Anti-lockdown, pro-free speech but does Laurence Fox actually have the credentials to be London Mayor?

I promised you the video made by The Telegraph of Laurence Fox on campaign in and around Romford and elsewhere in Greater London 13 days ago. here it is – by Christopher Hope, Chief Political Correspondent.

As London prepares to go to the polls to elect their new London mayor, The Telegraph’s Chief Political Correspondent Christoper Hope joined Laurence Fox on the campaign trail to see what he stands for and whether he has a chance of being elected.

  1. The sad fact is Esmeralda, that you don’t have to be qualified at anything other than public speaking to become Mayor (or to be elected to any position under the democratic system). There’s no requirement to be smart, to be educated or to have moral values. If you can fool the people with your oratory… you’re in.
    So many I have met who are absolute trainwrecks in their personal lives, dumb as a post, and yet mesmerizing when they get up and speak.
    Off the podium you wouldn’t put them in charge of a lemonade stand. It’s democracy’s Achilles Heel but so far no one’s found anything better

  2. becoming a politician is the most singular profession in world history in which no previous (good) experience or training is necessary or required … one could be a bartender one day, and the next be passing laws that affect millions …come to think of it, in terms of credential, having been a bartender makes one better qualified than having been a lawyer
