Brussels Airport Explosions Were Suicide Bombings

The Local:

At least 13 people have been killed and dozens injured in two suicide bombings at Brussels international airport on Tuesday morning and there are reports of ten dead in a separate blast on the city’s Metro system.

The Belgian capital Brussels, was hit by a series of deadly terrorist attacks on Tuesday morning, just over four months since the devastating assault on Paris by jihadists.

Brussels airport was hit by two explosions shortly after 8am, then at around 9.20am there were reports of explosions at at least one Metro station in the city.

At least 13 people were killed in the airport blasts according to the latest reports and 35 left injured. The latest reports claimed there were 10 fatalities caused by the explosion at Maalbeek Metro station.

The Belgian prosecutor later confirmed that the airport explosions were suicide bombings, confirming the fears that the capital had been targeted by terrorists.

The blasts come just days after the arrest in the city of Salah Absdeslam – the chief suspect from the Paris terror attacks who had been on the run for four months.

Witnesses spoke of panic in the streets as survivors stumbled out of Maalbeek Metro station covered in blood and suffering burns.

The source of the explosions has not been confirmed but it appears likely the Belgium capital has been targeted by a coordinated terror attack.
