George Floyd affair, BLM riots, and so forth.

I think it can be said we are well into our Jacobin period, our own Reign of Terror from the end of the French Revolution, though it might be a tiny bit reassuring that in those days the numbers were much worse. An estimated 17,000 died from the guillotine. Who knows if that is accurate (it’s from Grok), but you get the picture.

Nevertheless, it’s bad now. And there’s little reason to believe it’s going to get better in the near future because of the aforementioned emptiness of liberal/progressiveism and the consequent acting out.

Making matters worse, the Democrats are in disarray, as illustrated by Kamala Harris’s random accusations during her goofy book tour.

Filling this confused vacuum, the far left, personified at this moment by Zohran Mamdai, has taken over the Democratic Party. But Mamdani is taking it over at the very moment that the country at large has roundly rejected the programs he claims to believe in. Woke is no more, and socialism never was. Anger on the left emerges from this. Someone has to pay for it. Sometimes they will eat their own, but mostly it will be us.

This adds up to an unpleasant cocktail that we will all be imbibing, especially with one of their aging leaders assuring her dwindling fans that it is all our fault. (“Hillary Clinton says Americans need to ‘stop demonizing each other,’ then criticizes Republicans.

Donald Trump has done a great deal to mitigate the situation by closing the border and empowering law enforcement to expel as many dangerous illegals as possible.

Still, more than ever, it is up to us to keep our eyes wide open for the sake of our families and ourselves. If you see something, say something is more meaningful than ever.

If you think this is all overstated and we are far from the old French Revolution situation, consider the following. Rasmussen took a poll shortly after the assassination using the following statement: “Charlie Kirk was speaking hateful words and his murder was tragic but understandable.”

54% of Liberals agreed with this inhumane statement, as did 40% of Democrats.

On a happier note… I guess… Rasmussen at least reported that 62% agreed that “Charlie Kirk was peacefully and respectfully debating people, and it is a tragedy that he was murdered.”

On the other hand, Rasmussen also reported: “85% Expect More Political Violence After Assassination of Charlie Kirk.”

I know—who believes polls, etc.? But I have to admit this one spooks me.

Maybe it’s time to revise “The Godfather,” once the fount of all wisdom: Yes, keep your friends close… but when you’re around your enemies, wear a bullet-proof vest.

But while you’re doing it, talk calmly to these people, if you can, about your belief in God.
