Three individuals were arrested in Azerbaijan on Tuesday on suspicion of planning an attack on the Israeli embassy in the capital Baku at the instructions of Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K), the Afghan offshoot of the Islamic State terror group, the Times of Israel learned.
Authorities in Azerbaijan confirmed the arrests, but did not specify which foreign embassy the would-be-attackers were planning to target.
In a statement, the State Security Service said the three men, whom it named, had conspired with members of ISIS-K, obtained weapons and planned to attack a foreign embassy before they were apprehended by security forces.

During the operational-investigative measures carried out by the State Security Service, suspicions arose that Azerbaijani citizens – Ilgar Guliyev (born in 2000, known by the religious alias “Abu Zar al-Muhajir”), Amin Piriyev (born in 2005, alias “Abdurashid”), and Elvin Alizada (born in 2005, alias “Abdurrahman al-Azeri”) – were preparing to commit a terrorist attack against an embassy in Baku on the grounds of religious hostility, The Caspian Post reports, citing local media.

As a result, Guliyev, Piriyev, and Alizada have been charged under Articles 28, 214.2.1, 28, 214.2.3, and 28, 214.2.6 of the Criminal Code (preparation of terrorism by a group acting in collusion, using items as weapons, and motivated by religious hostility). By court decision, they have been placed under pre-trial detention.
