Adam Smith (1723-90) is memorable for things he was not. He wasn’t an economist; he was a moral philosopher. He wasn’t a decadent capitalist; he was primarily an underpaid pedagogue. He was not a bon vivant either, as if such things were possible in Protestant Scotland.  more>>>

  1. Fantastic panegyric to the Scottish Enlightenment. Ps Barely anyone in Scotland honours those sages now. The whining victim cult of Celtic Socialism has other other icons to worship. If you want to go even lower cross it with a voyeuristic sympathy for irish republicanism and you get a monstrosity and you get George Galloway. Some fall. Nice piece from the bronx hibernian

  2. Salute, Fergus. Merry Christmas and and a joyous New Year too. Don’t know what happened to the Celtic races since the potato famine. Hijacked by the dole, methinks. Take heart in this regard. Ireland and America makes Scotland look like an entrepreneurial destination resort these days. Cheers.
