Summer Love

by Dilip Mohapatra (September 2014)

Short somnolent night

hangs precariously by a fragile thread

that may snap any time

and be blown away by a diffident Loo

or be swept away by the torrential breaths through the ravines and slopes riding the ripples of sweat and sighs towards the eventual estuary where the saline tongue of the sea will lap it up and suck it to oblivion.

This night tasting an indifferent summer will be lost in the Milky Way leading to an infinite galaxy of stars and evaporate under the eye lashes of a sweltering dawn while the panting of tired torsos slowly will attenuate to a decadent rhythm the silver oak trees will stand still their outlines becoming sharper and sharper.

and a rooster will crow and give the wake up call.
