From the Derby Telegraph
Derbyshire police say Counter Terrorism officers are supporting the investigation into a 36-year-old man arrested after several people were injured in the Derby city centre.
Seven people were seriously hurt when they were hit by a black Suzuki Swift in Friar Gate at about 9.30pm on Saturday, March 28.
They were taken to either Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, or to the Royal Derby Hospital for treatment.
A 36-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder, causing serious injury through dangerous driving and inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Police say that he is originally from India but has lived in the UK for several years. The Home Officer declined to comment on his immigration status when asked.
Derbyshire detectives are currently leading the investigation with the support of Counter Terrorism Policing Colleagues; however, the force says this does not confirm that the incident is terror-related.
A witness described the scene as “absolute carnage”, saying numerous people were lying in the road and across the pavement, covered in blood. “It was utterly horrific,”

A staff member at a restaurant on the street said the black Suzuki swerved into two people on the pavement before appearing to target another victim. The two pedestrians “were just walking normally” outside Bar Eleven on Friar Gate when the car mounted the pavement and swerved into them from behind, the unnamed worker said. CCTV footage from his restaurant showed one person being knocked into the road as the other fell on to the pavement.
